Anyone nervous for primary school admission results?

State primary admission results are.out this week. We have to wait for a letter, how retro, as we did a paper application for a deferred Reception start (DD is 5 in July, some minor additional needs). Really really hope we get a place at the friendly local school a 5 minute walk away! Anyone else waiting and want to chew their nails with me?

@ChevalierTialys it depends on whoever is in charge of admissions what year they start you. DD will be starting in Reception and she is 5 in July so.ought to be in school already.

I’m in NE London and my local council website says emails will be sent this evening- why??? I’m itching to know!

Zinnia · 16/04/2019 12:09

@NorthernRunner you can log on to the eadmissions portal from 5.00pm to see your outcome. Emails are then sent out during the course of the evening (in theory - some of this year's secondary offers didn't come through on email till the next day!). Received wisdom is that the 5.00pm time is set so that parents have overnight to cool off before hitting the phones to their admissions offices.

Paddington68 · 16/04/2019 12:09

London and Surrey school are always in the evening.
Don't forget to accept the school you are offered, generally within TWO weeks, even if you are waiting on a place higher up your list of preferences. Ensure with local authority/school that you are on any waiting list you think you are.

"I’m in NE London and my local council website says emails will be sent this evening- why??? I’m itching to know!"

Because that is the settled London-wide (and Surrey) policy, and has been for years.

Probably (guessing here)

a) volume of emails for London population densities means they want to do it our-of -hours when system are otherwise quiet

b) number of cross-border applications means they actually want to do it together

c) less abuse of staff of people are forced to cool off overnight before they can phone anyone

d) fewer heat-of-the-moment unwise rejections that people then seek to rescind

You might be able to get all boroughs to agree to change, if the view really is that the current system, despite years in use, is suboptimal or just plain wrong. What might be preferable?

Thanks for the info about checking the eAdmissions at 5pm.Flowers

SchrodingersBrexit · 16/04/2019 12:38

@SquirmOfEels I'm Surrey/London borders and got mine last night.

NorthernRunner · 16/04/2019 12:42

Thanks for replies, I will check at 5pm.

To be honest I will be happy with any of my daughters top 4, I will be massively surprised if she doesn’t get in number 1 as it wasn’t over subscribed last year and is a 5minute walk from our house.

It’s a shame if one of the considerations for letting parents know after 5pm is to allow them time to ‘cool down’. I appreciate it can be a stressful process and not everyone is fortunate to have a handful of good schools on their doorstep, but it’s not the member of staff who answers the phones at the councils fault.

I can’t stop hitting refresh!! Can’t focus on on anything else. Even though I know it’s pointless as we are in Surrey, so no outcomes yet! Anyone else waiting on Surrey?

Snausage · 16/04/2019 13:33

Kent, here... Apparently they'll be sending an email after 4pm, and the offers will be on the website from 5pm. The waiting is so stressful.

sidesplittinglol · 16/04/2019 13:35

Omg I've just found this thread after starting one thinking there wasn't one as It didn't appear on my active feed!

I'm so nervous! I know they said in the evening but I can't help but to keep checking my emails!

Raisingbabylg · 16/04/2019 13:36

I've been checking constantly! It's getting obsessive!

Frazzled2207 · 16/04/2019 13:47

Stockport are fairly charitable in that they sent the emails yesterday evening.
Best of luck to everyone, we got our 1st choice but I know not everyone will be so fortunate.

RiseAndShineyShite · 16/04/2019 14:06

NE London here. Still waiting. My top choice is 0.7 miles away by foot and is always oversubscribed but hoping to get DS2 in on the sibling rule, so fingers crossed he's in. If not I don't know how I would get them to two different places at the same time!

SparklySneakers · 16/04/2019 14:17

Waves @Frazzled2207 from the land of early emails Smile

EugenesAxe · 16/04/2019 14:19

Waiting on Junior result here but when I looked for my children in previous years (infant and the elder’s junior result) the eAdmissions portal has often been updated much earlier than email. So it might be worth checking during the day if you are very anxious.

BTW to PP with comment about no-contact ex and safeguarding, I think that’s something an appeal panel would take notice of, if you are disappointed and worried.

aweedropofsancerre · 16/04/2019 14:29

In London here and waiting until after 5. I am not anxious as such but we have a decision to make based on the offer as my DS is at a local pre school where he can stay until yr 2 however if we get our local church infant school we may have to move him.

ChevalierTialys · 16/04/2019 14:31

I've been checking constantly! It's getting obsessive!

So glad its not just me. Feeling like an obsessed nutter.

APurpleSquirrel · 16/04/2019 14:34

Somerset here - Admissions portal was updated at midnight. We checked at 3am when DS woke up - DD has got her first choice school which is fantastic as we're not in catchment & it's a tiny village school with a small intake (8!) so we're really lucky she has got in.

sidesplittinglol · 16/04/2019 14:39

Apurple congratulations!!

melanieb32 · 16/04/2019 14:49

We got our results this morning and thankfully we got our LO into our top choice! So relieved, we were also out of catchment for the four choices we put but are so pleased with the result. I hope everyone gets what they want xx

GenericHamster · 16/04/2019 15:15

Phew, first choice achieved. Interestingly in our area many of the schools that were oversubscribed a few years ago were undersubscribed this year, the opposite of the bulge year my son was in.

NorthernRunner · 16/04/2019 15:39

When we moved to the area 5 yrs ago, I always assumed that dd would go to primary school A as it was well known to be the best, but was always over subscribed. When it came to making the decision and visiting the schools, it was the only one I truly disliked. So we put down primary school B which was undersubscribed last year, but last month received outstanding with ofsted. So fingers crossed 🤞🏻
