Prepping for Pandemic... 14

OK folks, we have been prepping for a Pandemic for 13 threads now. And a Pandemic we now have.

I think we all know this has gone beyond prepping now. And most of us agree that the UK Government has not really stepped up to the mark. We have had shared advice here from our Italian residents and those in other countries who have taken much more stringent measures.

So this thread continues to be about us being prepared. But it is more than that. It is about support, sharing of information and advice. It is now a community. A community who acknowledged a long time ago that this was always 'Not Just The Flu'

I thank you one and all for being here. We have tough times ahead. But we are all still here. Please share, rant, whatever. The great thing about these threads is that they have always been supportive and non judgemental. I like to think it's a safe space for all of us who are concerned. And trying to do our best. For ourselves. For our loved ones. And for our community and beyond.

London Marathon cancelled. Feels like people are making their own decisions. Good.

Ok if you have less space like me and storing away is a night mare, I had this brilliant idea of using vaccum bags while I was in the shower. Lol (really helpful) I also found out you can use vaccum bags inside freezer which I have did now. So anyone prepping like me but have less freezer bags - try it and the food lasts three times longer too instead of buying new freezer right away

Yesterday below I'll look at changes when DC1 vacates the computer.

The situation in Italy March 12 2020, 18.00

I know how Mumsnet loves Zoflora and I've never used it before so hope to gleen some advice. It was a substitution in my Tesco order last night and reading it says it kills 99.9% bacteria and viruses... so does that make it as effective as Dettol? I've just made up a spray bottle and used it around the kitchen for the first time... Twighlight something - smells rather nice!
I'm finding doing small practical things helps with the anxiety!

Miaowse · 13/03/2020 17:32

@nannynick thank you for the information about your pulse oximeter Flowers

JellyFishSquish · 13/03/2020 17:33

Sorry, asked this on a CV thread but have not been able to read through all of either...but has the UK been dropped from the Johns Hopkins map, detailing confirmed cases? This is freaking me out:

MrsWhites · 13/03/2020 17:34

Wow @VenetoResident that’s around 2000 cases in a day!

Looking at the map from yesterday, we had around 100 cases less than Norway and around the same amount as the Netherlands and Sweden. Would be interesting to see how their cases have risen today and continue to rise over the coming days, given that they have taken more stringent delay measures than we have.

Sprayitall · 13/03/2020 17:35

I am planning to vaccum bag the items in bugbag now so it occupies less space and will keep you all updated

Sprayitall · 13/03/2020 17:37

@JellyFishSquish S.. that’s way too scary .. does that mean this is a planned conspiracy I wonder.. I am so scared *

BanKittenHeels · 13/03/2020 17:39

I just don't get the 'I deserve it' attitude, yeah and those at risk deserve to live!

Yep! Me either. I don’t care that you deserve a holiday, I think you’re a selfish little cunt and our friendship is done and dusted.
I’ve explained everything to her, given her detailed advice about viruses, about how they spread, about epidemics and about how selfish she is.

I’m getting my tapestry kit out and going to switch off for a bit.

middleager · 13/03/2020 17:41

Email from Tesco

We understand what a worrying time this is, so we want to make sure that essentials are available to as many customers as possible, and that we can keep delivering to you safely. We’re also working with Public Health England to get their latest advice, so we can prepare for any further developments.

Grocery buying limits
To help everyone have access to the essentials, we may put some common-sense buying limits on certain products - you’ll be able to see buying limits on the individual product pages. We’ll do our best to keep shelves stocked up but at times, we may have low or no availability of some items. Of course, where possible, we’ll pick a suitable substitute for you which you can choose to keep or ask your driver to take back.

Booking a delivery slot
As there may be more customers than normal booking deliveries, you may find that there aren’t as many slots available, so it’s a good idea to try and book further ahead. Don’t forget, you can make amends to your order up until 11.45pm on the day before your delivery.

If you’re a Delivery Saver customer on a paid plan, we’ll still be opening priority Easter slots on Monday 16 March. But demand for slots will be exceptionally high, so please book your slots as early as you can.

Deliveries and advice if you are self-isolating
We want to deliver to you as safely as possible, so please let us know if you’re in self-isolation by telling us in the delivery instructions box when you order online. To be on the safe side, our drivers will be asking everyone they deliver to if they’re self-isolating, so please don’t be offended if you’re asked.

Following the Government’s advice on preventing the spread of COVID-19, if you’re self-isolating, your driver won’t be able to come into your home. But to help make things easier, although we have a bagless policy, we’ll provide clean shopping bags which your driver will use to pack your shopping for you at your door. Lastly, to avoid having to touch our signature touchpad devices, your driver will ask if you’re happy with everything and then sign the order for you

YoursTunbridgeWells · 13/03/2020 17:44

Ocado are no longer delivering into peoples homes full stop. And they are not taking the bags back.

Vaki · 13/03/2020 17:45

Just spoke to my doctor at the hospital as i was panicking too much, he said that while my surgery is still going ahead at this time i will need to be prepared to have my surgery cancelled if the worst happens and cases rise rapidly.

Do you think it would be appropiate to ask for no visitors for the next few weeks due to my condition? And maybe asking son to speak to work to see if they can help reduce the risk in anyway

JellyFishSquish · 13/03/2020 17:46

Sprayitall no, not a conspiracy. But were we kicked off the stats because we are no longer community testing, possibly? UK is now only testing people who are hospitalised. Do not be scared, that does not help!

wheresmymojo · 13/03/2020 17:48

Just had a slight run in with a friend re: plans to be in a restaurant this weekend.

I feel like it's selfish as we are where Italy were two weeks ago and people should be social distancing to prevent the spread.

I'm going too far aren't I?

Anyway...pic for light relief

I am trying to switch off a bit this evening and while still following any notifications that pop up at doing a vision board for my new business instead of trawling updates!

sideorderofchips · 13/03/2020 17:53

Condor ferries are stopping all passengers on the ships with cabins and changing everyone to the fast boat where people will be all jammed in together 🙄 so trying to change my booking for the summer.

On hold and apparently the wait time is 50 minutes.

Sprayitall · 13/03/2020 17:54

@vaki My personal advice would be yes, no visitors and ask son to speak at work.

middleager · 13/03/2020 17:54

I'm gutted as my 23 year old nephew has been in direct contact with somebody who tested positive with cv and he is saying he's off to the pub.

He was also with my 73 year old mother last night.

middleager · 13/03/2020 17:55

Gutted and fuming.

Sprayitall · 13/03/2020 17:57

@middleager how selfish. Stop’em before going to the pub.

IndecentFeminist · 13/03/2020 18:02

School have cancelled the two upcoming trips to London, am expecting a closure end of next week but nothing concrete.

I went to library today to stock up on books for the kids and renewed my twinkl membership, we'll have plenty to keep us busy! 🙄

colouringinpro · 13/03/2020 18:03

Cannot concentrate on anything else today. Seriously considering taking my children out of school next week. They travel on tube to massive secondary with limited hand washing facilities...

I keep hearing off more and more cases of people with very high temp and cough who are being refused testing. I'm worried the numbers are more than the 10,000 estimate.

Anyone else wondering about school?
