Help me choose a front door colour! (Photos)

We are having our front door painted once it's warm enough. It's an Edwardian semi, and the front room windows and front door glass panels both have tinges of green in some panes.

It's currently a hot pink Confused from the previous owner. See photo. I'm considering a grey green like Farrow & Ball Mizzle or Pigeon. See photo from FB website of Mizzle. I did consider Cromarty but the interiors shop I spoke to advised colours always look a lot lighter outside, and I didn't want the front door to look too pale.

Would Mizzle go? I've always had dark doors, so is there anything I should consider regarding going for a light door?

I prefer the hot pink! Mizzzle is a bit nothing really. It looks like a gorgeous frontage and could take a strong colour. What about F&B Hague Blue?

SameToo · 03/01/2022 13:21

Purple one deffo.

Sparkai · 03/01/2022 13:21

Sorry, but I love the pink! And it's bright, but more a plummy pink than hot pink on the photo. The grey you linked is very bland in comparison.

SameToo · 03/01/2022 13:22

Oh haha didn’t read properly. Seems I like it as it is

FazedNotPhased · 03/01/2022 13:23

Mizzle is so boring. I don't mind more muted colours inside but what a bland choice for a door!

I'd go yellow, a shiny Oxford blue, or a postbox red.

pastypirate · 03/01/2022 13:24

I love the pink. The house is gorgeous!!! I'm v envious..

donkey86 · 03/01/2022 13:25

Grey will date horribly. If you’re not keen on the pink (I like it!) then maybe consider a classic red or bright blue.

crosbystillsandmash · 03/01/2022 13:25

Mizzle is so boring (and predictable!)
Your door looks great as it is, must look so lovely amongst the rows and rows of sage, grey, pale blue doors that are everywhere!!

FlowerArranger · 03/01/2022 13:25

Keep the pink!!!

MrsApplepants · 03/01/2022 13:26

I prefer the pink. The other colours you suggest are really boring

allofthecheese · 03/01/2022 13:27

I also like the original colour. I think grey would date. How about a deep green?

Chinam · 03/01/2022 13:28

I prefer the pink. I’d definitely keep it in a strong primary colour.

Thoosa · 03/01/2022 13:29

You need something strong enough to hold its own against the red brick. Maybe a green or blue?

Pinkywoo · 03/01/2022 13:29

I love the pink! I'm so bored of everything being grey and pale green.

Viviennemary · 03/01/2022 13:30

I prefer the hot pink too. I the pale colour is far too wishy washy and lacks character. Maybe a different strong period type colour.

Aquamarine1029 · 03/01/2022 13:30

A deep purple would be absolutely gorgeous.

Woodlandarchitect · 03/01/2022 13:30

That light colour isn’t very nice! And we would discourage our clients to have that colour as it’ll show all dirt & need regular upkeep.

The original colour is lovely.

Sorry OP.

DropYourSword · 03/01/2022 13:30

Glad I’m not the only one who wanted to comment that I really like the hot pink!

Mamaofaboy · 03/01/2022 13:31

I love the pink as other PP, but if it’s really not you there’s nothing wrong with changing it! I also love Mizzle, it’s a beautiful colour and looks really chic and understated IMO

mimos4 · 03/01/2022 13:31

Haha oh no, everybody loves the pink! I just can't bear the pink for some reason. I get that Mizzle is boring... but I don't want to pick something that's bold and amusing now but will need changing in a couple of years' time as we get sick of it.

I think Mizzle works well on country cottages but less so on houses like yours. I'd go for a brighter colour. Wouldn't suit your brick (my house is red brick) but I have Sudbury Yellow on my front door Smile

YellowMonday · 03/01/2022 13:33

I love millennial pink front doors - my dream door! But I much prefer your current pink to grey, grey is ageing out really quickly here in AUS.

Thoosa · 03/01/2022 13:33

Pillar box red or mid green never really age. Just go for something timeless. Keep mizzle and elephants’ breath etc for the interior of you like muted tones.

mimos4 · 03/01/2022 13:35

@Woodlandarchitect I was worried about light colours showing up dirt more and needing more frequent care. But the interiors shop I spoke to said it wouldn't be the case... what colours would you recommend for a period house like ours?

gluenotsoup · 03/01/2022 13:36

I prefer the pink! But would change it to another strong colour against that brickwork. If you are leaning to the green-ish I would look at a stronger shade, or with a green undertone. I like pigeon, which is still quite light, inchyra blue, green smoke, or Hague blue which has green undertones, or something like railings with blue undertones which looks smart.
