Please suggest some areas in Greater London similar to Hampstead and Esher

Currently searching for a safe area in Greater London (or areas where where detached houses and larger gardens are quite popular. A place that has a village/suburban feel to it.

So far I have come up with:
Hampstead, Highgate, Queen's Park, Wimbledon village, Richmond (though plane noise is not preferable), St Johns Wood, Kingston, Esher....

We are running out of options. Have searched for a nice place for quite awhile and simply have not found anything that we feel is worth the price.

Are there any areas that I have missed out?

I live more central London and we don’t get many houses that big on the market very often and when they do come up they are closer to the £10 million mark.
And they need a lot of work.

I read somewhere that the reason that footballers and WAGs have houses like they do, is because they often came from poor backgrounds, and their idea of luxury is a hotel-style interior.
So shiny floors, monochrome furniture and glitzy lighting.
Just saying.

And I would imagine it goes down well with oligarchs and the crazy rich Asian gang too.

Not sure abut the suggestion of Kingswood, my dad always thought it was fully of 'dodgy money' - the costa del sol of surrey. But he may be completely wrong grin

Nice. And a crock of shit.

Dulwich village is great (I don’t live there): it around Dulwich Park (lovely park with lake), there are the woods between Dulwich and Sydenham Hill, lovely walking. A few chi chi niche shops in the village, good cafes, restaurant, Dulwich Picture Gallery (with lovely grounds) Bel Air Park, just next door to E Dulwich with Picturehouse Cinema, chi chi niche shops , M&S food hall, good restaurants. I find the Village a bit like a theme park if tweeness, but it does have lovely big houses and big trees everywhere.

Dulwich Village, Wimbledon Village, or around Wandsworth Common (the toast rack area is lovely, although the area 'between the commons' around Northcote Road is better connected).

Although you might find that in these areas 5 million doesn't go as far as you might think!

Not much for sale at the moment, but this one in the 'toast rack' gives you an idea www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-77631847.html

Richmond is great. 5m would get you a lovely family home. You could look at Petersham or Kew as well.

Further out, Oxshott is beautiful and there are some lovely large homes out that way. Same with Cobham.

Linguaphile · 24/04/2020 08:57

This one in Oxshott is bang on 5m. www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-67685625.html

I should qualify, it’s not particularly to my taste, but generally a lot of house.

Bristolbitsandbobs · 24/04/2020 10:48

It would also have the roar of the A3 in the garden, but beggars can't be choosers Grin

The beautiful Dulwich house featured earlier is also right next to a busy rd which wraps around the garden.
That would put me off.
I was looking at it online years ago because I love the verandah and the colonial look of it.
It’s been on the market for a long time.
