Thread 12!

I can't seem to carry over the clicky links in the OP of the last thread. Can anyone else?

At LAST... some ideas for support that will actually help the people who will need it the most

This is the first relief I’ve sighed since the general election - now they have to make it work in practice

Welliamnot... Wow, brilliant map!

MotherOfDragonite · 09/03/2020 23:57

Is he actually taking any serious preventative measures at all, though, @Facingtheunkown? It doesn't seem so to me.

Incoming travellers from Italy and other at-risk regions are not even being temperature checked or given information at our airports. Large events are going ahead. Schools are not being closed -- in fact they are being encouraged to remain open even when they have confirmed cases of coronavirus in the school population! They've said that people with respiratory illnesses and fever will "probably" be asked to stay at home for 7 days. But not yet! This is despite knowing that we now have cases of community transmission here!

AmelieTaylor · 09/03/2020 23:58

@BanKittenHeels I hope you get to come home when you should 🤞🏼You’re a complete ⭐️ going into that Please take care of yourself 🌷.

Drop in to say ‘Hi’ if you can x

Facingtheunkown · 10/03/2020 00:01

Doesn't seem like it to me I would rather be proactive than reactive... But it's the medical people isn't it.

MotherOfDragonite · 10/03/2020 00:14

A relative of mine is a doctor who works on public health and she is seriously concerned by what is happening (and not happening) here. Many medics are.

JustMeAndMyTins · 10/03/2020 00:33

@NatoPMT YESSS! Love that phone shopping idea! Also - I love your husband’s contributions to prep ideas!

@BanKittenHeels Hope none of it is needed. Much respect to you for walking into this when we’re all trying to get away. 🙂

JustMeAndMyTins · 10/03/2020 00:49

This is sobering. We’re not the target audience but I wish the ‘just flu’ brigade would read it.

ItsNotJustTheFuckingFlu · 10/03/2020 00:51

Is it possible to read the telegraph article without paying for a subscription? I'm trying to reduce the number of subs we have or I'd have signed up.

MinesaPinotPlease · 10/03/2020 05:15

DS is sick so I had to go and pick up a prescription yesterday. Thanks to these threads I bought my handgel weeks ago but asked the pharmacist how they were managing.

Interestingly she told me that they had been told that from here on out it was going to be very hard to get new stock as there is a shortage of one of the main ingredients which is made in China.

She also said there is a supply issue for the small plastic bottles and they expect future deliveries to be in glass bottles so suggested holding onto empty small handgel bottles when they are empty.

PlentyofMFPeas · 10/03/2020 06:06

Urgh. I keep thinking I've made some ‘safe spaces’ then realising I’ve made them potentially ‘unsafe’ again.

Outside clothes (anything worn outside outside the house) aren’t ‘allowed’ on the beds. Hand washing before bed. I have some ‘inside only clothes’. I put clean bedding on the bed (again) last night. I’ve started wearing a sleep mask (at first to block out some street lighting - window can’t be covered) & now it also helps me to stop rubbing my eyes in the sleep. But just realised I’ve been putting it on my bedside table and as that’s a painted surface it has been dusted but not cleaned with dettol. And I worse the ‘inside only’ t shirt to bed last night - but didn’t consider the ‘not been in the house untouched for 9 days’ things I’d been handling yesterday🙄🙄 so now the best isn’t a ‘safe space’. I’m a fidgety sleeper and always have my hands around my face. 🤯

Then realised all the stuff I’ve had in the spare room for 9 days+ would be ‘exposed’ if my (adult) niece sleeps in there when she comes to stay in a few weeks - but it seems rude to ask her to sleep on the sofa when there’s a bed in the spare room. She’ll think it’s weird if I don’t explain why I don’t want her use the spare room and she’ll think I’ve lost all my marbles if I do explain. She lives in London and has fallen for the ‘its a mild flu if you get it’ bullshit. (There’s nowhere else to move the stuff to either)

I’m SO scared of getting this because of being in my 50’s with ‘underlying health issues’.

I know there are risks outside- I just want to feel safe inside my home. I’m wiping hard surfaces, spraying soft one. Washing/wiping everything - taking a lot of care & precautions and yet it’s so easy to screw it all up.

I’m not normally an anxious person At All, but I am so scared I’m waking up feeling physically sick in the mornings

The worst thing is patients dying in isolation. Their families have to say goodbye through glass. Utterly heartbreaking

So scary.

hankyspanky · 10/03/2020 06:14

@ItsNotJustTheFuckingFlu I translated an article written by Dr Manchinni, not sure if its the same as in The Guardian. I'm happy to pm it to you if you want it.

Another scary thread

KimonoKim · 10/03/2020 06:27

@Facingtheunknown

I usually slice them, then put in a ziplock bag. That way they can just be added straight to dishes. Such as Spag Bol...

One thing I have been doing more of is looking on the reduced aisles at supermarkets for certain veg with the same date bb that can be frozen. I got 3 packs of peeled and cut carrots for cheap and just transferred them all to a ziplock bag and chucked into freezer.

If your not sure what can and can't be frozen veg wise take a look on the frozen section of the supermarket to get some ideas

rhij86 · 10/03/2020 06:50

@wwwashyourhands RE patients dying in isolation - absolutely heartbreaking. I fear for my remaining grandparents (all approaching 90, all with underlying conditions) and thought wondered last night how people would sah goodbye to relatives if they were critical/dying. So so sad 😥

@natopmt - shop by phone idea is brilliant! Let's hope they use it!

AmelieTaylor · 10/03/2020 07:03

@VenetoResident

That link is terrifying. Absolutely terrifying.

I don’t have a twitter account.

Can anyone retweet to BJ, CW, & anyone else in GOVT PLUS LBC presenters etc. Not that I think Govt don’t know the facts, but because they need to read these individual accounts. Hopefully something they read will make them realise that PEOPLE Have to come first.

Their behaviour is disgusting.

We NEED to get this message out & I don’t know how else to do it.

They didn’t listen to China - because they thought it wouldn’t happen somewhere ‘naice’. It’s happening on our fucking doorstep.

It comes to something when going to Wuhan seems preferable to staying in the uk. 🤬😢

I am terrified and feel so hopeless.

Puppycorn · 10/03/2020 07:05

Morning y’all,
Dh and dd both are staying home. Dh is between contracts and getting a job that matches his skills before the chaos sets in seems bleak.
Haven’t sent dd to school yesterday and today. All staying home.

There was this confirmed case visiting the surgery the other day (the gp surgery is walkable distance from home and school, they won’t tell when was it so literally half of the neighbourhood is panicking because it’s the only pharmacy for our area and everyone pops in often. This withholding information has many consequences - Like it doesn’t help even if people want to self isolate as a precaution anyway) I’m not confident to send dd to school and in one way glad dh can stay home. I can’t get a decent sleep and this worry is all too much to handle.

Posharmchairs · 10/03/2020 07:09

Morning all,

So many posts to catch up on.

Thank you @bellinisurge for the tip on turning the very mushy fruit into leathers. I don’t have the liner for my dehydration trays and wondered if greaseproof paper would be okay?

I’m so worried for my last remaining grandparent. Very elderly, had pneumonia this winter. Will swallow everything the bbc says that Borris has it all in hand.

I do a monthly order of washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, shampoo etc from a “green” company. Do you think I’d be wise to order next months early? We are extremely strict spreadsheet budgeters in this house so it would be quite a thing.

I can’t stress enough how impressed I am with my dehydration machine for condensing lot of veg into jam jars.

Also, finally got those eggs out the tray! So frozen cubes of eggs ready to defrost if we have to self isolate and small demands pancakes or baking,

Off to Waitrose today, I’m now scared about seeing bewildered old people as there are “regulars” I see on a monthly basis who are so lovely with my dc. I hope I don’t find myself navigating soap for them but will be mindful to look out for anyone needing support.

Puppycorn · 10/03/2020 07:13

That’s so scary to see people dying in isolation. No one in this world should die like that. If I think of our situation that’s getting even more scary as we don’t have anyone living here. I have friends, but even in good times they won’t pop around for a tea.

Facingtheunkown · 10/03/2020 07:19

Waves to Piers Morgans wife!. He said she's brought a chest freezer 😂

hankyspanky · 10/03/2020 07:21

Morning @AmelieTaylor don't worry I, and a lot of other people are retweeting everything to all of the people you mentioned.

I've been following this since December when reports first started coming out of China. I tried to warn my friends and family there was something coming and was laughed at and ridiculed.

They are not laughing now sadly.

Facingtheunkown · 10/03/2020 07:21

Kimono thank you.

Facingtheunkown · 10/03/2020 07:28

Mother

I wish those medics like your friend wrote to chief medical officer etc, made fuss, went to guardian.
I see even where I work, senior staff don't work with students so even in education setting they are removed from students habits and the reality.
I bet its similar with senior medics.

Mrsemcgregor · 10/03/2020 07:37

Good morning all,

This morning I am going to Aldi, hoping to pick up some cleaning supplies.

I’m working on the premise that we will probably get it at some point and we’ve planned that we need to slow the spread through the family so that we are not all ill at the same time.
We’ve decided that if it’s the kids that get it first I will nurse them in their rooms and DH will avoid them. Then in theory I will get it next and DH can look after me then hopefully I will be well enough to look after him when he gets it. But we need to practice good barrier nursing, so I want some additional bleach/dettol/zoflora/whatever I can get!!

I’ll report back on stock levels for those that are interested.

rhij86 · 10/03/2020 07:44

@puppycorn sounds like keeping dc off school is a good idea. Hopefully with all of you at home you can relax a little and catch up on some rest.
