Can’t get the link to paste from Rightmove but it’s up for £10 million and looks absolutely stunning

Really hope it gets him out of debt and he can move on with his life

I’m glad he’s finally finished it. It was such a tragic story - I had a lot of respect for his daughter who spoke to Kevin at the end of the show when it was all doom and gloom. The owner also admitted his own failures which you have to give him credit for.

The architect has a lot to answer for. It’s a recurring theme on the show that an architect with a huge ego finds a rich client to bankroll the architect’s whims for a project which is woefully under budgeted.

The house was designed to remain standing even when the cliff around it erodes away, so it shouldn’t fall into the sea! That was indeed the massive money pit, as they spent months drilling into the bedrock for the house’s foundations.

I wonder who will buy it!?

LadyVictoriaSponge · 21/07/2022 16:52

It will be the next Omaze house I bet.

TwoMonthsOff · 21/07/2022 16:53

@Rowen32
I saw this fairly recently on 4od and you’re right he owned that Trance record label ‘Euphoria’

Daftasabroom · 21/07/2022 17:07

@takeitandleaveit is well away from any cliff

lot123 · 21/07/2022 17:13

I confess that I quite like it but I'm a sucker for a sea-view. While the whole project was preposterous, I felt sorry for him given he ended up with nothing, money wise and personally.

Daftasabroom · 21/07/2022 17:14

@Longdistance it's nowhere near a cliff, there is no significant erosion, there was a house standing on the same site since the 30's.

LynneBenfield · 21/07/2022 17:17

Just a mess of a story. That guy was so blinkered. I wouldn’t buy it for love nor money, surely coastal erosion will see that house off within 50yrs. Is it even mortgageable?

Saucery · 21/07/2022 17:19

An apt name for it would be Short's Folly.

It reminds me of en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wray_Castle. James Dawson’s wife hated it and refused to ever live there, despite it being built with her money.

ForTheLoveOfSleep · 21/07/2022 12:59

As a local resident I would say to anyone who wants to live there be aware that the locals HATE it and the knob that built it. Therefore may not be welcoming to the new residents.

If I had the money, I'd buy it and turn it over to the community - it'd make a lovely restaurant, event venue or art gallery. I couldn't live in it myself and I remember the GD episode, it all seemed so unnecessary and over-blown (like many GDs, I suppose).

Then again, I've never really understood the 'need' some people have for massive houses when there's only a family of four (or sometimes even just a couple). I don't 'get' a lot about the trappings of an apparently 'luxury' lifestyle though, so things like big houses, supercars and expensive 'resort' holidays are a bit lost on me.

BemusedBrenda · 21/07/2022 17:42

I'm quite surprised so many people are saying they feel sorry for him or it was a tragic episode. I watched the original episode and the follow up they did with the guy and have been really fascinated ever since - but I think he totally had it coming. He was completely selfish, it was obviously a vanity project and he didn't really care about making a family home. No regard whatsoever for anyone else including the local community. He was so blasé about borrowing massive amounts of money from his friends too to make up the hole when costs inevitably and predictably spiralled. I was completely unsurprised his wife left him.

BemusedBrenda · 21/07/2022 17:43

Also to note, there aren't many photos on that listing and most of those are 3D renders. I suspect it's pretty unfinished inside.

ValerieDoonican · 21/07/2022 17:49

Tragic for his family I think, @BemusedBrenda .

Tragic for his family I think, @BemusedBrenda .

Oh, I agree with that...his poor daughters. Such a shame.

TwoMonthsOff · 21/07/2022 17:57

I remember the lovely apartment built in the cliff a few metres along from the main house site, he was living in it alone it was much cosier and very beautifully done I seem to remember they had used the cliff wall inside -it only shows the outside on the listing with the empty hot tub

TwoMonthsOff · 21/07/2022 17:59

@BemusedBrenda
ooh really so those interiors are like ‘artists impressions’ (showing my age!) they look very real.

Chillian · 21/07/2022 18:00

Sounds awful but surely it won’t be long until it’s washed into the sea? Sad

TwoMonthsOff · 21/07/2022 18:01

@BemusedBrenda
what sticks in my mind is the look on his wife’s face and the awkward silence from Kevin after he proclaimed ‘it’s every little boys dream to live in a lighthouse isn’t it ‘ ?

TwoMonthsOff · 21/07/2022 18:03

Is anyone going to rewatch this later ? I am !

megletthesecond · 21/07/2022 18:04

That cliff won't last.
And I doubt he'll get 10 million for it.

TrashyPanda · 21/07/2022 18:07

How do you keep all those windows clean?

Proudcarerr · 21/07/2022 18:10

I live about half an hour away. The views are absolutely amazing!! I bet it gets snapped up

TitInATrance · 21/07/2022 18:13

Love Croyde, used to stay there several times a year. Tiny place with few facilities, unless a lot has changed in the last 4 years.

That’s an utter monstrosity, and sits between the road and the coast path so very limited privacy. How it got planning permission I can’t imagine.

pictish · 21/07/2022 18:32

It looks like a cartoon villain’s lair.

PeppaPigIsAnnoying · 21/07/2022 18:41

I wonder how long until it goes over the edge

It looks pretty close to the cliff edge.
