I'll start.

A kitchen island.
A hall console table.
A corner sofa.
New rugs.

I am thinking of getting a plumbed-in Miele coffee machine.

Also, did I mention woodchip? I would like no woodchip in my house.

...

Guess what the kitchen is papered with?

Hmm
mousmous · 30/03/2015 18:31

I like woodchip

hate single glazing (how this is even legal at thus day and age)
sash windows drafty guillotines
kitchen at the back

YouFargingIceHole · 30/03/2015 18:53

what's woodchip?

mousmous · 30/03/2015 18:57

it's lining paper that has woodchips inbetween the paper layers. hides shoddy plasterwork uneveness on walls, is (slightly) soundmuffling and insulating.

OTheHugeManatee · 30/03/2015 19:01

Single glazing - check
Sash windows - check
Kitchen at the back - check

Jesus --whats wrong with lamimate flooring? its better than pissed thru, sicked on mouldy carpet!!!

SoMuchForSubtlety · 30/03/2015 19:54

That's true monkey!
Our dog can't walk on it though, it makes him a bit neurotic (he does tend to overthink things) and it's not robust enough for us - a leaking dishwasher completely destroyed ours in the kitchen.
And I think it looks too shiny. I'm not good with shiny, due to not being good with cleaning.

Bunbaker · 30/03/2015 19:55

It's an MN thing monkey. We have laminate in the kitchen and dining room because it was there when we moved in. There is nothing wrong with it, and as you say, it is far more practical than carpet.

Blackeyez09 · 30/03/2015 20:23

Love reading this thread! Grin

"Jesus --whats wrong with lamimate flooring? its better than pissed thru, sicked on mouldy carpet!!!"

I'd agree with that Grin. However, clean good quality carpet is much nicer than both imo. If your carpet is pissed through, sicked on and mouldy then I don't blame you for wanting laminate.

Mintyy · 30/03/2015 20:33

I dislike laminate flooring. Is it ok to say that or are you only allowed to say you dislike carpet?

IfNotNowThenWhen · 30/03/2015 20:42

I have:
laminate
wood chip
Too many cushions
glass table ( I like smoked glass!)
net curtains
fur Throw (freezing house, is bloody warm)
electric fake flame effect fire (see freezing house)
lots of that is due to living in a short term rental though.

I wouldn't by choice have:
Magnolia walls
cheap poly carpets
fake plants.
shiny fabrics
black kitchen worktops
fake fire surround
Pleather look bed

i think most people's houses even the naice ones look really bland usually.

lavenderhoney · 30/03/2015 20:43

Completely confused by a pp saying not a rotating effigy of Ian Duncan smith holding a clam. Is that a thing now? :) I might get one and invite in the prospective candidates that will probably be doing round anytime soon.

IfNotNowThenWhen · 30/03/2015 20:44

Love the dog over thinking things!

IfNotNowThenWhen · 30/03/2015 20:57

I think the thing with new rugs is actually against polyester rugs with horrible designs.
This is new (and vey vey expensive)but I like this www.therugshopuk.co.uk/rugs-by-size/louis-de-poortere-keshan-beetle-green-8076-rug-dp1401.html

CalamitouslyWrong · 30/03/2015 21:15

I don't like original windows in period houses. I much prefer a nice plastic window. I also don't like fireplaces that are purely decorative (and I'm never going to light a fire in one, so any fireplace will be purely decorative). I'd much rather have a blank wall. In fact, I'd rather have no chimney breast at all and have a nice flat expanse of wall.

I don't like laminate flooring. I'd much rather have wood (but not stripped back floorboards, which are cold, make the room all echoey, and too often are seriously drafty). I'm not keen on carpet either, tbh. DH insisted that we have carpet on the stairs and everywhere upstairs except the bathroom. Sure it's warm and soft, but I don't like it very much. Reading MN convinced us that we wanted a good quality 80/20 wool blend, which cost a bloody fortune. We wish we'd just gone for some decent quality polypropylene instead though.

We've got an incredibly ugly upvc front door. It may, in fact, be the ugliest upvc door ever produced. It's even got a huge, brass lion head knocker on the front. I hate it and wish we had a nice front door.

PigletJohn · 30/03/2015 21:46

plastic windows and doors

AlbertSpanglersConscience · 30/03/2015 21:51

mousmous you've clearly never had to spend days of your life scraping the bastard stuff off a wall - centimeter by chewing-gummy centimeter. Sad

I have seriously considered hiring a flame thrower for the next room.

AlbertSpanglersConscience · 30/03/2015 21:53

So that's why you like it. :D

AnnieMoor · 30/03/2015 21:54

Venture style family photos on the walls.

Brown pleather sofas.

Interiors styled by Next.

Beige hotel style bathrooms with Travertine.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 30/03/2015 23:32

I shouldn't have come back to this thread, now I am traumatised by the beamed ensuites. Walls...closing...in... Shock

echt · 31/03/2015 00:12

What's wrong with beams in the ensuite?

To be fair the chap who built our house was faithful to the beach shack style of the area. So we live in a big shed with a tin roof. With beams.

Bunbaker · 31/03/2015 06:52

Why are so many people anti carpets? We have no-one under 14 in our house and I find hard floors throughout too cold, so we have carpet in the living room, hall, stairs and landing and bedrooms.

I like carpets too. Again my youngest is a teenager. No-one wears outdoor shoes in the house. My carpets are ood quality with a lovely underlay. So very soft and warm to walk on. We are also a family that likes to sit on the floor a lot, it would be uncomfortable with wood or laminate.
I have carpets in my living room, stairs and most of my bedrooms.
