What's going to be the new equivalent of "entirely grey house"?

Mooching on Instagram for paint colour inspiration and noticed the trend for grey walls, grey carpet, grey sofa, grey curtains etc etc definitely seems to be dropping off, but can't see a clear contender rising to replace it yet. Anyone more in touch with interior design have any suggestions for what the next big trend will be??

Things that are overly popular now and will date easily.

Metro tiles
Gloss kitchens
Dark grout on light tiles
Hague blue feature walls
Wallpaper (most of them)
Fake panelling in newer houses
Modern crittall in older houses

Things I think will be popular for the next few years…

More minimal, lighter interiors
More natural wood and bamboo
70s colours, dark brown woods, rust oranges
More plants

@RustyBear

People with black/navy bathrooms & kitchens are really going to regret it if they live in a hard water area!
I wonder what colour toothpaste, soap they use 😅😅

I'm not giving up my gloss kitchen dog hairs don't stick to it

Most of us follow design trends without even realising it but I think the key thing to do to avoid your house looking really dated is to avoid anything that looks too “of the moment”. So yes - panelling is going to look extremely dated in the vast majority of houses…

We are renovating our bathroom and the trend seems to be for black fittings. Taps, showers, screens, radiators, loo roll holders and even the waste on the bath can be ordered in black. I've also seen many where all the fittings are a gold/brass colour. We've decided on boring chrome though.

In case it ever comes back in fashion, please be warned against ever putting woodchip paper on walls. It took me long enough to remove hideous anaglypta that had painted many times, I am glad it wasn’t woodchip.

Anaglypta is making a comeback.

As are coloured bathroom suites.

@AngelsWithSilverWings - do you have a link to that insta page please? Sounds interesting.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 13/01/2022 10:08

@Peridot1 it's maisonnumber9 on insta - worth watching just for admiring how handsome Martin Kemp still is!

Peridot1 · 13/01/2022 10:11

@AngelsWithSilverWings that’s not why I was interested at all. No siree. Not me. Grin. He is very handsome. And seems lovely and madly in love with his wife which is lovely.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 13/01/2022 10:20

They do seem to be a lovely family.
I submitted a pencil portrait of Martin for my Art O level back in 1986 I got a C - I obviously didn't do his good looks the justice they deserved but at least I passed!
