Can’t get the link to paste from Rightmove but it’s up for £10 million and looks absolutely stunning

Really hope it gets him out of debt and he can move on with his life

If you can afford that house it's not going to matter that you have to put in kitchens and bathrooms. At least it might save brand new ones being ripped out and replaced, which is the only environmentally friendly thing I can find to say about it.

As a pp said, what a pointless indulgence.

From what I remember about the episode, it was the architect that I felt angry with. It was a vanity project, wasn’t it? A “one last shot”. The architect forms someone with the ego/imposter syndrome that he could leverage and went for it.

antelopevalley · 21/07/2022 14:48

A stunning house. But not worth your marriage.
I would be worried about coastal erosion around the house.

antelopevalley · 21/07/2022 14:49

If I won £195 million I would be tempted though as I could afford for the house to disappear in the future.

I always wanted to know what his day job was as he had one of the biggest budgets ever on GD, and yet still managed to get into debt for millions.
He even had to build a second home to sell it to try and finance the first.
A very sad personal tragedy, but a truly gripping episode.

I'm sure he was a music producer.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 21/07/2022 15:04

Oh I remember this episode, it was tragic. Building a big family home like that and his kids had grown up and were long gone, and his wife had left him.

It's a bit remote isn't it!

Haudyourwheesht · 21/07/2022 15:09

You'd think someone would buy it to turn it into a hotel. With that many bedrooms and bathrooms it'd be a good shout for that.

10 million! LOL. I'm sure even he didn't spend that much on it.

I read an article recently that said that at best he was hoping to break even. He didn't spend £10m but the way the interest is racking up on his loans he doesn't expect to make any money.

I think the whole saga is desperately sad although I think he and his wife are on better terms again now. Apparently she was the first person to swim in the pool. He has never spent a night in the house.

antelopevalley · 21/07/2022 15:12

I do not think he will get 10 million for this.

JaninaDuszejko · 21/07/2022 15:16

Going to have to watch the show now

prettyteapotsplease · 21/07/2022 15:18

It brings to mind the old adage, 'money doesn't buy taste' in my view. If MN is anything to go by it's an unpopular, hideous design which gives new meaning to the description 'monstrosity'.

An apt name for it would be Short's Folly.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes to find a buyer. Even if I won an obscene amount on the lottery I wouldn't touch it with the proverbial barge pole.

Toddlerteaplease · 21/07/2022 15:26

I wonder if it was worth breaking up his family for. The house there before was lovely.

NanaNelly · 21/07/2022 16:03

And yes, obviously a nightmare to heat and cool with all that glass. Kevin McCloud has a lot to answer for IMO

It could be special glass that reflects heat and adapts to the weather. I cant recall the name of it but we use it a lot in the Middle East Even in residences.

My home is in a completely different style to that one though I guess it’s approx the same size but I like this one very much as well and would live In it.

MassiveSalad22 · 21/07/2022 16:07

So he spent his kids’ childhood building this house that still isn’t finished now they’re grown up, got into a load of debt and ruined his marriage?? Yikes! Pretty house but I’d be concerned about erosion too.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 21/07/2022 16:09

I remember watching this first time around and being blown away at how much his ego was ruining his family. It was like he was blinded by everything but getting this house done. Fine if you have no responsibilities but actually really selfish and shitty behaviour from a parent of young children.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 21/07/2022 16:14

Cocobeau · 21/07/2022 12:18

I'm not superstitious but that house has some bad juju. If I had the money, I wouldn't buy it.

I agree. Though when it was originally on I wasn’t keen on the bloke at all.

Woodlandarchitect22 · 21/07/2022 16:14

Aw what an ugly house! It’s difficult when the architect gets a tricky client. 😭

Dark windows and lots of glass by the sea = a hot musty house that’ll deteriorate due to salt water quite quickly.

There’ll be rust stains on the render soon

Longdistance · 21/07/2022 16:15

I’d rather my 10£million house came with a kitchen and wasn’t just about to fall into the sea. That should have been built further back from the cliff edge.

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 21/07/2022 16:20

He was completely obsessive and oblivious to his family’s wishes.
It won’t look so good plastered in seagull sh1t and salt from the sea spray.

The length of time it’s taken I suspect it was further away from the edge when he started!

If I won £195 million I'd buy the thing, and then let the locals take turns in the bulldozer... Grin

Bumpsadaisie · 21/07/2022 12:14

It looks like my son's Lego Police Station - all white and blue glass!

That was my first thought, too.

KimWexlersPonyTail · 21/07/2022 16:42

His poor wife and kids, he spent their home. It's hideous and that white will stain if it hasnt already, looks like an airport control tower. The GD episodes really upaet me; felt for the locals also, it's a bloody eyesore
