Anyone nervous for primary school admission results?

State primary admission results are.out this week. We have to wait for a letter, how retro, as we did a paper application for a deferred Reception start (DD is 5 in July, some minor additional needs). Really really hope we get a place at the friendly local school a 5 minute walk away! Anyone else waiting and want to chew their nails with me?

northernrunner I’ve started a thread about it, but only because my DD is a bit chunky love her, and need to know what and where I can buy stuff that will fit come August. Not actually planning on buying it yet iyswim Wink

NorthernRunner · 16/04/2019 17:37

No I won’t buy yet, I will leave it until June time, we have dc2 coming along beginning of August so I do want to try and be a bit organised haha

Snausage · 16/04/2019 17:49

Still no email, here, but the website was updated at 5pm on the dot and we got our first choice. So relieved!

HexagonalBattenburg · 16/04/2019 18:00

I always buy uniform early but that's so I can do it gradually and I've got two very close in age so if the eldest has a growth spurt I pass stuff down to the younger one!

RiddleyW · 16/04/2019 18:15

Phew we got first choice! We must have just squeaked in, I feel incredibly lucky

MsRabbitRocks · 16/04/2019 18:42

And first choice here in London too! It was the closest school but still pretty fab for London!

Bugsymalonemumof2 · 16/04/2019 19:12

I bought some skirts in the TU 25 off and they are so big they don't stay on. I'm going to leave it until nearer the time as I don't want to buy 4-5 just get incase she has a growth spurt

Deccax · 16/04/2019 19:23

We got 1st choice!! Such a relief

car1sberg · 16/04/2019 19:28

@Stilltryingtocatchwind oh really? Do you live in Holystone too? Despite being from the NE originally, after being away for so long it feels strange to be coming back - would be lovely to make some new friends!

Thankfully our little girl got into B! So pleased. Silly me had been checking with North Tyneside but the offer came via my current LA, and they hadn’t found out until late last night so I’d missed the email. Had to ring up to find out!

DumbleDork · 16/04/2019 19:43

Bugsymalonemumof2 I’ve got the terror at her starting. She’s going to be 5 in the first week of September so one of the oldest. But she’s my last baby and her going to school will leave such a gaping hole and I’ll miss her so much

MsMarvellous · 16/04/2019 19:50

@DumbleDork mine going this year is my youngest as well. It's going to be weird.

Bugsymalonemumof2 · 16/04/2019 19:58

I can't even imagine my younger one starting! Going to be lost when they both go.

My fear for DD is she has a speech disorder which makes her hard to understand and I don't want it to affect her ability to make friends :(

JanartaMeen · 16/04/2019 20:21

We got 3rd choice, but it is still judged Outstanding and more importantly, looks to be a really lovely school. It's a little further away than I wanted, but hey, extra fitness is no bad thing. Wink She says, desperately trying to forget that she will have to walk 4 miles a day in the freezing winter. Grin

JanartaMeen · 16/04/2019 20:22

Bugsy, just to put your mind at rest, I used to work in Reception and children with a speech disorder were always accepted and understood by their peers. 4 / 5 yr olds are marvellous little beings who always find a way.

BikeRunSki · 16/04/2019 20:26

Today is the third time i’ve done this, it does not get any less nerve wracking.

HexagonalBattenburg · 16/04/2019 21:05

Bugsy - my youngest has verbal dyspraxia and had very little intelligible speech when she started. I'll be honest - there was a little more wariness from other kids for a few weeks but now she's just part of the group like everyone else in the class (and her speech has developed amazingly)

Stilltryingtocatchwind · 16/04/2019 22:17

@car1sberg I was going to suggest that but I wasn’t sure and didn’t want to sound like an idiot. I’ve been wondering about you all day.

I’m in K’worth so round the corner.

Bugsymalonemumof2 · 17/04/2019 08:34

Thank you! It's verbal dyspraxia that they think she has. The kids she goes to nursery with are great because they have known her since she was 1 but a boy at soft play asked me what language she was speaking the other day :(

TwentyBandits · 17/04/2019 15:36

I'm back again after being devastated by being given her 3rd choice. I appealed immediately and we've been phoning around today to find out what's going on. The very, very good news is that she's only 6th place in the waiting list so I think that once we appeal we'll get the place, I'm going to print off as much as possible to support my appeal but if anyone has any tips please throw them my way!

ShowOfHands · 17/04/2019 15:43

How successful are appeals in your area? Here they are very proud that nobody ever wins an infant class size appeal. I had excellent grounds (serious safeguarding issue) and the authority apologised profusely but did not allow the appeal.

Some areas are different but appeals are very hard to win for infant aged children.

Bugsymalonemumof2 · 17/04/2019 16:35

Appeals aren't easy to win..however 6th in line will be quite a good chance of getting in anyway

ShaggyRug · 17/04/2019 17:02

Infant class size appeals are very difficult to win unless you can prove an error has been made in the admission process. There’s not really another success route Waitlist is your best option there but it depends on how much movement will take place.

ShowOfHands · 17/04/2019 17:44

The LA should be able to answer your questions. Here the waiting list tends not to move. We sat at number 1 from the April to the December when we moved house. In some places there's massive movement.

Raisingbabylg · 17/04/2019 17:51

I got my 5th choice but I am very pleased. I had been looking at their website the other day and thinking this wouldn't be a bad option. It has a breakfast and teatime club run externally so there will be spaces and costs a fraction of what I would have been paying my childminder had she gotten one of my top 3 choices. It's also on the way to/from work so easier for us to get too! #alwaysabrightside

DoAllMeerkatsComeFromRussia · 17/04/2019 18:11

Bugsymalonemumof2 As mum of two teenage boys with verbal dyspraxia, I don't think you'll have anything to worry about. When they were little, all the others accepted them without a moment's thought. The youngest took longer to make all his sounds (still says a few noticeably wrong and he's 15) but always had a big group of friends. The only time we had any issues was with new children to the school and when transferring to secondary but the kids who knew him soon sorted that out! And staff have always been fantastic. The boys could barely speak at all when they started in reception but they were still taught to read at the same time as the others, got speaking parts in assemblies etc. DS1 got really good grades in his GCSEs and DS2 is going the same way so it hasn't held them back at all. It seems to have run down the male line in our family as DH had it and DS1 and 2 but not DD.
