Please suggest some areas in Greater London similar to Hampstead and Esher

Currently searching for a safe area in Greater London (or areas where where detached houses and larger gardens are quite popular. A place that has a village/suburban feel to it.

So far I have come up with:
Hampstead, Highgate, Queen's Park, Wimbledon village, Richmond (though plane noise is not preferable), St Johns Wood, Kingston, Esher....

We are running out of options. Have searched for a nice place for quite awhile and simply have not found anything that we feel is worth the price.

Are there any areas that I have missed out?

That first Dulwich Village link I posted is fabulous, beautiful decor.

Admittedly the Moor Park one has the most hideous bathroom I have ever seen. Shame because the house itself is lovely. Money does not = taste

ShirleyPhallus · 22/04/2020 08:21

I’d move to dulwich village in a heartbeat, beautiful location

Desiringonlychild · 22/04/2020 08:45

Muswell Hill

GlamGiraffe · 22/04/2020 10:37

@colette49 Ive tried to pm you. Not an estate agent! You're blocked?

Bristolbitsandbobs · 22/04/2020 10:59

Some of those houses are a drive from a slow train station. 30mins into town?! That’s a long commute.

Do you not need schools or work OP?

Ulver · 22/04/2020 12:09

St Johns Wood

LouLouLoo · 22/04/2020 12:17

Virginia Water.

You’d get a great house for your budget.

ImNotChangingMyUsernameAgain · 22/04/2020 12:21

You can get a large detached house with garden in your choose areas for your budget but you will almost certainly need to undertake significant refurbishment works. If you are looking for something new and fresh you will have to compromise and either look for something smaller or move further out of town.

SurreyMumOfOne · 22/04/2020 12:21

I'm quite near Esher now and used to live in zone two. There's a huge difference between the places you've mentioned. Esher isn't really in London at all. Are you have with a very very nice terraced house? Does it need to be detached? Any commuting or driving time requirements?

ImNotChangingMyUsernameAgain · 22/04/2020 12:26

The house that John Constable lived in is in the heart of Hampstead village and is on at £4.25m. It’s not huge or detached but doesn’t need a huge amount of work to make it liveable and it has great history and is in a wonderful location.

ImNotChangingMyUsernameAgain · 22/04/2020 12:34

Great little house on Abbey Road SJW on at just under £5m.

ImNotChangingMyUsernameAgain · 22/04/2020 12:37

Or a beauty in Louden Road but semi-detached. Take a look at Savills website covering Hampstead and SJW. There is not a huge amount in your price range but they are probably the best place to start.

FidgetyTwitch · 22/04/2020 12:38

There's a massive difference between Esher in Surrey and places in London like Hampstead and Queens Park?!! They're incomparable. Confusing thread!

CaurnieBred · 22/04/2020 12:41

I wouldn't call Virginia Water Greater London! How about this in Totteridge - well within budget at £3,850,000
www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-63650039.html But I wouldn't say Totteridge had a "village" feel

This 6 bedroom one up in Hadley Green, in High Barnet would be better. It even has a pool: www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-78280879.html (and still well within budget)

LilyE1234 · 22/04/2020 12:45

My partners family are from around Virginia Water, Esther, Sunningdale and I just find the whole place completely soulless Sad.
With that budget I’d defo choose somewhere with a bit more buzz to it and closer to London.

If you are looking for something new and fresh you will have to compromise and either look for something smaller or move further out of town

Dulwich Village is closer in than half the places on the OPs list.

For example.

Lightsabre · 22/04/2020 19:26

Blackheath - Cator Estate (SE3) or Chiselhurst.

whataboutbob · 22/04/2020 19:49

Try Catford. Plenty of space for your money.

ShirleyPhallus · 22/04/2020 20:50

Try Catford

Grin hilarious. You could buy the whole of catford for £5m.

CatAndHisKit · 22/04/2020 21:02

Epsom

CatAndHisKit · 22/04/2020 21:03

agree also Dulwich could work (West Dulwich a bit cheaper but a much quicker link to VIctoria - no immediate nice shops though.

EmpressoftheMundane · 22/04/2020 21:06

Try neighbourhoods on the central that a short walk into the Epping Forest. Quick trip into the city, leafy and pleasant, much cheaper than Hampstead or Richmond.

CatAndHisKit · 22/04/2020 21:07

LOVE that house in Balckheath. just my taste

EmpressoftheMundane · 22/04/2020 21:08

Actually, what is your budget OP? And what sort of schools do you need nearby?
