Thread 12!

I can't seem to carry over the clicky links in the OP of the last thread. Can anyone else?

@minesapinotplease I wish my work were taking this precaution. Not even just for pregnant people but for anyone else deemed more at risk. There is a gentleman on my team whose wife is currently undergoing chemo for example. I'm sure he doesn't want to have to wait until there is a case in the office to be told he can wfh.

The daft thing is the company encourage reduction in travel and wfh etc from time to time to reduce carbon footprint - shame they don't care about peoples health as much. We're a large employer too (global, 5k+ staff in the UK alone) so I did think they might take a stronger stance on this.

@NatoPMT poor pup! Flowers

NatoPMT · 10/03/2020 13:35

Thanks @MinesaPinotPlease I’ve just sent that to my pregnant friend to persuade her to get signed off. She’s a school Dep Head and is frightened by this - I feel so bad for her

katienana · 10/03/2020 13:37

Posted on another thread but didn't get much response.
Panicking a bit here. Just heard from Dh who is in another city that 13 days ago he had contact with someone who is now a confirmed case.
111 have told him to self isolate for the next day and if hes ok then fine to carry on as normal.
Obviously I am scared that he has passed it to me or our kids and that we could be spreading it asymptomatically everywhere we go. I have weekly hospital appointments so I could have spread it there. I dont have any symptoms.
I'm going to ring hospital as I have an appointment tomorrow and take it from there.
At the same time the person may not have had it when my husband was in contact so it could be worrying about nothing.
Any words of advice? Husband is staying away tonight to watch for symptoms. Wtf do I do

84TinsOfBeans · 10/03/2020 13:38

@DysonFury re. Goodies

one prepper said on a previous thread that they hid the treats in their young children's bedrooms in a noisy bag so they couldn't get to them in the evening.

For me, as long as I don't have them in my normal kitchen cupboards I can forget they are there

Re: festival bible
@Mrsemcgregor I like the ideas of a festival bible. On that note I wonder if the festivals will be cancelled. I'm booked to Greenman.

@rhij86 are you and your colleague who has chemo in a union?

84TinsOfBeans · 10/03/2020 13:40

@katienana can you find out more about the person who is a confirmed case? Like how long they've had it?

NatoPMT · 10/03/2020 13:40

@katienana, it sounds like he’s going to be ok, he’s only got one more official day to present with symptoms ❤️

rhij86 · 10/03/2020 13:41

@84TinsOfBeans nope, no unions recognised by the company. Wish I was a member anyway though so I could get some advice :-\

I also think that unless this pretty much dissapears overnight (not likely if they reckon our peak is still due to happen in the summer) then I can't see how they wouldn't be cancelled - could you imagine? We usually go to Download but haven't booked this year as it would be about 2 weeks before my due date.

preponderings · 10/03/2020 13:44

What about swimming pools?

Just got signing up details for swimming lessons. It's held in a small school pool and two parallel classes of 5. Kids who have earlier lessons can come early or stay after so not as busy as a public pool. The chlorine will kill it off, right?

Moodykat · 10/03/2020 13:44

Radio 4 is talking about prepping right now - not sure who they have on but she is giving prepping info. Have only just turned it on!

AuntImmortelle · 10/03/2020 13:46

6th person to die in the UK just announced on Radio 4. Very sad.

MotherOfDragonite · 10/03/2020 13:48

Can anyone confirm how quickly a school can legally deregister a child for non-attendance?

I am considering keeping my daughter at home from next week if no action has been taken to close schools, but I am really worried as she loves her school so much, we are so happy with it, and it is very oversubscribed.

itsnotjustflu · 10/03/2020 13:52

Oh how sad. I fear it's going to get a lot worse

Just seen this - www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8095569/Nottingham-Forest-owner-Evangelos-Marinakis-reveals-contracted-coronavirus.html

It's going to be everywhere soon :( If it isn't already

Sprayitall · 10/03/2020 13:52

Name changed and long time poster.
@katienana Hope he is given all clear. Just one more day xx

For others - Sad about the 6th case. The school guidance says no closing of schools even if someone tests positive

Sprayitall · 10/03/2020 13:53

@MotherOfDragonite same with me. I will just allow this week may be (there is a local case though)

itsnotjustflu · 10/03/2020 13:54

@MotherOfDragonite this I'd also like to know. My DS also adores school. Talks about it enthusiastically every day. He's been breaking my heart these past few weeks

katienana · 10/03/2020 13:55

Thanks guys. I believe the case was confirmed positive in the last 24 hours. More I'm reading more likely it seems to be 5 days incubation and 14 days is the extreme.
So glad I have my stocks though just shows how quick you can be put into isolation!

MotherOfAllNameChanges · 10/03/2020 13:58

Hi all I'm new here.
What's on a prepper's shopping list then?

Justmum89 · 10/03/2020 14:00

Figures are going to be late today 😭

MissusMaker · 10/03/2020 14:03

Like many of us I was feeling twitchy this morning and following the news out of Italy and images of empty shelves locally I was tempted to add to my already adequate stash of store cupboard food. Instead I pulled everything out (I had stocked up back in January) and made a list of what I've got with Use By dates. It was very reassuring.

wheresmymojo · 10/03/2020 14:03

I thought they said the whole point of reporting at 2pm on the previous days cases was that it meant the announcement would always be made on time Hmm

Funkycats · 10/03/2020 14:06

@MotherOfAllNameChanges take a look around this board and the brexit board too. There are many threads covering your question.
Basically, think what you'd need for 3 days - all meals and snacks, plus usual medication and toiletries. Once that is done you can multiply that for however long you'd like your stores to last.
A 3 day buffer means you'd be out of the way during any more 'panic buying' events, and gives you time to think.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 10/03/2020 14:08

Hi all I'm new here.
What's on a prepper's shopping list then?

Extras of whatever you normally eat, from beans to jars of olives. Cleaning products and toiletries. It also depends if you’re prepping for Brexit, the virus or for general disruptions, such as bad weather, where you might need candles. Just don’t get caught up with buying things you don’t normally use and concentrate on the food you would miss the most. Pop over to the prepper boards in Brexit for more ideas.

Funkycats · 10/03/2020 14:08

Ahhh @MissusMaker, I need to do exactly that!
I gave away a bit of my toilet roll stash today, and some washing up liquid to a friend, along with a light hearted yet serious warning to get her act together

wheresmymojo · 10/03/2020 14:10

@MotherOfAllNameChanges

It's also worth going back to the first two or three threads on the Preppers board when we first started talking about prepping back in January...

Just attended my very large GP practice for my B12 injection. I have asthma, COPD and take immunosuppresants for autoimmune disease. No sanitiser anywhere so used my coat to open doors, feeling slightly anxious now.
