Can’t get the link to paste from Rightmove but it’s up for £10 million and looks absolutely stunning

Really hope it gets him out of debt and he can move on with his life

I want to know why the house was granted planning permission in the first place. Where we live in the greenbelt a replacement dwelling can only be the same size as the existing.

Also the environmental impact of the dwelling must be horrendous given the amount of concrete and steel which went into its construction.

I think the problem is that so many people think they could have done things a whole lot differently to this guy. And of course a lot of the negativity is down to him having a bit of spending power when he set of on this journey.

How dare he have had a bit of money and how dare he have also had a dream.

It has nothing to do with begrudging him the money.
He put himself on TV. As a result, people will judge what he did with the house.
Don't want to be judged for a building project you do? Don't put it on a TV programme then.

I think it's completely natural to feel sad when someone else destroys something that you loved. The people who bought our old house ripped out the front garden my Dad planted for us and replaced it with hard landscaping. He died a year after he planted it so I had lots of memories associated with it and it was very sad to see it go. If you've lived in a house for a long time and have lots of happy memories associated with it then of course it's hard to see changes.

Although, interestingly, I grew up on a family farm and have seen several generations change and update the farmhouse and that feels different, probably because the people making the changes have grown up in the house and so know and love it and so the sense of continuity is there, e.g. I grew up knowing my room use to be my aunties bedroom just like my niece is growing up knowing it was mine and we all know the stories of the person who planted the tree outside and nobody would rip that out unless it became unsafe.

I think it doesn't show much empathy to say 'well, you don't own it anymore so you shouldn't care'.

Nice interior spaces, but it would be like living in a fishtank- no privacy at all. And so hot in the summer....

TwoMonthsOff · 31/08/2022 18:55

@Dnadoon

good update

Oblomov22 · 01/09/2022 07:16

I bet you that's not true. Just rumours.

ItsNotNormalLove · 01/09/2022 10:01

In the article the estate agents say it's not true.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 01/09/2022 11:19

Did anyone see last night's? I'm surprised there's not a thread about it. Some people are absolutely crazy.🙄

prettyteapotsplease · 01/09/2022 14:21

Yes, I love programmes about houses and last nights episode was pretty much par for the course - over-ambitious, too expensive and with unproven technology.

Sadly the modern taste these days is for houses to look the opposite of homely and cosy. I thought it looked more like a small shopping centre but each to their own.

I'm also astonished that the chap parted with so much money up-front - I'm not experienced in this type of thing but even I wouldn't do that.

@BigSandyBalls2015 @prettyteapotsplease
hi would you mind letting me know which episode that is please ? there are so many on the All4 search
I’ve had a notification of a new series starting too

TIA

prettyteapotsplease · 01/09/2022 19:22

@TwoMonthsOff It was episode one which was on last night on Channel 4 at 9pm. In the TV guide there were more details - curved glass home in Manchester, Colin and Adele, builders/materials from as far afield as Latvia, Sweden and Italy.

TwoMonthsOff · 01/09/2022 19:33

@prettyteapotsplease
thank you ! That’s the one that I got the notification for…new series
thanks so much for taking the time to reply
early night for me now to watch it 😊

TwoMonthsOff · 02/09/2022 19:19

@prettyteapotsplease
ive seen half of it, I’m feeling sorry for them at the moment 😌

prettyteapotsplease · 02/09/2022 20:32

@TwoMonthsOff He'd got himself into a bit of a fix, 'sunk costs' and all, I suppose the poor man felt he had to continue to the bitter end, at least he got a house out of it in the end.

TwoMonthsOff · 02/09/2022 20:37

@prettyteapotsplease
ah yes, when they play the chill out background music, pan the camera around lovingly and Kevin gets poetic….and all is well that ends well and then he gives a short bit of advice
I think GD is the best property show though ❤️
