What's going to be the new equivalent of "entirely grey house"?

Mooching on Instagram for paint colour inspiration and noticed the trend for grey walls, grey carpet, grey sofa, grey curtains etc etc definitely seems to be dropping off, but can't see a clear contender rising to replace it yet. Anyone more in touch with interior design have any suggestions for what the next big trend will be??

Strychnine - absolutely agree. I reckon Frida and the pugs need to team up and leg it when there's nobody in the room.

WetLookKnitwear · 09/01/2022 15:49

Taupe?

To be fair I don’t think it matters as long as you love it. I am getting rid of all the grey in my house because I prefer colour not because grey is out.

Ikeabag · 09/01/2022 15:50

We have fake panelling in our bathroom, as in from years back, and I don't hate it. It's due a refurb though. There's also glittery wallpaper in there (feature wall) that I'll be happy to say goodbye to.

whirlycarly · 09/01/2022 15:51

A friend is flat hunting in a big city and all the newest ones have mushroom colours and dark wood panelling. I've warned him off - it already looks dingy and dated

Ikeabag · 09/01/2022 15:54

Reclaimed herringbone with the old school hall markings on it in a random splash pattern is great but I also think it'll date really quickly. Though it would probably buff off over time with one of those big school floor cleaners...

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 09/01/2022 15:54

Or maybe loads of drapey bits and bobs, 70s Stevie Nicks but thrown at a room.

Yes, I definitely think the hippyish, Stevie Nicks style will get even bigger. Bamboo/rattan is already big so maybe more wall hangings, more macramé, ochre coloured walls. etc.

fillingbilling · 09/01/2022 15:57

Mrs Hinch said her new house theme is 'mushroom' colours. So of course, so will everyone else's house Grin

Ikeabag · 09/01/2022 15:57

The whole industrial look was a flash in the pan too, wasn't it? None of these things spread like the grey though. I still love a good old orangey pine farmer style kitchen cupboard. I have 90s cross stitch sunflower taste deep down and I'll have really mixed feelings if/when it ever comes back. There's nothing more satisfying than a house popping up on rightmove that hasn't been touched in 30 years... aside from the fact that someone possibly loved it for all those years until they died and that's why it's getting sold.

LovelyYellowLabrador · 09/01/2022 15:59

I don’t care but I’m sick of bland grey houses, I don’t get why these things go in such trends !!!

Peridot1 · 09/01/2022 16:01

Doesn’t matter really as it will ALL date. Everything dates so just go with what you like and what suits your house and style of living.

Agree that if it’s in Dunelm it’s at peak if not on its way out.

crosbystillsandmash · 09/01/2022 16:02

@Bluntness100

That’s what I’ve had for a couple years, animal/bird wallpapers with gold /bronze etc and a lot of green, if it comes into fashion I will need to change..
Wow, how ridiculous! Why would you need to change it? Are you so totally deluded and think you're the only one that has this style in their house?

Did you make your wallpaper and furnishings by hand or buy it from a shop like thousands of others?
Thought so.

Bluntness100 · 09/01/2022 16:03

What’s wrong on here at the moment. For goodness sake I’m not going to change my decor if it becomes popular.

Excuse me? I'm totally confused, was your previous post a 'joke' certainly not a great one if so!
Ikeabag · 09/01/2022 16:06

Peridot, I really agree - and try not to care, just find what I like and attempt some sort of order, but even within that I'm still influenced by trends. Also, some things date more than others, and going all in on a specific style or narrow theme to the exclusion of all others is what exacerbates it I think. Still not an issue if it's loved, as long as it's not going to have to change in a couple of years.

Curiousmouse · 09/01/2022 16:08

Navy everywhere.

Ikeabag · 09/01/2022 16:19

Oh wait. Pink. I saw a lot of just dusky pink clustered Christmas decorations this year in B&M and I think dusky pink might keep on going... unless that was to go with all the grey, in which case, I'm all out.

That is how Kat Slater has decorated her living room in Eastenders, can’t see that trend lasting.

sunnybunnyy · 09/01/2022 16:22

@HadEnoughOfBears

Earthy and nature colours i.e. shades of taupe / browns / greens with hints of black like black taps, mirrors, frames etc. Also lots of plants.
This definitely
RenGreen · 09/01/2022 16:22

@Heronwatcher

Fake panelling Black bathroom fixtures and shower screens Crittal style doors in obviously out of context places (hallways of Victorian houses etc) Macrame stuff Deep green/ teal Fake herringbone flooring Bronze/ gold handles Dark black/ grey/ navy kitchens Fake mismatched Victorian tiles all over the floor. That said if any of this is done really well and in moderation it probably won’t date too badly or could be updated easily.
All this in recent friends houses. Plus the bold wallpaper is making a come back. I’m still in the 00s with my brown leather sofas really need to update!

I miss the Laura Ashley catalogue 😢
Oh, and me too.

I think that's what they refer to as 'millennial pink'. Has been around a while now but probably some life left in it yet.
coronafiona · 09/01/2022 16:25

Blue kitchens and white metro tiles with grey grout. Patterned bathroom floor tiles. I have both and I like them 😆

ginislife · 09/01/2022 16:28

Well I'm buggered with my 90sq m of grey Karndean floors all through downstairs with white walls !! I've got grey sofas as well. I have seen a beautiful dark green plush looking sofa on Barker & Stonehouse that I love though.

AmberLynn1536 · 09/01/2022 16:30

The comments about if it’s in Dunelm it’s already over is that nowadays you are never going to be ahead of the curve for very long at all, interior trends have become like fast fashion, if it’s on the catwalk a copy will be in Primark within weeks, same with interiors, a picture on Instagram and a look will explode, nothing stays unique for long.

bobsholi · 09/01/2022 16:35

Egyptian cotton paint. Or as my nan calls it, 'expensive magnolia'.
