Argument with DH. Is your draining board to the left or right of the sink?

Discussing layout of new kitchen.

DH says the space would work better if the draining board was on the left of the sink. I say the draining board is always on the right of the sink and I would feel weird washing up if it was on the left.

Who's right?

Left here too.
I think I could cope if it was the other way around though. Wink

Wolfiefan · 13/06/2017 21:37

Right.
I am right handed. Wash up and then use your dominant hand to put stuff on drainer.

SweepTheHalls · 13/06/2017 21:37

On the right! Anything else is just plain wrong!

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 13/06/2017 21:37

Ours is on the right and was in our last house too ...and in my parents house too
Left would feel wrong to me too

JoJoSM2 · 13/06/2017 21:37

Could the washer-upper decide where they want it?

SpringBail · 13/06/2017 21:38

Mine is on the left and I'm right handed.

AyeAmarok · 13/06/2017 21:38

When we bought our kitchen, the designer told us that you should decide depending if you are left or right handed.

If right handed, then you are likely to hold the glass in your left hand and the brush in your right, then rinse it in your left hand, then you would use your left hand to set it on the draining board to the left.

So right handed, have the draining board to the left, and vice versa.

Fruitcocktail6 · 13/06/2017 21:38

My current one is on the right, but previous house it was the left.

MagentaRocks · 13/06/2017 21:38

Mine is left.

Purplepicnic · 13/06/2017 21:38

Left. As napqueen says, a right-handed person would hold the plate in their left hand and clean it with their right. Therefore the draining board should be on the left.

Suppose it should be the other way round for lefties.

Plunkette · 13/06/2017 21:39

Our kitchen here (US) is in the left. Our house in the UK it's on the right.

EllaHen · 13/06/2017 21:39

Ours is on the left.

I love it when the one who is certain is wrong. Grin

OhDearToby · 13/06/2017 21:39

Mine is on the right but thinking about it my sisters, my parents and the one in the house I lived in before are all on the left.

stuckinthehouse · 13/06/2017 21:39

Mine is on the right and it's awkward.

I agree with the pp who said that as I'm right-handed I hold the dish in my left hand so that my dominant hand can scrub.

DoorKnee · 13/06/2017 21:40

Mine is on the right, my mums on the left!

sleepingdragons · 13/06/2017 21:40

Right.

Allice · 13/06/2017 21:40

One is on the right, it was in my last house.
My mums is on the left though, I've never given it a thought before.
I'm having an extension and new kitchen v soon, have no idea where the kitchen planner has planned to have the draining board

Right hand side.

OdinsLoveChild · 13/06/2017 21:40

Left in my house but as a child my parents was on the right.

It doesn't work being on the right. I pick up my cup with my left hand out of the sink, clean inside with the sponge using my right hand, then have to reach over to the draining board crossing my arms to place it down. If its on the left theres no crossing over of arms or anything.

alltouchedout · 13/06/2017 21:41

Ours is on the left. I really don't have a preference.

YorkshireTea86 · 13/06/2017 21:41

Mines on the left, I've lived in houses with it on the right too but think I prefer it on the left, like nap queen says, hold plate in my left hand and dominant right hand does the scrubbing then left hand puts it on the drainer.

noenemee · 13/06/2017 21:41

We've never had a drainer to the left and we've had loads Grin

When I designed my own kitchen I had a drainer either side of the sink. It was grooves cut into the worktop. Perfect Star

DramaAlpaca · 13/06/2017 21:41

Mine's on the left, but I would have preferred it on the right.

The sink could've been put in either way round, but the kitchen fitter had installed it before I could tell him how I wanted it, with the taps fitted and everything. In retrospect I should've got him to change it because it annoys me.

CuthbertDibble · 13/06/2017 21:41

Mine's on the right, previous house it was left and house before that it was right.
