What's going to be the new equivalent of "entirely grey house"?

Mooching on Instagram for paint colour inspiration and noticed the trend for grey walls, grey carpet, grey sofa, grey curtains etc etc definitely seems to be dropping off, but can't see a clear contender rising to replace it yet. Anyone more in touch with interior design have any suggestions for what the next big trend will be??

Definitely, especially the forest/bird type prints often with gold accessories.

Cross posted with you Hobnob!

That’s what I’ve had for a couple years, animal/bird wallpapers with gold /bronze etc and a lot of green, if it comes into fashion I will need to change..

HadEnoughOfBears · 09/01/2022 12:56

Earthy and nature colours i.e. shades of taupe / browns / greens with hints of black like black taps, mirrors, frames etc. Also lots of plants.

Snowiscold · 09/01/2022 12:57

Hasn’t the forest/bird/gold stuff been around for a while? I wouldn’t call that the next thing.

Blimey, I'd rather have grey walls than that.

IcedCoffeeMilkshake · 09/01/2022 12:59

Well, I went to see a very fashionable friend's new house. She has painted the walls lemon yellow and has beige curtains with gold and black velvet flock.

Not quite my style- but then again I am just cottoning onto the grey trend now so what do I know!

Beetle76 · 09/01/2022 13:00

A house of blue hues. Particularly navy & white.
(Which is quite unfortunate as I love that look but given its popularity, it’s going to date)

Lipity · 09/01/2022 13:00

The house full of plants thing is like number 2 of basic decor

  1. Grey/Hinch
  2. Millions of plants, bare skandi wood, textures
  3. Jewel colours, velvet, dark curtains, piles of books
TheFishWillSeeYouNow · 09/01/2022 13:01

Probably whatever Mrs Hinch puts in her new house!

realhousewifeofmodor · 09/01/2022 13:01

Panelling everywhere (how people can't see how badly it's going to date is beyond me).

Velvet sofas.

Navy kitchens.

User2638483 · 09/01/2022 13:02

I miss the Laura Ashley catalogue 😢

MoiraNotRuby · 09/01/2022 13:02

I've been wondering about this as will soon be moving into a new build and need to pick carpets and kitchen.

For the lounge I'm thinking an oatmeal sort of carpet, navy sofas, blush pink curtains, magnolia walls, plenty of artwork, tons of plants and layers of light.

Kitchen I'm not sure. Maybe black/very dark grey surfaces and white cupboards.

Will watch with interest- I don't want grey everywhere but I also don't want whatever the next fashion is, I just want relaxing and calm and grown up but with character.

Deep jewel colours - phil/kats house in Eastenders

RobinPenguins · 09/01/2022 13:03

Fake panelling

i think this was a bit early, but its taking over from the dull bland beige and grey

camperqueen54 · 09/01/2022 13:04

Geometries, dark walls bold contrasts

MrsKDB · 09/01/2022 13:06

Agree with fake panelling. Awful!!

Heronwatcher · 09/01/2022 13:37

Fake panelling
Black bathroom fixtures and shower screens
Crittal style doors in obviously out of context places (hallways of Victorian houses etc)
Macrame stuff
Deep green/ teal
Fake herringbone flooring
Bronze/ gold handles
Dark black/ grey/ navy kitchens
Fake mismatched Victorian tiles all over the floor.
That said if any of this is done really well and in moderation it probably won’t date too badly or could be updated easily.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 09/01/2022 13:42

There's this (awful) lemur wallpaper that seems to be popping up everywhere.

Crittal doors are very much the new bifolds, but I'd imagine they cost a few £££ so not a cheap trend.

mermaidgiraffe · 09/01/2022 13:42

Natural/earthy tones, black taps, patterned tiles, herringbone floors, neutral decor, lots of house plants.

megletthesecond · 09/01/2022 13:45

Really dark blue walls.

Makes me twitch at the thought of painting over that in lighter colour in years to come.

Lipity · 09/01/2022 14:53

Good lord wont somebody save us from the MDF panelling Sad
