hoping that maybe some teachers could shed some light on this

My DS has just started in year 1. Last year he did really well in his reading and finished reception on MAGENTA band. He got "excelling" at reading in his end of year report. I was led to believe that MAGENTA band was the highest you could go up to in reception.

Anyway 2 other parents have now told me that their children have been moved onto MAGNOLIA band. DS is still bringing home MAGENTA books and honestly I think they are too easy for him. I can't understand why if other children have been moved up he hasn't been also as he was excelling in reception. He knows all his letters and can read lots of words.

I defiantly will be having a word with his teacher but just wondering if this is normal. Would it be ok for me to ask to see a MAGNOLIA book as I am sure he is ready to read them too.

You make me smile!
Reading is so much more than sounding out the words!
...is not only about decoding the words or sounding them out.
Is your child understanding what he's reading? Is your DS using correct intonation and recognising the punctuation? Does he give you correct comprehension answers?

nicp123 · 24/09/2016 23:29

I wouldn't go to school and make a fuss... why not buying some more challenging books yourself and enjoy reading with him at home, discussing contents etc.

DesolateWaist · 24/09/2016 23:35

I love this thread.
But moreover I love the people who haven't read the whole thread.

Prehaps the COLOURS were on the books when they brought them op?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 24/09/2016 23:57

I think I love the people that did read the thread and still didn't get it more.

I might need to report some posts though. Words have been capitalised that are not colours. I'm sure that must be against the talk guidelines.

DesolateWaist · 25/09/2016 00:37

What if colours are in other words when they are not actually being the colour, if you see what I mean.
I'm getting tiRED just thinking about it.

MidniteScribbler · 25/09/2016 01:55

I am discusted that my classroom books are not in such interesting colours. I am defiantly going in after the holidays and changing them.

VIOLETsunflower · 25/09/2016 09:28

Those of you disCUSTARD about the confusion over book banding schemes will be relieved to here that there is to be a campaign that we hope MNHQ will be in support of.

It will be called 'BOOK BANDING: A PIGMENT OF YOUR IMAGINATION' and will be wipeable and everythink.

MarklahMarklah · 25/09/2016 10:44

Hmm, D's ready to move up a band - the label looks to be a WHITE or CREAM colour- but it is called SEED CATHERDRAL. Is this one of the PIV books?

MarklahMarklah · 25/09/2016 10:44

*CATHEDRAL stupid keyboard

Rulex · 26/09/2016 10:20

Seriously OP, I'm not being deliberately rude (just intrigued!) but what the hell is up with your spelling?! 'Defiantly', 'discusted', 'PVC', 'pacifically'...

blueskyinmarch · 26/09/2016 13:06

This thread is hilarious. Its just like the good, old days on Mumsnet. I think there should be vote for putting it in classics?

ShowMeTheElf · 26/09/2016 13:20

What colour is myrtle? No, really, what colour is Myrtle?

VIOLETsunflower · 26/09/2016 13:27

www.colourlovers.com/color/3F5C40/Myrtle

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 26/09/2016 13:27

Green I think.

GplanAddict · 26/09/2016 13:30

The Duke of Edinburgh did get involved as clearly someone had to! The colours are a shambles.

GOLD, SILVER and BRONZE was passed by his PR team. Word has it he actually preferred YELLOW SNOW, PEARL NECKLACE, and SHIT BROWN, but he might have been having one of those days he has sometimes.

Diddlydokey · 26/09/2016 13:40

VIOLET can you please name change to reflect the correct way to write a colour.

discusted and defiantly are hurting my eyes

This whole thread should go into pedant's corner to be torn to pieces.

VIOLETsunflower · 26/09/2016 14:25

I'm a PIGMENT of your imagination so I didn't think you could see me.

SORRY.

TheTyrannyOfMAGENTA · 26/09/2016 15:10

rafal it is actually GREEEN!

TheTyrannyOfMAGENTA · 26/09/2016 15:10

Also, MNHQ defiantly need to get onboard with the CAMPAIGN.

Bambooshoots14 · 26/09/2016 15:11

Love the posters who defiantly haven't read the thread Grin
