Is it considered slovenly to write names on everything or do I have to sew labels on like a saddo?

I have written names on so far for dd1 but she only had coat/gloves/scarf combo for playgroup

School 'strongly recommend sewn in labels'

will my card be marked as Sloth if I send her in with marker pen tags on her cardigan?

Well, since they make laudry pens to do exactly that job, thats what I'm gonna do! Oh and a lot of school clothes even provide a little dotted line for you to write on to!

totaleclipse · 18/07/2007 13:28

Biro stays on better IMO

Tortington · 18/07/2007 13:28

if you send her in with shoes in oldham surely its a bonus

NeverTickleASleepingSoupDragon · 18/07/2007 13:28

Oh write them in. Life's too short for sewing/ironing in sodding name tags.

Ecmo · 18/07/2007 13:28

buy iron on ones....MUCH easier

NeverTickleASleepingSoupDragon · 18/07/2007 13:29

Nothing is easier than a pen.

lucykate · 18/07/2007 13:30

i just write all dd's. the name needs re-doing occasionally, fades in the wash

MaureenMcGonagall · 18/07/2007 13:30

I bought the name tags, all lovely and printed, when dd started school at 5. I think I bought a pack of 100. I believe, now she is just leaving year 6, I have about 92 left!

throckenholt · 18/07/2007 13:30

well I am a sloven as well then .

Even more so - I just write the surname - that happily covers handmedowns as well !

oliveoil · 18/07/2007 13:31

laundry pen?

have not heard of one of those fandangoes

sounds right up my (lazy) street

biro has stayed on her cardigan and coat etc but they, ahem, don't get washed that often

have just spent my lunch hour in M&S getting all giddy over uniforms

I'm very old fashioned and have Cash's name tapes which I then sew on (badly) ...guess it's because my mum had them for us and they look nice ! but not slovenly to write them by hand .

oliveoil · 18/07/2007 13:32

throkenholt - I cross out DD1 and scrawl DD2 underneath

arf

loads of mums have ordered Shoe Tags - WTF are they?

Woolworths or Wilkos do them. Strangly, in the sewing section! Black permenant marker works just as well though.

DrNortherner · 18/07/2007 13:34

Oh no I sew the in all properly and they are still all firmly in place and he is just ending his reception year.

I will sew again for new term in SEpember.

DrNortherner · 18/07/2007 13:34

Black permanat marker bleeds imo.

And I am no saddo

purpleturtle · 18/07/2007 13:36

Are you calling me a saddo?

I actually like sewing in name tapes. And unpicking them to reuse them.

Hmmm... maybe you have a point.

oliveoil · 18/07/2007 13:37

I don't have time to faff about though

how long does it take you?

I have about 6 tops, 2 skirts, cardigans, bags, shoes

fortyplus · 18/07/2007 13:38

I always use sew in labels for items that get taken off and left lying around - jumpers and blazers, PE socks (you can't really write on a sock, can you?)

Everything else I write in with a permanent marker.

Top tip for boys' black shoes - use a silver or gold paint marker pen!

MaureenMcGonagall · 18/07/2007 13:38

Do children really loose shoes at school? Mind you, the amount of lost property I've seen in our school office is incredible. I've seen the same pair of glasses on the side for at least 3 months!

ShrinkingVenomousTentacular · 18/07/2007 13:38

I like sewing in name labels - sadly I only have one child at school, and 14 year olds are fairly unlikely to lose their school shirt .

DrNortherner · 18/07/2007 13:38

Unpicking to reuse?!! Hadn't thought of that.

Am so going to do that now.

Olice, I feel like a proper woman and mother when I sew. Tis therapeutic.

oliveoil · 18/07/2007 13:39

oh she can lose socks imo

saggermakersknockturnalley · 18/07/2007 13:39

I only did the sewing in thing with my PFB. The others got permanent marker on the labels.

One of dd's friend's mums even labels socks. I ask you? Does the woman not have better things to do?
