Thread 12!

I can't seem to carry over the clicky links in the OP of the last thread. Can anyone else?

It doesn't say what time. Can anyone remember what time we heard the results of the last Cobra?

Lol @FuckThisWind Boris has been far too relaxed about it all. I wonder if they are expecting more fatalities soon

KundaliniRising · 09/03/2020 07:47

YoursTunbridgeWells you can find thin reusable panty liners here

Pebble21uk · 09/03/2020 07:47

Morning... I'd like to stay with you guys as well, please! I've posted a couple of times on both boards, but the other one is ramping up my anxiety. And as I've been a prepper for over 10 years now I think this is more my home!

Someone asked about powdered milk upthread. Nido is the best of the bunch (available in big tins from Amazon) - it's not bad at all. I had some on my Amazon wishlist just to bookmark it - and my sister in law bought me a tin for Christmas!!!! It may yet prove to be my most useful Christmas present!!

Keeping an eye on the Cobra meeting. Both my partner and I work in schools but have no children of our own. We're in Devon and I am getting twitchy about schools down here as 2 cases have been linked to local schools already! I'd much rather start bugging-in!

Posharmchairs · 09/03/2020 07:47

@preponderings yes, crack, whisk and pour into whatever. Take note of how many eggs goes in. I get four I’ve cube slots to one egg.
Do not use plastic trays 😂.

I’m giving it another whirl with my new silicone ice cube trays today.

The breastmilk bags are a good idea as they store flat or upright depending how full they are.

bodgeitandscarper · 09/03/2020 07:52

Oh lovely kittens! You can get kitten formula and bottles from places like pets at home, some agricultural stores if needs be, we had to supp!ementary feed as mum was too emaciated when we took in our stray. Thinking about growing some potatoes etc in sacks, and sorting the garden. That will be my mission for this week.

AlohaMolly · 09/03/2020 07:54

Could I ask where you’ve seen the news about the cobra meeting please?

bodgeitandscarper · 09/03/2020 07:55

Forgot to say if mum will let you just squeezing a few drops of milk into kitten when he's trying to latch on can give him the idea.

FuckThisWind · 09/03/2020 07:59

News of Cobra meeting was posted as main headline on BBC website around 6am today @AlohaMolly

KundaliniRising · 09/03/2020 08:01

I really rate the meluna cups i have 2 one for me and one if my dd wants to use one, i like the ones without a stem.

For those that wish to try using menstrual cups, the most important thing is to get their position right. Seems obvious i know, but most women that have leaking issues are due to incorrect position.

When you insert it, it needs to be compleatly around your cervix. The cervix travels up and down in the vagina depending on where you are in your cycle. During a period it is low down in the vagina and can be very easily felt with a finger. It feels like the top of a wet nose and looks like a closed anemone. The menstrual cup should be positioned around it to catch all of the blood. For the first few periods ot is a good idea to have a panty liner in place, just incase the cup is not positioned properly.

I hope this helps anyone who wishes to buy one.

KundaliniRising · 09/03/2020 08:02

Ps lovely photo of kittens, i hope that mummy cat recovers well and that the kittens grow big and strong.

AlohaMolly · 09/03/2020 08:03

Thanks FuckThis I don’t follow mainstream media but I think it might be time to start doing so. I’ve got an appointment to look round a potential school with DS this morning and then I might nip to the supermarket for last minute milk.

What do you think the decision is likely to be? Do we really think they’ll go full Italy and lockdown areas? We live rurally in wales and I just can’t see how they’ll police something like that!

Legoandloldolls · 09/03/2020 08:04

Dang re the emergency Cobra meeting. I'm so worried about my sins looming gcses. Sigh

I have such brain fog right now. I'm sure it's due to this. I was going to ask a question but it's gone!

Readyme · 09/03/2020 08:04

Welcome @Pebble21uk long term prepper too it's surreal after years of prepping (and being mocked) our prepping is now coming into use.

AlohaMolly · 09/03/2020 08:05

Also, regarding moon cups, I can’t wear them but have been using cloth sanitary towels for about three years. I got a starter pack for about £20 from earthwise girls and then another little top up of larger pads and I’ve never looked back! I found that my periods are less painful and shorter with them but that’s just anecdata!

LightofMine · 09/03/2020 08:05

I think the last COBRA meeting was at 2pm but not sure when we found out what was discussed. It will be interesting to see what's decided today but at least by calling an emergency meeting goes some way to showing they are starting to take action - a step in the right direction at least.

LightofMine · 09/03/2020 08:11

I bought some cheaper alternatives to the mooncup from ebay last year some time now but I have not really used them as I then got doubts about the safety of the silicon used (I hear all sorts about toys and things made in china that have cancer causing ingredients). Would you risk using it? I have pads so not a problem using them until I can fund a genuine mooncup.

BlackeyedSusan · 09/03/2020 08:11

110,110 cases.

Rising rapidly.

MoonlightMistletoe · 09/03/2020 08:12

I can't see them putting areas on lockdown but that's going off the news this morning , letting us know Sainsbury's isn't rationing items? Things are still under control and that the advise is the same - hand washing.

However to the shops this morning, my 7yo is complaining of a sore throat and slight cough and my other two are snotty as always Blush

Posharmchairs · 09/03/2020 08:14

@AlohaMolly I agree. I can’t use cups or tampons. Idea of them post childbirth was too much!

However cloth pads are so much cooler, softer and of course cheaper in the long run. I use a mix of imse vimse and bloom and nora.

TipseyTorvey · 09/03/2020 08:26

I think the result of this cobra meeting will just be more 'wash your hands and sing'. They won't do anything until they absolutely have no choice. I'm really annoyed that they won't say exactly where the cases are which takes away my decision to take the kids out of school once it's in my area.

hankyspanky · 09/03/2020 08:26

Morning all!

I've still not had time to read up on the last thread on the replies to my gardening question and all the helpful replies. I'll get round to that today hopefully.

Anyone asking about hand sanitiser, I have a link for a company that sells it in 5L containers. I've used them for a while and they've always been reliable and deliver on time. If anyone would like the link please PM me. Please note, I am in no way affiliated with this company!!!

Can anyone recommend any decent powdered soya milk? Thanks

FloggingMoll · 09/03/2020 08:27

Morning everyone, de-lurking temporarily. Angry at myself this morning for succumbing to mild panic and buying a bottle of Calpol and nappies - all things I bought months ago around no-deal nonsense. Got dirty looks in my local supermarket and found myself talking to the toddler loudly exclaiming that the stuff was for nursery.

Employer not taking it seriously at all - I'm a self-employed copywriter. Pointed out they were holding a meeting today to discuss school closures. It "won't happen" and definitely "won't happen here" (Wales). Feeling pissed off and judged but the latter is my own fault. Should've stayed out of Tesco!

hankyspanky · 09/03/2020 08:32

Just to quickly add, I've deliberately not posted the link on this thread as I don't want any of the profiteers seeing where its available.

Its disgusting the prices some people are charging for hand sanitiser on ebay and amazon. I know there was talk of prosecuting anyone hiking up the ridiculous prices but, I don't know if thats going to happen or not.

Personally I think they should just be shot, it saves on resources Grin

CookiesAreForEatingNotStoring · 09/03/2020 08:32

Thanks for sharing the kittens photo. Brought a smile to my face. Well done to mummy cat.

Appreciation too for the gardening book suggestions. I’m normally a library kind of girl but maybe I should invest in my own copy. Normally I like sharing, at the moment I’m not so keen!

At a recent Sustainable Sewing Circle, people were making reusable sanitary pads. It was fairly easy if you can use a sewing machine. I can find the pattern if anyone wants it, although I’m sure there are plenty online.

So starts a new week. Let’s see what this one throws at us.

Puppycorn · 09/03/2020 08:37

Morning y’all,
The thread is going so fast I couldn’t catch up much 😂 still someone asked for Bombay potatoes recipe - found the one in glebe kitchen is closer to authentic one glebekitchen.com/bombay-potatoes-restaurant-style-bombay-aloo/

@ofwarren the kitties are so cute .. showed it to dd who is all gooey eyed about them .. tiny 🐯 they are

dd is off school for two days as she has an upset tummy. Dh is at home too. I’m just hoping the meeting has some proper outcomes instead of bordering on uncertainty.

Regarding tropical gardening, I know a bit as I’ve done lots of gardening with mum in India so may be I can give my inputs if it’s anything relevant to what I know.
