Shall I inform the school and other parents?
The person spent 4 years in jail and I don’t feel comfortable that my child Is in one classroom as the convict’s son.
I know school probably just cares about their money but isn’t it a bad look for them to have a convict within their community?

It’s not uncommon for criminals kids to go to private school. It will be happening in most private schools throughout the country. The school won’t remove the child and you’ll make yourself unpopular if you bring it up. I’d let it be unless it impacts directly on your child.

People like this (criminals) shouldn’t be allowed In private schools.

Gosh, is the child a criminal? As well as the parent?

afaik once the parent has done their sentence then there’s generally no rules about where they can send their kid to school. Nor are there rules about where they can go on holiday, what shops they’re allowed in, etc. how utterly awful that you have to mix In Such circles 🤣🤣🤣

lol one of my friends decided against private schooling where we are because all of them had gangsters’ DC in them! The most famous being a local drug king pin who organised the shootings of two men in an Asda car park. I thought it was common knowledge that criminals liked their DC in private schools away from the riff raff they associate with. Quite sweet really.

Daisylove1 · 25/01/2026 08:09

If you think no criminal who has made big has ever sent their kid to private school, then I don’t know what to say to you 😂
Also the child is innocent, surely you can see that?!

PerksOfNotBeingAWallflower · 25/01/2026 08:11

They might still be paying their child’s fees with dirty money but I’m sure they’re not the only parents with a questionable income source.

CatsAreCoolOK · 25/01/2026 08:11

Are you serious? I really hope you’re not being serious. All children are entitled to the same education regardless of their back ground or parents. Wow I really worry if this is someone’s true opinion…

There are plenty of them in private schools!

YourJoyousDenimExpert · 25/01/2026 08:12

This has actually made me laugh. I’d think that if all children with criminal connections in their family were suddenly banished from all private schools, many - possibly all - would go out of business!!
This is possibly the most naive post I have ever seen on MN 🤣
And no - don’t ‘tell’ the school as you will look very foolish - and not at all ‘Kind’.

LoisGriffinskitchen · 25/01/2026 08:12

The OP posted ar 3am or thereabouts, think about it folks.

Nice try OP but this isn’t real

LeonMccogh · 25/01/2026 08:15

I certainly wouldn’t tell the school, or stop your child from playing with their son if the two children wanted to. The child has done nothing wrong, shouldn’t be ostracised and to be fair, if he has parents who are potentially dodgy then some sensible friendships might do him good.

However I might be hesitant to allow my child to spend time with these parents without me being there, and would almost certainly not allow sleepovers in their home.

Ah! The poor child, judged by you and now you're considering spreading that judgement far and wide.

Thatcannotberight · 25/01/2026 08:19

DurinsBane · 25/01/2026 03:28

But state schools ok?

Absolutely, my son went to Grammar School with a boy whose father had murdered his mother and was still in prison. 🙄. Nobody was insane enough to blame the child and decide he shouldn't get a good education.

Globules · 25/01/2026 08:24

Thanks for the morning giggle

ApplebyArrows · 25/01/2026 08:26

I can imagine it might be galling, paying thousands of pounds a term to keep your precious offspring away from The Wrong Sort Of Children, to find that one of Them is actually in the same classroom!

And what makes private schools special?
You sound utterly ridiculous 🙄

Crikey. Where's the laugh emoji when you really need it? Unfortunately lots of people make their money in unpleasant ways to various degrees. If you thought sending your child to private school would mean they only mix with "nice" people, then you're in for a shock. In any case, it's not the child's fault, and perhaps his dad has repented and now leads an exemplary life.

dunroamingfornow · 25/01/2026 08:30

That poor child is not remotely responsible for their parent’s actions. I hope the school are aware but only so they can give the child the support they need. There are estimated to be around 200,000 children in the UK with a parent in prison. I feel sorry for each and every one of them

QuirkyHorse · 25/01/2026 08:31

I will be surprised if it is only one parent who has found themselves on the wrong side of the law.
Do a bit of digging, there will be more!

BlackCat14 · 25/01/2026 08:35

OP I’m not sure you understand how school works, it is the child who will be sat in class alongside your little darling, not their criminal parent.

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 25/01/2026 03:13

If you’re serious then you’re naive. Serious criminals adopt the trappings of wealth as soon as they can and that often involves paying for their children to go to private school. You can report and action may be taken depending on the backbone of the head but rest assured there will be others - you just don’t know about them.

Absolutely this. Criminals don’t tend to put money away for a rainy day. They buy properties, luxury vehicles, send children to expensive private schools, go on expensive holidays. I met children of quite a renowned criminal once and they had experienced all the trappings of a luxury lifestyle growing up with no idea whatsoever that their education and lifestyle was funded by the proceeds of crime. They thought their father was a ‘businessman’ which he was. The business just happened to indulge in fraudulent activity and included a fair amount of drug dealing too. People don’t always make money via salubrious means. In fact I would go as far fo say that money is often made through the opposite.

amyds2104 · 25/01/2026 08:37

For work we get loads of referrals for children who attend private schools. Parents who may be arrested for offences such as domestic abuse, child sexual offences, fraud … god forbid substance abuse and huge cocaine habits!

Quick get the pitchforks out because the children obviously are to blame for their parents behaviour!

Caughtletren · 25/01/2026 08:37

strawberrybubblegum · 25/01/2026 07:39

Lovely.

So it's one of those posts designed to show private school parents just how much contempt other people have for them.

That will make us feel more engaged with society and OK with ever-increasing theft redistribution through higher taxes...

What are you talking about @strawberrybubblegum

my children go to private school. As did I. Read my post again. I’m saying you’d have to be pretty thick to fall for being sucked in to thinking this on the basis of this OP!
