Private Rental costs around the country

Floopyfloop · 30/09/2023 08:32

We have lived in private rentals for 25 as we have never managed to purchase.

The cost of rentals in our town absolutely beggars belief! I live in a town that is badly in need of redevelopment.

Using rightmove…. Tell me the nearest town to where you life and the cost to rent a mid quality 3 bedroom family house. (No fancy houses)

I am genuinely intrigued as to what the variance will be.

Also tell me if your town or city is a tourist area or dormitory town for a large city.

around £2000 pcm. Town in Kent, 35 miles from central London.

AlohaRose · 30/09/2023 09:35

South West, tourist area but not actually on the coast, very little to rent but the 3 beds I can find are between £1250 and £2000! The £2k one is detached and has a large garden but otherwise isn't anything fancy. The others are very ordinary looking.

cocksstrideintheevening · 30/09/2023 09:36

SE London zone 4/5 border.

There are two houses for rent with 3 beds within 2 miles of me.

£2,150 ex council semi in a rough area although looks nice enough inside

£3,250 Victorian terrace, nice enough area but right on the main road through the town.

That's been a bit of an eye opener.

littleegghead · 30/09/2023 09:37

Non-touristy Cornwall, only 2 available within 5 miles for £1000 and £1400. Both terraces in one of the most deprived places in Europe.

sjj28358 · 30/09/2023 09:46

About £2400/month for a 3 bed semi / terrace in London suburbs (zone 5).

AuntyPanda · 30/09/2023 09:50

I am not going to shame an area mentioned on here but I only live about 10 miles from it and it is rough as anything so if houses cost that much to rent there it shows just how fucked the rental market is.

Where I live it’s 1200 upwards PCM for a 3 bed.

AlltheFs · 30/09/2023 09:51

£1000-£1200 depending if it is new build or old terraced. Rural market down, area slightly touristy but not hugely. Affluent, rural East Mids.

SausageAndEggSandwich · 30/09/2023 09:54

There's only 4 for rent in the whole town, mid price is £1500.

Coastal town in the south west.

Thebigblueballoon · 30/09/2023 09:56

£1500-£1600 for a mid-market three bed house. 😬

Town in East Lothian.

sleepyscientist · 30/09/2023 09:56

Semi-rural north east (near Newcastle) good area £650 a month, not so good area £375. Newcastle itself £700-800 for somewhere you would actually want to live. Shocking considering the house you can rent for £650 can be bought for £120k.

Ilovegoldies · 30/09/2023 09:57

Cardiff. Between 1200 and 1400 for a 3 bed. I've been paying 820 and have just bought a house in the Rhondda valley. I am very fortunate to have been able to do this and it was the rising rents that gave me the kick up the arse as I cannot afford a rent increase.

hauntedvagina · 30/09/2023 09:58

Town south of Birmingham, circa £1700 for a semi. £2400 if you want detached.

FatCatatPaddingtonStation · 30/09/2023 09:58

Ranges from 900 (area considered deprived) to 1500 (leafy suburbia but very ordinary house). South Wales.

SquashPenguin · 30/09/2023 10:00

£750 for a 3bed terrace in Merthyr Tydfil.

FatCatatPaddingtonStation · 30/09/2023 10:02

Just looked in Bristol and the range is from 1250 (again in a deprived area) to 6,900 for a three bedroom townhouse! Mind blown! When I lived in Bristol you could rent a three bed house in St Werburghs for 300 pm. I’m not that old! Grin

oldandunderpaid · 30/09/2023 10:04

£1200 3 bed detached

KievLoverTwo · 30/09/2023 10:05

NW, not touristy, £1300

1 property within 1 mile, 5 within 3 (ranging from 700 to 3400)

Babyroobs · 30/09/2023 10:07

East midlands. Around £900 - £1k

BlackCatsAreBrilliant · 30/09/2023 10:07

Industrial town in the Midlands (neither touristy not dormitory) you can get something reasonable for £900-1000pcm.

OldTinHat · 30/09/2023 10:16

£1300 is the lowest near me on rightmove. Tourist area in the south east.

piglet81 · 30/09/2023 10:20

Zone 3 south-east London and a 3-bed house near us is £2,600-3,200 to rent depending on the street. It’s disgusting really.

MariePaperRoses · 30/09/2023 10:25

None where I live so I expanded the search to three miles.

Highest price is £2,400 in a nice area.
Lowest price is £840 in an awful area.

StanleyGoodspeed · 30/09/2023 10:32

NW

about £800 if you want a semi with garden
about £550 for a terraced

thinkfast · 30/09/2023 10:41

Zone 3 north london. There are no 3 bed house rentals in my area on Rightmove. There is a 4 bed house available a mile away for 3,500 per month.

Babyroobs · 30/09/2023 10:43

caringcarer · 30/09/2023 09:10

In Tamworth and surrounding villages very few houses to rent. Some weeks nothing at all.

How much do you rent your ten BTL's for ?
