Can’t get the link to paste from Rightmove but it’s up for £10 million and looks absolutely stunning

Really hope it gets him out of debt and he can move on with his life

My favourite thing about this thread is how many people arguing what a cliff is Grin

Elephant in the room- This house was left in a skeletal/unfinished state for the guts of a decade. Exposed to a barrage of storms and salt from the sea. The exposed concrete reinforcements were visibly corroded. I’d question the structural integrity of the building.

Thats ignoring the inevitable corner cutting to get the house ‘finished’.

I believe the owner has spent 6 million on it and is looking for 4 million profit. I’d be surprised if it sells for 3 million.

I wish him good luck but I feel he’ll find the sales process a challenge at that lofty valuation.

TrashyPanda · 23/07/2022 14:56

It’ll be very interesting to see how long it is on the market for and how much it eventually goes for

I think it’s rather ugly, but then I hate Art Deco style design. Appreciate that is my personal taste and others feel differently

But it does have to made of rock and nearly vertical, Downend is about 45 degrees until gets to the reef.

The bit from the infinity pool (which is right on the edge) down to the rocks is not 45°

SoupDragon · 23/07/2022 15:14

I think the house is OK. Not to my taste at all but I've seen things which are worse.

the bridge looks like it belongs on a motorway though.

My exact first thought too. Hopefully lots of shading will be added or incorporated

It’s probably special glass. We use it here in the Middle East in residences.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 23/07/2022 15:29

It’s amazing. I don’t think I’ve seen the GD episode. What did Km think?

The owner must be mad. Does he live there now?

The corrosion sounds very worrying.

I can’t get it to play. Frustratingly!

l’m not too far away from North Devon at all, and didn’t know about this. Want to watch it now. Stupid C4 catch up never seems to work for me.

CassieLane · 23/07/2022 19:15

I’d be worried about the position so close to the sea. Not sure anyone else will invest.

Reminds me of the house in ‘Big, Little Lies, with the deck right on the ocean.

SandieCollins · 23/07/2022 19:28

Isn’t the word ‘cliff’ weird when it’s repeated over and over?

bellac11 · 23/07/2022 19:32

I would be amazed if he gets 10 million for that

I remember the programme and thought it was so sad for his wife and children.

TwoMonthsOff · 23/07/2022 19:34

@DobbyTheHouseElk

@DobbyTheHouseElk
oh how utterly annoying 🤬good luck
its fascinating on a second watch seeing how the wife was so keen and soon realised what a bad idea it was and Edward is so cocky and of course Kevin being Kevin beautifully
really hope you get to watch it tonight

TwoMonthsOff · 23/07/2022 19:57

@DobbyTheHouseElk
is your iOS software up to date, it Smooths out glitches on apps, possibly a reason ?
15.6 is the latest version

sleepyhoglet · 23/07/2022 20:00

Anyone got the link to the programme?

sleepyhoglet · 23/07/2022 20:17

I wouldn't say no- amazing views! Not that I can afford it. Someone will buy it, but someone who has other houses already

Success…I think.

The app wasn’t on my iPad screen, so I downloaded it and it worked, then I thought actually I’ll try the big telly. Seems ok so far. I’m waiting for DH to come and watch it. He grew up v near.

i will report back, and thanks for helping me.

sleepyhoglet · 23/07/2022 20:35

They should have just renovated the original house! Interestingly coastal erosion is mentioned within the first ten minutes of the programme. They planned for the house to survive even when the land has eroded! Also, for those debating whether it is a cliff- Kevin mentions cliffs frequently

sleepyhoglet · 23/07/2022 20:38

1.4million to buy the original house and that was ten year ago

bellac11 · 23/07/2022 20:41

They could have been really clever with their money, extended/refurbed the original house for about a million and probably be worth about 4 million about 10 years ago. Marriage would probably survived.

Daysy · 23/07/2022 20:50

I live very close by. House is a ridiculous flight of fancy by a guy with more money than sense and not enough of either, clearly. The entire stretch from Saunton to Down End has been developed totally out of character to the area and sold to people like this guy and Dyson and family to use once a year whilst local people have to move away because of the effect on house prices. The whole thing makes me want to weep.
