Thread 12!

I can't seem to carry over the clicky links in the OP of the last thread. Can anyone else?

Loving the kittens!

AutumnCrow · 09/03/2020 06:15

@ofwarren lovely picture

bellinisurge · 09/03/2020 06:17

I've tried really hard on the other threads but there is one but so much snarkiness I can take.
Gardening tip for newbies- pea "seeds" to grow pea shoots for salads. I took a bunch an soaked them over night to get them ready. Tipped them higgeldy piggeldy but as a single layer into an old supermarket mini brownie box Grinon top of with compost and sat in an old supermarket mushroom box - drainage holes in the brownie box, covered with a bit more compost. Sat on the window sill indoors. Looks like a mini greenhouse/propegator thing. Just harvest the shoots above the first leaf and they grow back. Me love pea shoots.
Tip courtesy of Huw Richards (fab Youtuber) I did it last year at this time and it went marvellously.

AutumnCrow · 09/03/2020 06:33

Hi, @bellinisurge. I grow my own herbs every year, from around March / April. They work on windowsills, too, or in pots or small flower beds.

I've got some oregano growing back already in a pot from last year. I had it in pasta on Saturday.

But yep, too much snarkiness on the other board, that's for sure.

VenetoResident · 09/03/2020 06:33

Oh Thankyou! Will try the pea shoots. @bellinisurge We found radishes quick and easy last year and DH enjoyed the peppery leaves.

Beautiful cat pictures. 😍😍😍

We have a pulse oximeter. It was about £20 or so from Amazon. I bought it to confirm that my DS was having the issues with heart rate that the Apple Watch was showing. It was exactly the same!

So when he was ill recently I was keeping an eye on his heart rate and oxygen saturation. When it dropped (80-86 on standing although recovered to 95 after lying down again) we took him to hospital. That's when he had pneumonia.

DS1's dropped to 95 the other day when he had a fever and felt ill. Doctor the next day and he had bronchitis.

If £20 isn't the end of the world then get one.

Mooncups I'm a full on reusable person so I got to grips with the mooncup although it took a little while. I removed ALL the stem eventually even using a razor to shave the last bits off. I just bear down to remove it.

Panty liners - try making some? I made nappy liners for DS that I still use today. Loads of patterns online.

LightofMine · 09/03/2020 06:37

Congratulations on your new kittens @ofwarren 🐱, Mum cat did well. At least they’re will help as a positive distraction over the coming weeks.

AmelieTaylor · 09/03/2020 06:37

I spent a little time on the rest of MN yesterday, sucked in by the ‘blue box of doom’. Always happens when I’m on my iPad, as it’s there ....tempting me to open other threads 🙄but on the whole I’m having enough just keeping up with our threads. I am so grateful to @wheresmymojo for starting them because it’s such a lovely balanced group!

How the actual hell can I stop touching my face? I have done pretty well to stop general ‘touching’ but I have very watery eyes (normal for me) & itchy eyes (again normal for me) and even though I’m aware of touching them & that I shouldn’t I cannot not scratch/rub/wipe them. I was relatively happy to wash my hands first or use a tissue, but I’m now worried that I might be causing cv to go into my 👀 same with washing my face in the shower.

The bloke on the radio (some ‘specialist’) was saying if you wear contacts etc, just make sure you wash your hands properly first, but then admitted he’s gone back to wearing his glasses. 🥴

OneTimePrepper · 09/03/2020 06:50

Just back from a 24 hour supermarket. Have decided to go slightly further afield for weekly shopping so I can go in the early hours. I think I might make a habit of this. Nobody around apart from the nightshift who unlike most shoppers know how to park their rollers without blocking the whole show. I can report back that they had no packets of pasta on display and they have overfilled the bog paper. Perhaps the nighshift had not got to the pasta yet I dont know. But everything else stocked fully.

I will say that the checkout woman needed a large injection of common sense. She put the conveyor belt on as soon as I started loading up but then left it on. So I was in a situation where by the first few items were sparsley loaded down the other end of the belt and I was trying to load the rest of my shopping on the last square metre at the loading end. Perhaps let me load some items and move the belt along gradually. She was getting on a bit and I was too polite to say anything but geeez. Fucking pleb.

itsnotjustflu · 09/03/2020 06:55

Oh my gosh. Emergency cobra meeting today to decide if they're going to shut schools, encourage working from home and cancel events. Eek. We have an evening Tesco delivery. I fear the supermarket may be drained dry beforehand. This could be happening folks

ofwarren · 09/03/2020 06:57

Is that what it said is going to be discussed in cobra @itsnotjustflu?
Do we know what time?

TipseyTorvey · 09/03/2020 07:00

Love the kitten pics ofwarren. Your mummy cat looks a bit shocked though☺️.

Bellini totally agree about the other boards although impressed at how you stood your ground a few times. I'm just ignoring them all now. They're all too angry about the disruption they know is coming so they seem to think that by calling people names it'll halt the spread somehow.

Posharmchairs · 09/03/2020 07:02

Morning all,

Looking at young ds devouring his milk this morning I’m feeling concerned about our uht supplies.

Dh working from home. Playgroup have decided to meet for a walk rather than congregate in a hall.

How vile is it and is powdered milk even still readily available?

OneTimePrepper · 09/03/2020 07:03

@itsnotjustflu It sounds like its will be a likely action sooner or later if we follow what other countries are doing. I am of the opinion just get it done now whilst we have enough healthy doctors to treat the relatively small number of cases. If this can be nipped in the bud the short term damage to the economy will not be that bad.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 09/03/2020 07:04

KITTENS!!!! This is lovely, what good news Smile

Re other threads, I am actually finding some good distractions that are making me smile.

Perhaps if people stick to topics they prefer (so the litter tray and FWR for me Wink) and avoid AIBU it will be good for distraction and cheering purposes?--

Although I have a tendency to fight on topics close to my heart and have already told someone to fuck off when it's not even 7am so maybe don't listen to me--

Anyway. KITTENS! BrewDaffodilCake

Posharmchairs · 09/03/2020 07:04

Also @ofwarren I showed my small person your picture when he clambered in with me. Apparently they are woof woof babies... half right and very cute!

MoonlightMistletoe · 09/03/2020 07:09

@ofwarren Lovely photo, thank you for sharing :)

ofwarren · 09/03/2020 07:16

Well she is in a dog's bed @posharmchairs so it's almost right 😂

One of the kittens is trying hard to latch on but is just so bad at it. He/she is rooting to find a teat but when he gets there he doesn't suck it.
Hope I don't have to go the vet for syringe feed equipment.

84TinsOfBeans · 09/03/2020 07:23

That kitten just needs to learn what to do. Hopefully they'll watch and learn from the others.

FuckThisWind · 09/03/2020 07:23

Morning all!

Aww at Woof Woof kittens. Well done ofwarren's cat!

Well Cobra meeting will be interesting. Hopefully the lead / push will come from Prof Whitty / Vallance. And it isn't just Johnson coming out saying "waffle waffle we will look at the situation again at the end of the week"

FuckThisWind · 09/03/2020 07:27

Oh and day off today. Helping out at school PM, but this morning I'm going to pick up a few bits at local independent shops. Forgot to mention San Pro on my list of possible shortages last night. Probably because I bought a few boxes weeks ago. Going to do what I've been meaning to for months and make some reusable liners.
Also going to plant seeds today. Good for the soul. Def pea shoots Bellini style. Herbs make me very happy. As do sweet peas. Life goes on eh?

Oh and OneTimePrepper that drives me bloody bonkers at checkouts. I was helping a blind customer do a big shop recently and the lad at the till did it. I had a right go at him. Dicks!

preponderings · 09/03/2020 07:29

😻😻😻 congratulations mummy cat!

Quick question about freezing things:
Best was to freeze courgette and peppers?

Freezing eggs, I need to crack them, beat them and then freeze in a bag, is that right?

Veneto hope your Ds's are feeling better, you two too. Can you say which brand oximeter you got?

Amelie I have no answers about not touching your face. I also have sensitive eyes, and my contacts stop the eye effects of hayfever. The downside is I need to brush hair out of my eyes immediately.

Blueberryham · 09/03/2020 07:37

I hope you don’t mind me joining this thread. I just had a couple of things, when you plant the pea shoots. Is it just garden centre style fertiliser you use? I have never planted anything edible.
Also I get the impressions we are being prepared by the media for some changes. They keep hinting at big decisions needing to be made like school closures. So I wonder if they may be preparing us for it

Heartyhooker · 09/03/2020 07:43

@AmileTaylor am thinking of my glasses as very subtle safety googles, a bit slightly ineffective ones

tinkywinkyshandbag · 09/03/2020 07:43

@Legoandloldolls that's so funny I woke up in the night thinking Tena pads! Like you I can cope with normal coughing but anything more and...

preponderings · 09/03/2020 07:46

Like you I can cope with normal coughing but anything more and...
Same here and hayfever season is starting 😭 The midwife told me (a long time ago, so do t know if this advice still counts) to turn my head over my shoulder to cough or sneeze and it lessens the pressure on the pelvic floor.
