Prepping for Pandemic... 14

OK folks, we have been prepping for a Pandemic for 13 threads now. And a Pandemic we now have.

I think we all know this has gone beyond prepping now. And most of us agree that the UK Government has not really stepped up to the mark. We have had shared advice here from our Italian residents and those in other countries who have taken much more stringent measures.

So this thread continues to be about us being prepared. But it is more than that. It is about support, sharing of information and advice. It is now a community. A community who acknowledged a long time ago that this was always 'Not Just The Flu'

I thank you one and all for being here. We have tough times ahead. But we are all still here. Please share, rant, whatever. The great thing about these threads is that they have always been supportive and non judgemental. I like to think it's a safe space for all of us who are concerned. And trying to do our best. For ourselves. For our loved ones. And for our community and beyond.

I'm also looking at grow bags and small green house, wilko usually do good value growing stuff and cheap little plastic greenhouses

Mil has been told the test won’t be back till Tuesday - so from Friday till Tuesday. That’s the length of time it’ll take them to test... that’s so long!

Can anybody help as I've asked this question but don't know if should even be on the radar.

If my year 9's MMR booster is cancelled next week does this put him and others at risk?

Other schools did it months ago but it's scheduled for next Thursday at his school.
I'm worried key immunisations could slip through the cracks...

@MacronsPensWiper I had a food bank rage this morning. Our local supermarket basket was woefully low with only things like Easter eggs in it.

Meanwhile people were clearing out the basics, two packs of 24 loo rolls, 3 calpols, every fairy liquid on the shelf etc.

I grabbed 3 of the last 5 small bags of pasta, a multipack of tuna and what remained of the branded beans and plonked them in on our way out.

Don’t get me started on the aggressive parking, we were nearly clipped by two cars fighting for the space as dh reversed out.

@Whatthefoxgoingon Piers Morgan's talking more common sense right now!

Sprayitall re slugs this has been my friend for many years:

Nemasys Slug Killer 40 sq. m: fast despatch
4.2 out of 5 stars 25 ratings
Was: £13.90
Price: £13.49 FREE delivery.

You just reminded me I hadn't bought any for this year yet. Available from Amazon. Depends how much veg you want to grow and how big the area and it will suggest redo every three mos but I find the one pack works wonders and very few appear later in the year. It's organic and you need to read and follow the instructions, but is very simple to do. I too tried everything else even surrounding the bigger beasties with oats which they are supposed to munch their way through and later explode, but now I keep my porridge for myself and just water the solution in... it's the right time of year to be doing it too Grin

MacronsPensWiper · 14/03/2020 13:59

I know posh.

It was only yesterday that I was actually in a shop and saw it for myself. I do my usual large shop on line and dh gets small tops ups in the week.

So I've not seen it.

It feels good to be able to give something back now. The government should put pressure on supermarkets and us the public to hold stuff back for the elderly!

Saffronesque · 14/03/2020 14:00

@Sprayitall

Copper tape , baked shards of eggshell, beer traps - nothing helped in my garden last year. Yet my parents ' garden, same size - had few problems. A key difference was my planting density. I had 3x to 4x as many crop plants.

I will have fewer this year - hopefully higher success rate!

MoonlightMistletoe · 14/03/2020 14:01

Thank you all for the toys advice, collecting all fabric toys now and putting them away! Going to remove their rug for now too.

So saddened to hear of the 12th death an 88yo man in the UK, the article has said the family only had a few mins to say their goodbyes.

Dreading the cases now but I suppose we have to accept that it's not going to get any better right now, no thanks to Boris fucking Johnson.

Saffronesque · 14/03/2020 14:02

I did use nemasys too, which has worked in the past, hence my theory about crop density last year.

DitheringDoris · 14/03/2020 14:06

@MacronsPensWiper it might be worth looking on gumtree or your local Facebook selling site for a small freezer if you can’t find one in your local shops.

GeistohneGrenzen · 14/03/2020 14:07

Spray I might have misinformed re the Nemasys timing - might be every six weeks not three months but will say on site or pack. Have just ordered mine. The hatched out slugs in the soil are consumed/destroyed by the nemotodes and don't get the chance to grow up...

MacronsPensWiper · 14/03/2020 14:08

Posh the other concern is people stealing from the food bin in shops...

MacronsPensWiper · 14/03/2020 14:10

Re snails and crops.

I'm going to get grow bags and put them on my table and put snails pellets around the bottom.

bobbbbby · 14/03/2020 14:13

Are they still publishing figures daily?

MoonlightMistletoe · 14/03/2020 14:14

Please tell me 10more people haven't died over night ? Wtf

itsnotjustflu · 14/03/2020 14:16

Omg 21 fatalities. I'm in shock. How can we jump so much in day

itsnotjustflu · 14/03/2020 14:17

😢😢😢😢

pemberlyshades · 14/03/2020 14:17

Woah. Just woah. I can't even get my head around that.

VivaLeBeaver · 14/03/2020 14:17

So I guess our actual cases have also doubled in a day but we don’t know because we’re not testing.

itsnotjustflu · 14/03/2020 14:20

Exactly. We can only go by fatalities now. Makes me sick

Elsa8 · 14/03/2020 14:22

1140 today, it just updated Sad

MoonlightMistletoe · 14/03/2020 14:22

So we won't have a case update today? How can this be happening I don't understand the logic behind this at all. We all need to stay at home don't we ffs.

MoonlightMistletoe · 14/03/2020 14:22

@Elsa8 omg !
