Please suggest some areas in Greater London similar to Hampstead and Esher

Currently searching for a safe area in Greater London (or areas where where detached houses and larger gardens are quite popular. A place that has a village/suburban feel to it.

So far I have come up with:
Hampstead, Highgate, Queen's Park, Wimbledon village, Richmond (though plane noise is not preferable), St Johns Wood, Kingston, Esher....

We are running out of options. Have searched for a nice place for quite awhile and simply have not found anything that we feel is worth the price.

Are there any areas that I have missed out?

OP posts:

Maida Vale, West Hampstead. If you go further out, Radlett

anappleadaykeeps · 22/04/2020 21:11

Do you need to think about schools?

CatAndHisKit · 22/04/2020 21:19

OP did say she wanted suburban/village feel - places like Maida Vale / W.hampstead are to urban, busy. So is central Hampstead but just further out in HIghgate/Muswell Hill does have a quieter/greener feel. Dulwich still feels (nicely) suburban in places too.

whataboutbob · 22/04/2020 21:40

@ShirleyPhallus Safe: tick, Village feel : tick, garden Space: tick, lots of space for your £ million : ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ .
And it’s not under a flight path. What’s not to like Grin

whataboutbob · 22/04/2020 21:41

That should have been lots of space for your 5 million- what was I thinking of.

ShirleyPhallus · 22/04/2020 21:43

Safe: tick, Village feel

In catford?! Have you ever been to catford?? It has the bloody great south circular running though the centre, has no villagey feel and certainly doesn’t feel safe. Forest hill and hither green are nice but catford is a total dive still!

whataboutbob · 22/04/2020 21:47

Shirley, I am spoofing. I’ll be honest it slightly gets my goat that someone comes on here casually asking for a recommendation for an area for a 5 million pound house. But maybe that’s just me.

MrsSchadenfreude · 22/04/2020 22:02

I’d go for Blackheath or Dulwich Village. Esher/Cobham/Oxshott are all soulless and what my Dad used to call the Gin and Jag belt. But lots of large houses in gated communities (in dangerous Surrey!) which appeal to the American families whose kids go to ACS (which keeps the prices high). DD1 went to ACS and we seemed to spend most of our time picking her up from these houses.

NeedToKnow101 · 22/04/2020 22:17

Some parts of Muswell Hill or Alexandra Palace. Lots of Southgate.

ShirleyPhallus · 22/04/2020 22:36

Ohhh nicely done @whataboutbob, I thought you’d lost your marbles!

Fleetheart · 22/04/2020 22:53

This is a very peculiar thread. OP not back. Lots of wonderful and some weird suggestions. But no real brief; or budget. And it’s not exactly a normal request. More a fantasy request. With £5m I would definitely buy in Hampstead I think

terrigrey · 22/04/2020 23:23

The first 3 houses on this thread actually made a little part of my soul die.
What ugly interiors, I can't believe people actually design them like that, and people actually want their interiors to look like that?!?

Black Heath house interior much more my taste.
I would go for Dulwich, I love south London.

CatAndHisKit · 23/04/2020 01:09

*terri( excatly! terrible grey/white endless spaces, and one had those silvery modern accessories everywhere. I loved hte Blackheath house - commented too, buckets of charm.

CatAndHisKit · 23/04/2020 01:10

sorry, that was supposed to be: terrry exactly!

CatAndHisKit · 23/04/2020 01:10

but with only two 'r's argh!

romatheroamer · 23/04/2020 06:53

It is indeed a peculiar thread....was the idea a sort of covert property porn? As pps have pointed out, Esher and Hampstead have nothing in common apart from £££ and then Catford gets thrown in the mix! Hello...

Ulver · 23/04/2020 09:35

Roehampton

whataboutbob · 23/04/2020 09:36

There’s also the issue of insensitivity of coming on here and asking for pointers to a £5 million house in the middle of a pandemic which is already causing real hardship for many.

Ulver · 23/04/2020 09:37

Not my taste but I imagine what the OP is looking for.

Nice location but I can’t stand the WAG style interiors. I’d rip it all out.

Maybe it’s to get estate agents to advertise on the platform. “Yes MN has lots of high net worth users looking to spend £5 million” 👀👀

Lightsabre · 23/04/2020 09:56

Wow! That house in Richmond is amazing Ulver. That area is gorgeous too.

Ulver · 23/04/2020 10:00

I would love to have a £5 million budget to buy a house!
For that I would want a swimming pool. That to me is the ultimate luxury.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 23/04/2020 10:08

That house in Wimbledon village is beautiful, I'd snap that up if I had 5 million!

Not sure abut the suggestion of Kingswood, my dad always thought it was fully of 'dodgy money' - the costa del sol of surrey. But he may be completely wrong Grin

Ulver · 23/04/2020 10:24

I’ve now looked at the £10 million pound hoses in Hampstead and some of them are amazing. You don’t get that much for £5 million in that area.
So I can see why you would want one of those styles of house but somewhere cheaper.
But isn’t a nice high st at with nice shops and restaurants important as well?
Crystal Palace has some nice big houses but doesn’t sound like it would be upmarket enough.
