Thread 12!

I can't seem to carry over the clicky links in the OP of the last thread. Can anyone else?

UPDATE on coronavirus (#COVID19) testing in the UK:

Today's figures will be published later this afternoon.

We are working hard to provide you with the latest information and will tweet this out as soon as possible.

rhij86 · 10/03/2020 14:12

@30daysoflight that's awful! Although I know quite a lot of places including hospitals are having problems with people stealing the sanitiser!

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 10/03/2020 14:14

Be careful Funky cats, I made the mistake of telling a friend I would never see them go without, if things got really bad during Brexit. This was also while telling them to prep. Turns out they “didn’t bother” because they weren’t going to stop their treats “I knew you’d look after me* Angry

MotherOfAllNameChanges · 10/03/2020 14:14

Thanks @T0tallyFuckedUpFamily Smile

Effieray · 10/03/2020 14:15

I think I will take my son out of school from next week also. I am judging it day by day; it's a balance between not getting fined and ensuring he is still safe (and I am). I am hoping that the tide will turn before then, that other people will start taking their kids out en masse and fines won't be applied. What I imagine will happen is we (Preppers) will be the first ones to do so.

MinesaPinotPlease · 10/03/2020 14:15

@NatoPMT

Glad to help.

My employer has been totally on the ball. Updating restrictions almost daily and were quick to put all those coming back from Half term trips to Italy under a 14 day obligatory stay away from work period. Access cards were blocked.

In addition to pregnant ladies other staff with serious underlying conditions are also now all on compulsory WFH.

Meeting sizes are also limited now.

Am personally expecting an all out WFH decree for everyone within 2 weeks.

So glad I prepped and do not have to you out. As a family We have cancelled all weekend plans for March.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 10/03/2020 14:16

You’re welcome. Please keep to the prepper advice, unlike me Blush, and don’t tell people you’re a prepper or you’ll be pestered to share by those that refuse to build up a two week or whatever, larder, because “it’s only a cold/flu, more people get knocked down by cars, bla bla bla”. Hmm

Ticketyboop · 10/03/2020 14:18

Does anyone know how to translate German? Austria's civil protection dept has issued a template shopping list for 2 weeks of supplies, but i could only google translate the webpage, not list Hmm

Funkycats · 10/03/2020 14:20

I know you're right totally and I was very careful how I worded it (she doesn't know we prep, only that we keep our larder fuller than she does)

BBC are reporting that BA staff have been asked to take voluntary unpaid leave:

BA asks staff to take unpaid leave
Tom Burridge

Transport correspondent, BBC News

British Airways has sent an email to all of its staff asking them to take voluntary unpaid leave, after cancelling all flights to and from Italy until 4 April

Other airlines have taken similar measures.

The BBC has not yet seen the email to staff but a number of sources at the airline have confirmed it has been sent.

One source said that different departments were being offered different lengths of unpaid leave, ranging from a month to a year-long career break.

rhij86 · 10/03/2020 14:22

@ofwarren thanks for the updated figures. Hope you and your family are doing ok.

Notstrongandstable · 10/03/2020 14:23

Just a heads up as bout Vit D supplements. I watched the Dr John Campbell video on this topic and the evidence is very good that a 10 microgram daily supplement can reduce your chance of catching respiratory tract infections and also if you do catch them, reduce the severity.
I'm generally scathing of supplements but this is one that is worth taking in northern climates. At this time of year many of us are deficient already

Sanblasamor · 10/03/2020 14:24

@dysentery that is my problem also. I've discovered that I can't keep stocks of biscuits, chocolates, crisps or other treats because I just eat them every day and have actually put on weight 😩

I'm going to have to get snacks in for DC which are things I don't like as clearly I have no self control whatsoever.

I am.govenor of a outstanding special school academy. We honestly care about our kids welfare above all else.

bobbbbby · 10/03/2020 14:29

Tesco just cancelled my complete delivery that was scheduled this evening due to ' internal technical error' They said I have to go on once delivery time has passed, re-add it all and re-book a new delivery slot :-( Never had one cancelled before in the 3 years I've been using it

NatoPMT · 10/03/2020 14:31

Loving all the name changes. Sprayitall 😂😂

I might change to Killitwithfire

Thanks for the numbers update

Had a good google and and it seems I’d be very very unlucky to catch it off the dogs fur. Possible but extremely unlikely

My friend: the hospital drive through won’t test him, said to go to GP

He’s not high enough risk due to no overseas travel despite his symptoms

This has made me realise how much must be under the surface, icebergs and all that

Thank you for the vitD tip too

Heartyhooker · 10/03/2020 14:31

My GCSE German was 30 years ago, but broken down into sections: many types of bread, meat and fish, dairy, fruit and veg then fats. I think next categories are herbs and sundries. Last one is drinks, suggesting 21l in total 14 water and 7 fruit juice. I think zwieback means twice baked and is probably crackers

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 10/03/2020 14:32

I am.govenor of a outstanding special school academy. We honestly care about our kids welfare above all else.

I honestly believe that you couldn’t do your job and your staffs jobs, without caring. It’s a tough gig and I, for one, appreciate the dedication the staff show to our children/young adults. Thank you.

NatoPMT · 10/03/2020 14:32

Any idea what a children’s dose of vit D would be?

rhij86 · 10/03/2020 14:34

@natopmt your poor friend! I wonder if they are being told they are not a high enough risk because the hospitals etc are limited to how many tests they have, therefore have to prioritise for the 'most likely' cases?

AmelieTaylor · 10/03/2020 14:38

@HasaDigaEebowai

Re your sister - Doctors surgery have told her to go in to see them

I think that’ll be standard for those symptoms. Hopefully kept away from other patients though! I think someone is going to have to have had a high temperature for a few days before they consider Covid

I hope it is ‘just a cold’ and they’re all well soon 🌷

Sprayitall · 10/03/2020 14:40

@NatoPMT Lol at my name change . the kids dosage of vit d otc is 400iu

Sprayitall · 10/03/2020 14:41

I was expecting a really big rise in numbers today to be honest. I'm surprised we are relatively similar to yesterday.

@Effieray looking at the numbers increase I think we will next week as well. Although I had half expected it to be this week.
