I wonder if the awnings thing is something they got during pandemic so they could do outdoor entertaining without worrying about the weather ? Like the marquees that a lot of pubs had.

Dizzywizz · 15/05/2023 21:21

I think they’re celebs and the awning is for privacy.

megletthesecond · 15/05/2023 22:43

Can they claim it has off street parking without a dropped kerb?

ArdeteiMasazxu · 15/05/2023 23:15

You are quite right @megletthesecond it's incorrect and misleading to call that paved area of street parking and illegal to use it as such.

But the vendors are also those odd types who object to their home being visible on Google Street View so along with the dubious taste shown by the weird awnings and the shocking kitchen cabinets I think they would be a bit of a nightmare to deal with, and would back away slowly.

The blurred houses thing, none of the nearby streets seem to have it (not looked very hard). Is it a builder thing when building new houses?

ArdeteiMasazxu · 15/05/2023 23:27

No it's mainly just paranoia, but the fact that one cul-de-sac has so many blurred out makes me think it would be a really unpleasant place to live. All the neighbours would be simultaneously suspicious and judgemental - and probably quite nosey too.

Or criminals.

My house is blurred on Google Street Map. We didn't request it.
There was a skip outside our house when the Google Car drove past and for whatever reason they have blanked it out with blur. Maybe the skip is a celebrity 😎

Sandrine1982 · 16/05/2023 03:45

That kitchen is VILE

Eddielizzard · 16/05/2023 06:58

Why is the estate agent kneeling on the ground to take all the photos? I guess to make everything look bigger, but jeez it's annoying

bookmarket · 16/05/2023 07:27

There probably is a driveway where the garage is. The garage is at the end of the garden.

ah yes you are quite right. Perfectly reasonable garage with off-street parking.
and actually I have reconsidered what I said about the blurring out - I still think that having quite that many blur-outs on one road is indicitive of an unpleasant neighbourhood vibe, but if my enormous pants had been drying outside in full view the day the google car passed by, I think I might have requested a blur-out too.

I was looking at the Google blur thing and apparently once it's done it can't be undone, so tbf to the owners, perhaps it predates them?

Anyway it's a bit of an odd service. Would it devalue your house if you blurred it and then moved? The new owners might want to have the house searchable for eg- especially if it's rural or hard to find.

What if you wanted to 'revenge blur' someone? (You don't have to prove you live there to submit a blur request).

You could go around blurring all the people who'd irritated you. (Not sure why you'd want to, but it seems quite satisfyingly petty.)
