What's going to be the new equivalent of "entirely grey house"?

Mooching on Instagram for paint colour inspiration and noticed the trend for grey walls, grey carpet, grey sofa, grey curtains etc etc definitely seems to be dropping off, but can't see a clear contender rising to replace it yet. Anyone more in touch with interior design have any suggestions for what the next big trend will be??

Navy

@Bluntness100

That’s what I’ve had for a couple years, animal/bird wallpapers with gold /bronze etc and a lot of green, if it comes into fashion I will need to change..
I hate to break it to you… the Rockett St George look has been fashionable for at least 5 years. Grey was fashionable about 10 years ago.

The "rich brown" photo looks like the end result of a prolonged dirty protest!

If it’s in Dunelm, it’s already over.

SquashMinus · 09/01/2022 15:04

So many things I'm recognizing Grin! I've seen a lot of fake paneling, but so far only in older properties where it's at least nudging towards period-appropriate. No idea how good it actually looks in person though.

The animal/jungle wallpaper definitely seems to have been popping up, but I just assumed I was following people with terrible taste, I really do hate it!

Sorry, that was in response to this link:

If it's in Dunelm then it's mass market ergo it is the fashion of the moment. It's not quirky or unusual anymore it's going to be everywhere if it isn't already.

Bluntness100 · 09/01/2022 15:20

Agree if it’s in dunelm it’s already done, and that wallpaper isn’t great but I understand what the poster is saying, not sure that brown would ever take off though 🤮

Lifeisnteasy · 09/01/2022 15:22

All the jewel colour, lots of plants, herringbone floor stuff is ‘in’ now isn’t it? I thought grey houses were passé

freshcarnation · 09/01/2022 15:23

Sage green

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 09/01/2022 15:27

I think a real wooden herringbone floor is a classic and transcends trends, obviously not vinyl/wood effect herringbone floors though.

Definitely, especially the forest/bird type prints often with gold accessories

I think all that tropical boho type look with the plants and dark walls has been done to death now. Same for fake panelling.

SleepOhHowIMissYou · 09/01/2022 15:32

Maximalism I believe. You can have a Google but it seems to be filtering down to the supermarkets so will hit saturation some time soon.

justasking111 · 09/01/2022 15:33

We put in fake herringbone karndean in first lockdown in the hallway limed oak effect because of the dogs and a dark hallway, it's been fantastic dogs and childwise. I don't care if it's on trend or not

eagerlywaitingfor · 09/01/2022 15:35

@HadEnoughOfBears

Earthy and nature colours i.e. shades of taupe / browns / greens with hints of black like black taps, mirrors, frames etc. Also lots of plants.
Oooh goody, looks like I'm well ahead of the game with the colour scheme in my new bathroom then!!!
DonGray · 09/01/2022 15:36

Lots of clutter seems to be in fashion
Open kitchen shelves
Light fittings that are impossible to clean

Mm,yes. Such as Frida Kahlo and Mexican yellow/blue/pink/greens, pink, black and yellow, f&b arsenic etc
CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 09/01/2022 15:37

Dark walls - navy or dark green.

justasking111 · 09/01/2022 15:39

Sorry not limed oak but white scandi pine herringbone.

I had open kitchen shelves once. Never again, grease collectors.

I got asked this question recently, by someone who signs off the interior decor for new developments. He is young and doesnt have a clue. Sorry to him, but I dont know either! I had to tell him so!
I did manage to tell him that grey was still in for now. But didnt know for how much longer.

Real herringbone oak as kids we would tie dusters on our feet and skate around the floors 😅
StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 09/01/2022 15:43

I wish decor producer types would let poor Frida rest in peace and stop sticking her fizzog on cushions and shower curtains and every other bloody thing.

Really dark blue walls were a thing (we have them) a while ago, we're not super fashionable but liked that look so we went for it. It works well with our little dark cottage type terrace - trying to go light and encourage more sun in just isn't going to happen here, it looked depressing, the dsrk walls and gold frames/accents look lovely, but I'm aware it's had its moment. I've since seen people using dark green in the same way which I also like, but I think it'll be a quicker flash. We must be overdue red walls, right? Dark red. Like so many student houses with huge pieces of fabric on their walls. My least favourite thing, I think. Total sensory overload. I think chintz will be more popular again too. There's an account on insta called @nofeaturewalls that does it really well. Or maybe loads of drapey bits and bobs, 70s Stevie Nicks but thrown at a room.

Summersdreaming · 09/01/2022 15:48

Definitely agree with fake panelling.

Sad about the black taps as I really like the look.
