Shall I inform the school and other parents?
The person spent 4 years in jail and I don’t feel comfortable that my child Is in one classroom as the convict’s son.
I know school probably just cares about their money but isn’t it a bad look for them to have a convict within their community?

People like this (criminals) shouldn’t be allowed In private schools.

Bwahahaha!

Well at least you know how they are affording the fees!!

Very good...

CatkinToadflax · 25/01/2026 07:18

A parent at our village infant school complained to the headteacher that her daughter was in the same class as a little girl with a dad in prison. She didn’t get terribly far with her complaint. They left the school in a huff and went to a private school instead, where I hope the clientele was more to her liking. Her surname was Cheek. Only one step away from the double -barrelled Cheeky-Fucker.

We moved away but I hope the little girl with the dad in prison had a happy time at school.

Surely criminal backgrounds are far more prevalent in private school parents than state school. No one is affording private school through 'working hard'. It's either drug lording or profiting off the backs of others' hard work for a few generations. It's ok though. It sets them up nicely for a career in politics or finance.

Most private school parents are working in professional jobs: doctors, lawyers, engineers, quite a few teacher parents at my DD's school. All people whose skills and hard work you depend on every day. You also depend on the tax they pay - from their hard work - which the UK's public sector is funded from.

The spiteful stupidity of posts like this are definitely something I can do without IRL. Luckily, you're living in your own little fantasy world, and I never need to meet you.

Ha, wise up. Go into any private school reception on the day fees are due. You’ll find more than one character paying the full fees in cash…

When my dd trialed her now school on the first day of term, there was a mum at reception chatting to staff. It was clear from the conversation that she’d just paid the fees and that her child wasn’t new. I did vaguely wonder why she had chosen to go in and pay as to my mind that’s a major hassle. I didn’t think any more of it. Why would I? I smiled, said hi. Having now met a whole bunch of other mums from dd’s year, she really didn’t fit the demographic and she stood out so I remember her. Seemed like a nice lady, bit of a character. You’ve just given me a bit of a lightbulb moment actually.

Reporting a child’s parents unless a safeguarding concern is outrageous and I would hope you’d be flagged as one of ‘those’ parents. The head is likely aware if you are. It would be really unfair of you.

Yes it's the same here. Mostly doctors consultants. Charging criminal rates to their patients.

Who will be paying for it in the vast majority of cases via private health insurance.

But state schools ok?

What about politicians kids at private school , can they stay ?
A lot of them are rather crooked.
I think you're having us on OP , if not you sound a bit stupid , perhaps other parents may not want their kids mixing with yours.

Onceuponatimethen · 25/01/2026 07:22

Op quite a high proportion of UK adults have a criminal conviction (25%) and 10% have spent time in prison.

I would keep this to yourself.

The crime is that despite the amount of tax extracted from us to pay £226 billion every year for the NHS, it's still impossible to get state-funded medical care so people have to pay a second time for private.

Onceuponatimethen · 25/01/2026 07:24

On the question of who is paying fees a high proportion statistically is paid by baby boomer grandparents who have experienced significant house price growth and have final salary pensions. Nearly half of all pupils have some help with fees from extended family www.premiumcredit.com/news-and-events/nearly-half-of-private-school-parents-rely-on-family-help

People like you shouldn’t be on this planet but here we are. As PPs have said it is not the child who is the criminal and they should not be judged for their parent’s actions… please do report to the school though so they can laugh at you 🤣

Caughtletren · 25/01/2026 07:25

Horrible people (like the OP) in private sector.
Horrible people in state sector

Silverbirchleaf · 25/01/2026 07:25

Full marks to mum for wanting to give her child (convicts child) the best education in difficult circumstances.

No, but some of the responses reveal genuine nastiness against the private sector.

What a stupid comment. By far the most common parental profession at my DCs school is medical. Certainly well over half.

Onceuponatimethen · 25/01/2026 07:27

This is what has funded the SEND exodus to private schools as the vast majority of those families cannot afford to pay the fees out of their income. They are helped by wider family, increase their mortgage, maximise working hours/income and some sell up to downsize etc as well.

Iocanepowder · 25/01/2026 07:28

You are naive op, sorry.

I went to private school and at sixth form, my friend’s dad supplied drugs to all of us at her birthday party. (I didn’t take any). He wasn’t a convict.

peacefulpeach · 25/01/2026 07:30

I totally believe this yarn 😴

And who should be ‘allowed’ in private schools? Like others have said it’s not the child’s fault and also this criminal may have learnt their lesson. There is such thing as rehabilitation.

Good try but a bit of an obvious wind-up tbh. B+

Exactly.

I went to a private school. Plenty of the parents made their money in less than traditional ways. Nobody thinks that the only people with money are doctors and the like.
