Thread 12!

I can't seem to carry over the clicky links in the OP of the last thread. Can anyone else?

@AmelieTaylor
What a lovely way to look at it. I will now smile every time I hear them. I think my brain is in constant negative mode at the moment with all this going on. I need to look for those positives more. Thankyou for pointing that out ❤

AmelieTaylor · 09/03/2020 20:42

@hankyspanky. I don’t think I can handle anything more scary!!

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 09/03/2020 20:42

Looking at the screenshot of economic forecast posted earlier, I predict that the irony of this is that China will emerge much less damaged than Europe and the US because we're doing fuck all to stop it. The fixation with protecting the economy before the people will result in greater damage, I think.

@BanKittenHeels, it must be such an anxious time for you waiting for it all to kick off at work on top of existing workload.

Readyme · 09/03/2020 20:46

@Legoandloldolls we have the Palmolive kids foaming hand wash as back up for DD if we need to use it we will also carry a bottle of water to rinse her hands.

GruffaloStick · 09/03/2020 20:47

I've been lurking here regularly for a while now and wanted to pop on to day thank you to everyone who has posted such calm and rational advice. I'm prepped for a 2/3 week isolation but still feeling very nervous as I have two close family members who are severely immunosuppressed (DM & DB) and a germ covered toddler attending nursery

Does anyone have a source for the Italy stats, particularly hospital admissions. I've searched Google but not finding anything and it would be really helpful to convince people close to me who are convinced this is just a big fuss about a mild flu Hmm

preponderings · 09/03/2020 20:54

Probably the wrong thing Amelie! I said I hope not, but if they do catch it they will probably be more ill than they (DC) or Daddy or me would be. That's why we're not going to see them for a bit.

They usually take public transport and there have been several cases in our nearest city where they would have to change so have decided not to visit for now.

Swimbikerunmummy · 09/03/2020 20:56

The whole of Italy is locked down now!

pemberlyshades · 09/03/2020 20:58

I can't believe Italy has had to do this! I never thought I'd see something like this in my lifetime

hankyspanky · 09/03/2020 21:00

OMG now the whole of Italy is locked down.

Surely to God our government will do something????

ooopsupsideyourhead · 09/03/2020 21:02

Just spoken to DF on the phone, I was assuming he would be in the “its Just flu” camp (ex army, generally grumpy, not in to catastrohising) and that I would have to really press home my point about getting his house in order, But, he was refreshingly prepared. Has planned to stock his freezer and cupboards tomorrow (he even said “I’m retired, I can go to 50 shops if needs be) and is prepared to hunker down. But not prepared to do it yet... He is 67 and has asthma but is in very good health, so I am hopeful he will weather the storm. I’m more concerned for my FIL/MIL (dementia,
Lifetime smoker and high BP for him and MS for her) but they say they are also stocked up and ready to pull up the draw bridge. 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽

hankyspanky · 09/03/2020 21:03

Press conference!

Italy's case numbers jumped by 1797 in one day.

Conte is not happy with the trend in case numbers and how citizens behaved last weekend.

ALL Italy is now a "red zone".

We cannot leave our house unless for groceries or work, eg essential.

Can you people read my messages or is it just being overridden by new ones? I have no idea..

Puppycorn · 09/03/2020 21:09

@hankyspanky omg..that sounds horrible.

WelliAmNot · 09/03/2020 21:14

I’m unsure whether this is any help to anyone, I saw this on a thread somewhere (can’t remember where)... It’s a map that has a few of the confirmed case locations. Not sure if it’s 100% accurate for all, but it is correct for a few of my local cases

This video on youtube is helpful & quite calming in one way - can't link it properly but search
'exponential growth and epidemics'
using data to March 6th.

tryingtoprep · 09/03/2020 21:36

Horrible thinking about older people being so scared. I'm younger with an underlying condition. It's hard enough for me but must be even worse for them. The government and media message of its "only the elderly". Like they're not important, and as if they don't watch or read the news. I'm so worried for my relatives. They're in denial mostly but it's probably because of fear.

From what I gather a serious case has more chance of survival with early treatment, and presumably mild cases are less likely to progress with early treatment. It's a concern if people are being refused tests.

If the government's hoping to delay until the summer, that's not so good if we get more heatwave type summers. A fever in a heatwave scares me. I just wish some measures were taken now. No vague talk of considering doing something, might do this, possibly do that. Platitudes.

Legoandloldolls · 09/03/2020 21:43

Two cases on the map in Villages near me. I didnt know about one of them, the other was national news

mumoftwodc · 09/03/2020 21:44

@NatoPMT can you recommend a company for the reusable sanpro? I've been thinking about this for a while.

ViolaTricolora · 09/03/2020 21:44

Update from the Netherlands, because it's to absurd not to share.
We have 321 confirmed cases and unfortunately 4 people have passed away. Of 90 of those it is not known how they got infected.
Our prime minister had a meeting with experts this evening, followed by a press conference.
The conclusions: people with any symptoms from Brabant (one of our provinces), please stay at home. All people from Brabant: please work at home if possible. For all others: keep washing your hands and don't shake hands. All good so far.

The press conference finishes. And our prime minister shakes hands with the head of the national institute for public health. Whoops

Sunshinesky1981 · 09/03/2020 21:49

It does seem to be turning quicker than expected now Sad But sadly not shocked at the amount of people who seem genuinely surprised that they are now finding it hard to get supermarket delivery slots, which is going to get even worse over the next couple of weeks.

NatoPMT · 09/03/2020 21:53

@mumoftwodc, sure.

Is anyone buying bottled water? On the one hand I think it might come in handy. But on the other hand if the taps go off then society will have absolutely collapsed and we’ll have bigger problems than water.

JustMeAndMyTins · 09/03/2020 21:55

@BanKittenHeels God, that broke my heart. Old people are my kryptonite. Cannot stop crying. Grappling with some physical and mental health issues alongside this so it’s fair to say I’m not emotionally robust right now! Thank you on behalf of the stranger for being a lovely human.
