Argument with DH. Is your draining board to the left or right of the sink?

Discussing layout of new kitchen.

DH says the space would work better if the draining board was on the left of the sink. I say the draining board is always on the right of the sink and I would feel weird washing up if it was on the left.

Who's right?

Left. My right hand is busy washing what my left hand is holding then my left hand pops what it is holding onto the draining board. Easy.

Funnyfarmer · 13/06/2017 22:23

Mines on the right. Only because we had to change it round to get our dishwasher In.
It was either that or buy whole new unit or kitchen

NanooCov · 13/06/2017 22:23

Ours is on the right. Parents is on the left. Bog standard metal kitchen sinks usually have two holes for the tap (one in each side) so you can have it either way and a bung goes in the unused hole.

CocoaLeaves · 13/06/2017 22:25

Mine is on the right.

KoalaDownUnder · 13/06/2017 22:25

My theory is that whichever one you grew up with will feel 'right'.

eurochick · 13/06/2017 22:26

Right.

justdontevenfuckingstart · 13/06/2017 22:27

On the right and I'm a leftie. All our kitchen displays are on the right now I think of it. Left one would seem odd to me.

Kokusai · 13/06/2017 22:29

Left. Was right in last place and left before that!

Sparrowlegs248 · 13/06/2017 22:29

Ours is on the left. I find it awkward to wash up when they're on the right. I hold the plate/cup/whatever in my left hand, wash it with my right. So it's easier to put it to the left.

I have had them both sides in different houses depending on the layout.

wellhonestly · 13/06/2017 22:31

Mine is on the left but that's because the dining area is on the right (as is the cooker).

Dishes -> sink -> draining board -> cupboard.

Left

ilovepixie · 13/06/2017 22:31

Mine is right.

Whisky2014 · 13/06/2017 22:32

Ours is on the left and it's wrong!

phoenixtherabbit · 13/06/2017 22:33

Ours in on the left. My mum's is on the right. helpful

DropZoneOne · 13/06/2017 22:33

Current and last house both on right. Parent's current and last house both on left!

I'd never thought about it really. Possibly because OH does most if the washing up.

Unicorn81 · 13/06/2017 22:34

Mine is to right, parents one is to left, both work equally well

NC4now · 13/06/2017 22:37

Mine's on the right. I've never thought about it.
I suppose I pass the dishes from one hand to the other. If not doing that is an inconvenience, I've got too much time on my hands.

flumpybear · 14/06/2017 06:48

Left, but we have had hi DS where it's on the right ... mainly left though

I guess it's like taps, sometimes they're on the other side

ilovesprouts · 14/06/2017 06:49

Right

OliviaStabler · 14/06/2017 06:51

Left

WinnerWinnerChickenDinner0 · 14/06/2017 06:53

Right. And right in 3 of the last 4 places I lived

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 14/06/2017 06:53

I've lived in around 25 houses during my nearly 50 years of life - 20 of those during my adult life - and they have been a mix of left and right drainers depending on the layout of the kitchen. Currently we have a sink in the kitchen with a left hand drainer and one in the utility with a right hand drainer.

AlternativeTentacle · 14/06/2017 06:53

I've lived in over 32 different houses, and can categorically say that I can't remember more than one with the draining board on the left.
