Please suggest some areas in Greater London similar to Hampstead and Esher

Currently searching for a safe area in Greater London (or areas where where detached houses and larger gardens are quite popular. A place that has a village/suburban feel to it.

So far I have come up with:
Hampstead, Highgate, Queen's Park, Wimbledon village, Richmond (though plane noise is not preferable), St Johns Wood, Kingston, Esher....

We are running out of options. Have searched for a nice place for quite awhile and simply have not found anything that we feel is worth the price.

Are there any areas that I have missed out?

How much money do you have?

NetballHoop · 22/04/2020 00:48

How central do you need to be?

showerdodger · 22/04/2020 00:49

I love Wim villiage, what's your budget?

Mosaic123 · 22/04/2020 00:50

Chigwell and Loughton on the Central Line. Chingford near the station.

Pipandmum · 22/04/2020 00:56

Guildford? Kingston?

colette49 · 22/04/2020 00:56

@netballhoop
not too central, but good transport links would be highly preferred.

@beetrootrocks @showerdodger

Our budget is quite high but all the homes we have looked at that meet our expectation are around 10million (in hampstead, st johns wood). We simply cannot afford that.

Well what can you afford? That's what big houses in these areas cost, So either lower your expectations or choose a cheaper part of town to live in.

colette49 · 22/04/2020 01:07

@ImNotChangingMyUsernameAgain

we have a budget of around five million. I'd hope it's not unreasonable to expect to buy a house in these areas with our budget.
We've seen a few good houses in Esher and the like for far less than our budget. They meet the garden and detached house preference. Our main issue, however, is that the interiors aren't the greatest. We'd prefer to buy a house that doesn't require us to remodel the interiors extensively..

I'm sure if you give us your budget people will do a fantasy house search for you!

HappyBirthdayQueenieMarm · 22/04/2020 01:10

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 22/04/2020 01:17

Bedford Park (Chiswick)

midwesteaster · 22/04/2020 01:48

St Albans is further out but has a lovely feel to it, we enjoyed the year we lived there with dc.

Kingswood in Surrey

GlamGiraffe · 22/04/2020 05:55

Look slightly into hampsted garden suburb? Maybe along roads like hampstead way rather than really into HGS. You can easily walk yo hamostead village and the heath and golders green or temple fortune for quick shops. Hampstead schools all accessible. Really fast commute to central london on northern line. What's your house criteria. PM me if you prefer I might have suggestions.

www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-74869393.html further into HGS but definitely a more imposing huse in a more grand road. Opposite kenwood house and gardens and halfway between hamostead village and highgate.

Welgarth road is popular.
The houses overall will seem cheap considering those you have been viewing. It might be worth looking for a comparison as some look deceiving I grew ip in the area fo might ge able to give you a good insight

GlamGiraffe · 22/04/2020 06:34

What is your criteria, bedrooms, age, style etc?

KitNCaboodle · 22/04/2020 06:48

Thames Ditton/Surbiton. Corkran Road might be worth a look.
Mortlake/Barnes
Chipstead/Kingswood

Wanstead village, South Woodford. Lots of good housing stock, excellent schools, both state and private, independent shops (Wanstead high street) ,Waitrose,(Woodford) good transport links -ok Central Line but could be worse. Lots of open spaces, Epping forest, Wanstead park.

Not Greater London but not too far out

HattieMid2 · 22/04/2020 06:56

Chislehurst - you’d get a lot for 5 mil!
Lovely village feel but only 20 mins into London.
