Hi all, other than trying to cobble together a list of the spelling list by asking our children and other parents, does anyone know when the spelling test will be released?

Thanks

Some children won't have sat it yet

TeenToTwenties · 12/05/2025 10:55

Why? Once it is done, it is done.

Because I’m interested to know what the words are.

Thanks! I guess some kids will sit it late which is why they release it a few weeks later.

Yep - embargo in case of timetable variations (sickness, schools not being sent the correct paper…)

Munchathon · 12/05/2025 17:12

That makes total sense. It’s a shame my son can only remember one of the words 😂.

I’m just wondering why you want to know? My daughter did hers today, I asked her how they were and she said ‘fine’ and I didn’t think anything else was needed.

Please don’t post the words, some children will be sitting the papers at a different time.

I want to know because my son has worked hard on learning certain spelling words and I wanted to know if any of these came up. He is also very good at grammar and the spelling test could have derailed his overall result. And I’m nosey. Is that a sufficient explanation for you?

It is ok for people to be interested, even if you aren’t.

I administered the test and would have to wrack my brain to remember half of them now. 😂We've moved on.
Even if your son can remember them, you won't know whether he spelled them correctly on the paper. If he's very good at grammar, then he's likely to make expected standard, even if he doesn't score highly on spellings.

Thank you @Hiker27 - admins will delete your comment as not everyone has sat the test yet. If you wouldn’t mind deleting that would be helpful to them I imagine.

@Hiker27 what don't you understand about not posting exam content during the embargo period?

HateThese4Leggedbeasts · 12/05/2025 23:21

All the ones my ds told me seemed quite hard. He also told me his answers and they were all wrong! Hopefully he did better than he thinks.

He’s come away from it thinking he’s got 67/70. 😂. He said he checked it 5 times. I’m pleased he’s had a positive experience at least. I said it didn’t matter what he got and he’s tried his best and that’s all that counts.

Fingers crossed he did well on the grammar section. He volunteered the spellings of one of the words - which he got wrong. But he still seemed confident and I didn’t want to burst his bubble by asking him to respell any. As tempting as it was.

I'm so confused
I really thought everyone took the exams at the same time and there was no moment on that? Cos surely otherwise children could tell other children the questions?

There will be some exceptions - such as kids who were ill for today or just absent.. sounds like will try and make them do it within a few weeks before the test papers are formally released.

purpleme12 · 12/05/2025 23:48

Wow I thought if you were ill then you just didn't get to do them

I mean you could get some of the questions from other people couldn't you

Yes, it’s not a perfect system but I guess they need to have an option for those who were ill on the day. They want all state school kids to be tested so this forces people’s hands.. those who were considering just not turning up for them to avoid. 2 weeks is a long time.

I'm not sure PP’s realise the strict administration of tests.

Maladministration costs teaching careers.

Spelling test words ( and details of any tests) should not be posted. School staff are prevented from reading the papers during the test to ensure that content isn't shared.

Confidentiality in the test period is vital.
