Private Rental costs around the country

We have lived in private rentals for 25 as we have never managed to purchase.

The cost of rentals in our town absolutely beggars belief! I live in a town that is badly in need of redevelopment.

Using rightmove…. Tell me the nearest town to where you life and the cost to rent a mid quality 3 bedroom family house. (No fancy houses)

I am genuinely intrigued as to what the variance will be.

Also tell me if your town or city is a tourist area or dormitory town for a large city.

West London (non touristy) £3300 for a very basic/old 3 bed terrace

IReallyLikeYouButIWantToSeeHowThingsGoWithMark · 30/09/2023 10:44

I live in London and the house next door to us (identical terrace) with 3 bedrooms was recently rented out at £3700 a month.

Enko · 30/09/2023 10:45

About £1750-2000 depending on how posh the area you want. I'm west Kent

ivegotthisyeah · 30/09/2023 10:48

North Yorkshire good train links to cities 3 bed semi nice area £900 which I still think is a lot!

randomrandom · 30/09/2023 10:48

Marlow (Buckinghamshire) £2,800pcm

Caszekey · 30/09/2023 10:49

Walsall, town in the Black Country. Has its posh side and it's rough side but currently available they probably even put at about £1100.

I'm in a 3 bed rental paying £600. Landlord put rent up once in 11 years which brought us up from £525 which in 2012 was expensive for here. Now we're several hundred below the market rent. And this is why we haven't moved and we try to be low hassle tenants. I honestly don't know how we'd afford to double our rent overnight if we moved.

BreadandButters · 30/09/2023 10:50

Approx £2000pcm for 3 bed mid terrace house. Home Counties commuter town with direct link to London.

randomrandom · 30/09/2023 10:51

That was average, cheapest is £1,995, most expensive is £3,000 (both terraced)

Hummusanddipdip · 30/09/2023 10:51

Peterborough - £1300 commuter belt (so dormitory for London?) city

gamerchick · 30/09/2023 10:52

North east. But houses are pretty cheap to buy here mostly.

I’m rural. The two closest towns to me have no properties to rent. The third has one terrace on at £1250 pmwhich looking at some of the replies is cheap.

randomrandom · 30/09/2023 11:02

I've nearly just fallen off my chair, as someone has put a bog standard 3 bed terrace on in a shitty town near me for £4,200! Total chancers that must be having a laugh (everything similar is 1,600-2,000 range) I'm so disgusted

Quisto · 30/09/2023 11:16

Only 1 in my small SW town. £1000 for 3 bed terrace, asking for nearly £1500 deposit.

VerityUnreasonble · 30/09/2023 11:18

Small city in West Yorkshire, easy commute to 2-3 larger cities. Not really touristy. Close to lots of green spaces though.

The average is about £1200.

HobnobsChoice · 30/09/2023 11:22

Not where I live now but where I used to.
M18 Gorton Manchester 1200 for a 3 bed semi (interwar type or ex council)
M20 Didsbury/Withington £1300 to 1400 for a ex council semi.

Market town in West Yorkshire border- no semis to rent but you can either have a 3 bed terrace (built approx 1890) for £900 Commuters to Leeds and MCR and lots of people who moved out of those cities for a quieter more rural life

Oopsupsideyourheadache · 30/09/2023 11:23

Burgess hill (down south near Brighton) £2000 on average

Movinghouseatlast · 30/09/2023 11:29

Epsom, commuter town close to London (35 mins on train) is around £1800 for a 3 bed house. It can go higher for a top area or high spec house.

Obviously it's shockingly high but our 2 bed rental has seen the mortgage triple recently. With all the expenses ( insurance, repairs, tax) we are looking at only just breaking even, which with the risks associated with it isn't a good place to be.

Ypsilanti · 30/09/2023 11:29

Average of £2.5k pcm for not very nice 3 bed mid-terraces (£2.3k is cheapest) in a deeply, deeply unfashionable part of East London (z3/4 borders). It’s outrageous.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 30/09/2023 11:32

£1100 for an average 3 bed semi.
Norfolk coastal area.

Tumbleweed101 · 30/09/2023 12:27

Bury St Edmunds £1200+ for a 3 bed.

My very first private rental - 2 bed in a nearby village was £320 a month in 1997.

Seeingadistance · 30/09/2023 13:11

Growing town with rail link to Glasgow. Only one 3-bed house to rent just now. New build, detached, 3 lavvies - £1,500. Other option is a 3 bed flat with not outdoor space at all, one bathroom - £575.

liveforsummer · 30/09/2023 13:17

Edinburgh. You won't find many houses to rent til you hit the outskirts but a quick look at rightmove suggests you'll pay between 2-3k for an ok flat depending on area and more for a nice one

margotmargeaux · 30/09/2023 13:20

Cornwall 1395 inland - 2000 and above closer to the coast

cherryassam · 30/09/2023 13:20

NW commuter town 850-950

RampantIvy · 30/09/2023 13:21

Barnsley + 3 mile radius. Cheapest is £600 pcm. Most expensive is £1000 pcm.
