Thread 12!

I can't seem to carry over the clicky links in the OP of the last thread. Can anyone else?

@HasaDigaEebowai. Did you notice what brand it was or take a photo. I’ve looked at far too many COSHH sheets etc so I can possibly let you know

@VenetoResident - so not a single person under 50 has died in Italy?!

Wow. Obviously knew it was mainly hitting the older age groups, but there have been deaths of younger people elsewhere, including quite fit people.

Though if you read the link posted by @mybrainhurtsalot

threadreaderapp.com/thread/1236933818654896129.html

It sounds like that might change soon with all the ill doctors.

That link is utterly fucking terrifying.

@Hankyspanky your post at 19:14 is a good idea! Your earlier post is spot on too and although I’ve known our politicians are ALL utter fucking cock wombles for a long time. I didn’t think they’d be this utterly callous!!

It is indeed ‘beyond belief’

💐I was sad reading your post earlier about your friends/family in Italy, your latest post is upsetting. I hope they all stay well xx

As for your mum. I’m glad she has your siblings and I hope they can convince her to stay home & keep herself safe! I’m off to see my great aunt (90) tomorrow and try to convince her to stay home. Unfortunately my cousins (or whatever her kids are to me) are bery ‘it’s just a bad cold’ 🙄🙄

@just5morepeas. I keep hearing stories like that. It’s 🤯

@Riv12345. There’s no way in this little green earth you’d get me on a cruise -irrespective of where it’s going. That many people in a confined area & the risk of being quarantined. I think you’re mad. Someone in Guernsey having it, is the least of your worries IMO.

@Justmum89

I'm so sad that we already have 5 avoidable deaths at the hands of our government and their lack of response to this 😢 with many older family members it angers me that the lives of the elderly seem to be dismissed so disgustingly!

Couldn’t agree more ^

Happy birthday is somewhat annoying and I don’t want to sound like a Pollyanna, but try to think about how lucky you are that you can hear them & you’re all well 🌷

Big very safe virtual hugs to everyone who’d like one!! Scary times

sideorderofchips · 09/03/2020 19:45

Oh I know it's denial on an international scale it's just so damn frustrating. Next month we start tourist season over here and already locals are worrying about getting off the island and people are worrying about those coming here and potentially bringing it. Tourism is one of our big industries.

itsnotjustflu · 09/03/2020 19:46

thanks @fuckthiswind I'm going to ring in the am. Explain what I've heard about inhalers but that I really don't want to come into the surgery to be examined etc

NatoPMT · 09/03/2020 19:49

@BanKittenHeels - no probs

I had the same experience in Waitrose this morning. Seeing scared pensioners is really upsetting, to get to the end of your life, when you should be nurtured and looked after... to face this and the callous crap surrounding it - don’t worry, it’s only the old and I’ll that die, don’t worry, we’ll let it runs it’s peak quickly and get it over with

Rage rage rage then 😭😭😭

FuckThisWind · 09/03/2020 19:52

I know sideorder and obvs tourism played a big part in the escalation within Italy. Ski Season etc.

I'm in a seaside resort. We have quite a large proportion of our residents reliant on tourism. We have a large % of elderly residents.

We are all going to suffer with this. Thankfully, we can at least understand each others frustrations on here. I've given up elsewhere. This is basically my only place for support and understanding.

Flowers to you all.

Legoandloldolls · 09/03/2020 19:52

Anyone that cant get handgel, here is my 2p worth of advice. Look for foaming hand washes like this one. Notice they have a larger pump top and a little reservoir inside at the top of the pump?

It gives a mild watery soap that foams so you could wash hands I the car and wipe off with baby wipes. You can refill with any liquid soap. Fill 1/3 with liquid soap, 2/3 tap water and shake well. I has to be diluted soap to get the foam. I have being doing this to a Method foam hand soap for years for the kids as it's so much easier for kids to use

Hmm.. where are my photos?

AmelieTaylor · 09/03/2020 19:54

@BanKittenHeels. I’m glad you were able to help him He sounds like he’s getting himself sorted and hopefully if his daughter is making him jam I assume she’s looking after him🤞🏼But I would have cried too!

In Waitrose on Saturday morning I was the only person under 60 for the first half an hour. Mostly people were saying the newspapers were over egging it and that young people today were too precious and too overly dramatic. However, there was only cushell toilet paper left & a dismal supply of Dettol products and expensive bar soap 🤷🏻‍♀️ I did help one bloke (70’s I guess- so not old but looking confused!) get some wipes (he knew he wanted them he just didn’t know what kind)!). & assure him bar soap was totally fine - he didn’t need to swap to liquid soap. Lovely guy - hope he stays well

Keep yourself safe, especially at work 🌷

WishThisWasLangClegGin · 09/03/2020 19:57

It's in the local papers that a member of staff in Aintree Hospital has tested positive. They recently returned from Italy.

Staff who have been in contact with them are being told to self isolate and they are tracing patients.

WishThisWasLangClegGin · 09/03/2020 19:59

Sorry Aintrees in Liverpool

PlentyofMFPeas · 09/03/2020 20:00

@Legoandloldolls. I’m not sure that’s really the best idea is it? Soap loosens the virus and you need to rinse really well to wash it away. I’m not sure the soap will kill it or at least not quickly enough just being semi washed and wiped with normal wipes.

I don’t know for sure, but those are my thoughts.

If I couldn’t get hand gel I’d go for rubbing alcohol which is sold under various names.

sideorderofchips · 09/03/2020 20:00

I'm lucky that my mum in the UK is being prepared and my sils are preparing

And my collegue is of the same mindset so I have people who see it for what it is thankfully. But there is alot of denial and statistics on my fb I just scrolls past now

HasaDigaEebowai · 09/03/2020 20:02

@HasaDigaEebowai. Did you notice what brand it was or take a photo. I’ve looked at far too many COSHH sheets etc so I can possibly let you know

Its the home bargains own brand one. Its just called hygienic gel - produced by TJ Morris Ltd (which is the real name of Home Bargains) and made in China

Puppycorn · 09/03/2020 20:05

The problem now is, because it’s in the area and the confirmed case has visited the GP surgery, it means like he could have gone to any shops or petrol bunks nearby before he has gone to GP so the germ is in this area already. What do you all think we should do other than washing hands often? What rules will all of you enforce at your home if this happens? Will you go to work and send your children to school?

AlohaMolly · 09/03/2020 20:10

Like a PP, I live in an area of Wales that relies on tourism to survive and both my job and DPs business are tourism related. Oddly enough, DP has triple the amount of bookings for March - May as he did last year, which I reckon is because people don’t want to travel. Great for business... but I’m resigning myself to the fact that we’re going to catch it.

hankyspanky · 09/03/2020 20:14

@AmelieTaylor Thank you Flowers

I have just read the full article that was published by Doctor Macchini that your link mentions. It is even more frightening when you read the symptoms and understand the technical jargon.

DH's office have issued smart cards (to get laptops which never arrived) which can be used to work from home. Except it didn't work when he tried to log in. Anyone who wants to work from home is allowed to. They are removing every other chair in the canteen and organising 3 meal sittings so people are 1m away from each other!

DC asked earlier if their grandparents are going to die Sad

Legoandloldolls · 09/03/2020 20:24

I'm.going on the premise that with four kids we will all catch it in my house on the first round.

They attend four different schools and my eldest is in GCSE year so very reluctant to keep him off. The only vulnerable person I have close contact with is my mum so I might distance myself from her. But that's hard knowing when to do that.

I am using gloves to fill my car, wipe down trolley handles, gel my hands everytime I get in the car, wash hands as I come in. Wash hands after doing laundry, loo, before food prep etc.

More than that one odd detail of doorknobs, canisters I dont think I can cope with. This will be a long running outbreak and I dony have the stamina to disinfect six people clothes etc. Plus I really dont like the ideas of aerosol dettol

YoursTunbridgeWells · 09/03/2020 20:25

@BanKittenHeels I think I had better avoid Waitrose. I just don't know how I'd cope seeing eldery people confused and afraid. It's absolutely heartbreaking. And hideous that the most vulnerable are being tossed aside as worthless by our Government.

It seems anyone who is older, or anyone with any sort of health issue - even minor asthma (whether child or adut) is being thrown to the wolves. I expect the Government believe this will reduce the NHS burden.

AmelieTaylor · 09/03/2020 20:29

@HasaDigaEebowai

Sorry, it’s not one I’m familiar with and as it’s made in China I can’t locate a COSHH Sheet for it.

I wouldn’t risk it being high enough % myself.

Swimbikerunmummy · 09/03/2020 20:31

@sideorderofchips I’m in Guernsey. We still have the same denial here, even now the case is confirmed. Latest Gov informatIon shared is that the virus can’t be spread when people are asymptotic. We all know that’s not true.

Justmum89 · 09/03/2020 20:34

@AmelieTaylor I had seen that link posted on Fb and sobbed reading it.

Why does no one with any power seem to be seeing what we all can 😢

AmelieTaylor · 09/03/2020 20:35

@preponderings

DC asked earlier if their grandparents are going to die

Poor little things! What on earth did you say?

AmelieTaylor · 09/03/2020 20:40

@Swimbikerunmummy

Where have they said that? Surely we can counter out & out lies ?!

@Justmum89

Because ‘there are none so blind as those who will not see’

In more modern language ‘as those that CHOOSE not to see’

sideorderofchips · 09/03/2020 20:41

@Swimbikerunmummy it's ridiculous isn't it?! Here they are going on about how everything is fine and planned for. Yet have barely done any testing. I know three people who came back from tenerife and one showed symptoms but no testing
