Please suggest some areas in Greater London similar to Hampstead and Esher

Currently searching for a safe area in Greater London (or areas where where detached houses and larger gardens are quite popular. A place that has a village/suburban feel to it.

So far I have come up with:
Hampstead, Highgate, Queen's Park, Wimbledon village, Richmond (though plane noise is not preferable), St Johns Wood, Kingston, Esher....

We are running out of options. Have searched for a nice place for quite awhile and simply have not found anything that we feel is worth the price.

Are there any areas that I have missed out?

But a quick search on rightmove shows you can get a detached house in NW3 for £5m. There are loads. Why aren't they to your taste?

Personally I'd live in a terraced house in the centre of NW3 in preference.

Esher is beautiful

I think this thread is a perfect example by the way of the fact that for all of us our perfect houses are always JUST outside of our price range!

Blackheath....

The criteria seems a bit contradictory- living in Hampstead is very different to living in Esher!

That said, I'd look at Radlett, Totteridge, Moor Park (it's a private estate full of large detached houses on the met line), Brookmans Park, Cuffley and the villages around St Albans. The last three are where quite a few footballers live and there's lots of large detached houses in your budget.

Epping?

You have picked areas that are ludicrously expensive.

The vast majority of London is very safe. But it is a city: detached houses in any city are not really the norm, so expensive.

Blackheath, Dulwich Village.

And a quick train journey, Sevenoaks.

OpthalmosVerde · 22/04/2020 07:42

I always (perhaps naively) thought if one was house hunting on that kind of budget - lottery win type money - you’d employ someone to do the searching for you. Like a personal shopper for houses, your very own Kirstie +/- Phil. Does that not exist?

Spidey66 · 22/04/2020 07:47

Crouch End or Muswell Hill. No tubes, but easy to get to tubes by bus, or there are National Rail at Hornsey and Ally Pally.

Bristolbitsandbobs · 22/04/2020 07:49

Can’t you up your budget? Why the limit?
I know that can seem a weird question to most people but mortgage limits are not usually the reason at the top end.

showerdodger · 22/04/2020 07:59

Would you spend less eg 4m & do renovations? As mentioned by another pp some of the areas are very different from each other.

showerdodger · 22/04/2020 08:01

this is a beautiful house, needs some updating but could probably offer less.
