Hi all, other than trying to cobble together a list of the spelling list by asking our children and other parents, does anyone know when the spelling test will be released?

Thanks

My eldest son has Autism but luckily it was COVID so he missed SATs but he would have struggled with all the exams due to anxiety and processing disorder.Hes doing his GCSEs and it's still a big struggle for him but he copes much better than he used to .

Thanks @Darren2134 .

I think it is easy for parents of more able children to not realise the impact they have on parents of lower achievers. And it does continue on to the GCSE threads where parents will insist on writing what their DC are predicted (and somehow it is always grades 7-9) when it isn't really relevant etc. It is off-putting to parents of average achievers (eg those expecting 100-105 in SATs) and to those whose DC struggle even more.

I would also add that 105 is a good score. My DD found it ok.

DS didn’t manage to finish the maths today and is pretty upset. He’s always found speed a problem with maths, it’s just so sad to see him write himself off as stupid and at such a young age.

My child didn't either
She said she missed the last question

My DD didn’t finish the reasoning paper too if that can make him feel better ☺️ nothing tells you that what he did wasn’t accurate so not finishing doesn’t mean anything unless you are aiming at 115+

Theordinaryfam · 14/05/2025 22:58

My daughter is going to be so mad if she got a specific reading comp question wrong 🤣🤣🤣🤣 it’s causing quite a debate amongst the 11 year old and she is apparently the only one out of who she is debating with that wrote what she did and she is ready to complain to the exam board if she is not right 🤣🤣🤣
she is hyper focusing on it ( Autistic ) and if I hear about it one more time hahahaha

i don’t think she cares if she does well as long as that question is right !

Not sure they do extra after school in preparation for tomorrow so yet to pick son up.

I can't believe that some schools actually do this. These are probably schools that last Friday were saying "You're more than a score, etc" and go and have a fun weekend, but are now trying to make children cram. They obviously don't think they have taught the children adequately up until now!

That’s sad. Hope they are ok. Someone in my kids room didn’t finish the last 3 questions so I imagine quite a few didn’t finish. They are usually the harder ones anyway.

According to a teachers tik tok thread and the replies lots of children struggled to complete the test within the time limit .Also lot of criticism for Reasoning having overly long text for essentially a maths paper .

FcukTheDay · 15/05/2025 06:22

I have been sitting in with children completing sats this week, the papers have been pretty good. Reasoning 2, which is today, is normally hard. It was extremely hard last year hopefully after all the complaints then it has been taken on board.

I'm not sure PP’s realise the strict administration of tests.

Maladministration costs teaching careers.

Spelling test words ( and details of any tests) should not be posted. School staff are prevented from reading the papers during the test to ensure that content isn't shared.

Confidentiality in the test period is vital.

School staff aren’t prevented from reading the papers! We have several staff who are readers, scribes, transcribes or prompters - how do you think they manage to do that without seeing the actual test papers?

Which mocks is she comparing them to?

I’ve just asked her and she said their mocks were the 2023 papers.

Interested in what this question is as mine said there was some debate about a specific question on the reading paper too!

I was surprised that some schools are doing last minute cramming sessions too. They can’t be very confident that they’ve taught them adequately leading up to the SATS.

Darren2134 · 15/05/2025 08:18

I'm surprised lots of children claiming teachers are helping them with papers according to posts on Tik Tok but of course might be made up .

Ooh, I’d like to watch these TikTok’s. Whose account is it? It’s so unfair if people have been cheating. I don’t doubt it happens though. How annoying.

Just put "Sats " in search and it's mainly in the kids accounts comments .

There is 2 questions
1 has caused a debate ( choice of 4 )
1 has caused either them to be like how the heck would we know
and then the rest write 1 of 2 explanations
That’s the one my daughter is hyper fixed on it was an interpretation question. So they all think they are right 🤣🤣

Thatcannotberight · 15/05/2025 10:48

My son did the previously mentioned 2023 Sats. The school did prep in lessons, no homework, and only booster sessions for those who would achieve Expected with a little help. The maths teaching in general was woeful. Nobody realised how bas it was until the top set Maths class in yr 7 were shown a concept that nobody from our school had been taught, but children from the surrounding feeder schools had all been taught it in yr 6.
Do they still do a creative writing test, assessed/marked by teachers? Our school was externally moderated that year too.

Munchathon · 15/05/2025 15:13

Yes, the writing element is assessed by the teachers in school.

How did everyone’s kids find the second reasoning paper?

And she missed 3 questions

Mine found paper 3 easier than paper 2. She couldn’t finish yesterday, while she got through the end today. Also, maths is not her favourite subject. Funny how the perception changes from child to child :) well done to all of them!

Actually I think we are taking about the same paper. Yesterday’s reasoning was really hard! Today was described as ‘ok’

Mine didn't finish paper 2 or 3.
She's on the cusp of getting age expected.

So not sure if this will have helped her
