What's going to be the new equivalent of "entirely grey house"?

Mooching on Instagram for paint colour inspiration and noticed the trend for grey walls, grey carpet, grey sofa, grey curtains etc etc definitely seems to be dropping off, but can't see a clear contender rising to replace it yet. Anyone more in touch with interior design have any suggestions for what the next big trend will be??

Mrs hinches new baby’s bedroom is all beige and cream shades

@Heronwatcher

Fake panelling Black bathroom fixtures and shower screens Crittal style doors in obviously out of context places (hallways of Victorian houses etc) Macrame stuff Deep green/ teal Fake herringbone flooring Bronze/ gold handles Dark black/ grey/ navy kitchens Fake mismatched Victorian tiles all over the floor. That said if any of this is done really well and in moderation it probably won’t date too badly or could be updated easily.
My new neighbours have ALL of these in their Victorian semi 🤣 looks bloody awful
Nanalisa60 · 09/01/2022 19:46

I’m really not in fashion, I still have pale grey walls but I mix it with other colours teals and shades of blue in the living room , one room is black and white, another has lot of yellow in it. I really don’t think you should worry about what other people put in there homes as long as you are happy in it. I love the new black taps , radiators, and shower screens in bathrooms , mine are all Crome but won’t be changing as still look fine. My upstairs has carpet and they are all charcoal grey for no other reason other then they don’t show any stains bought good quality ones a few years ago and they still look great.

I’m pleased if beiges and creams are coming back, I always preferred them to greys/silver/charcoal

User2638483 · 09/01/2022 20:08

It’s so funny isn’t it, how things come around.

If earthy red does come back it won’t be called ‘terracotta’ will it 😆

freshcarnation · 09/01/2022 20:14

@SleepOhHowIMissYou I'm just about to get a Howdens kitchen. I'm tossing up between the green and a beige (pebble).

CheshireKitten123 · 09/01/2022 20:21

CC, I'm not sure the fashion has rolled round again more like it's never been changed in those houses !

RestingStitchFace · 09/01/2022 20:30

I will definitely be railing against all that panelling and dark walls. It might look stylish in a Victorian or Georgian house but it will look like total shit in my 1970's suburban box....

Hoping desperately that the mid-century modern revival will last a little longer.

@Bluntness100

Excuse me?I'm totally confused, was your previous post a 'joke' certainly not a great one if so!.

Oh, poor you, you think soneone would actually change their decor due to it becoming fashionable?sad times, but no, it was a joke, I’d not change my decor for that 💐

You really are embarrassing yourself now aren't you? Confused
TheVolturi · 09/01/2022 20:54

White and very dark navy blue I think. With copper /gold accessories.

LiveFromNewYork · 09/01/2022 20:59

Agree it's back to off white/cream, ideally a Farrow and Ball though! Dark interiors continue to run and run though.

Also paint to create feature walls or mural type stuff, eg painting geometric shapes and circles or half/third walls. The general objective is to be 'unique' so this way you end up with something no one else has and it's also cheap.

I think not getting the joke in the first place is far more embarrassing

Arren12 · 09/01/2022 21:21

Everything that has been mentioned on this thread has been 'in' for ages. Grey was out years and years ago.
Earthy tones.
Greens
Blues
Gold accessories
Black taps
Bold wallpaper with animals
Scandi furniture
Velvet sofas
Moody walls
Etc etc have all been popular for years

I think earthy tones will hang about a bit.
Greens and blues are on their way out.

I really hope people grab onto the antique shop mismatched trend so we can start to reuse instead of buying mass produced tat.

Tillsforthrills · 09/01/2022 21:47

So gallery art walls are coming back in?

Interesting!

TheDuchess1979 · 09/01/2022 21:55

Definitely navy blue and other “heritage colours” like deep greens and reds.

That said, we redecorated our previously grey box with lots of lovely dark Farrow & Ball colours a couple of years ago and now our house looks like everyone else’s and I definitely think it will date! Oh well!

This has been done to death already.
JeffThePilot · 10/01/2022 00:29

My lounge is dark brown walls and parquet floor, with a teal velvet sofa, other rooms in my house are dark forest green, navy, purple.

Been like that for 3.5 years now, no idea if it was fashionable when I did it, I don’t really follow trends. I do really like dark, bold colours though. If they overtake grey, that’s got to be a good thing.

Sage green still looks good 5 years down the line. Plus you can always paint the cupboards when they go out of fashion.

Is pebble a mushroom shade? Might be a good choice as you can pair it with funky colours like purple and orange which you can't do with green.

Sonex · 10/01/2022 00:36

I couldn't give a crap what's in in terms of walls, I paint everything in white. Always have, always will. Then you can just change the stuff in the house for a new look.

I hope so too. We've got a Georgian house and I do love this look. Which is handy because I love antique knickknacks, especially old toys and radios.

They already are, which is annoying as the price of brown furniture is going up!
Wingedharpy · 10/01/2022 01:33

If you stand/sit still for long enough and change nothing it'll all come round again.
Wingedharpy towers is on the ascent with our battered old brown antiques.Wink(and key tassels - I do love a key tassel).

KloppsTeeth · 10/01/2022 01:55

I like neutral walls, but with bright accessories. I have some grey walls but more greige. Judging by the number of people in B&Q yesterday buying grey paint, it seems it is still a popular choice.
I’ve got some walls in Elephants Breath, which I love. Also like Borrowed Light, a blue tone.

I like the black taps look but they will be a nightmare with the limescale we get as all watermarks show up.

Nat6999 · 10/01/2022 02:37

I don't care what is in fashion, I'm not having shades of cream, brown & teal, been there, done that. I'm having Dulux Rock Salt on as many walls as possible with wallpaper on one wall in my bedroom & lounge.
