Thread 12!

I can't seem to carry over the clicky links in the OP of the last thread. Can anyone else?

@fuckthiswind

I had a phone call about exact same thing about 2 years ago. Not saying your surgery isn't chasing it up cos of virus though. They ask you questions about your asthma control, take your weight etc. I go once a year for a asthma review (but have to go to hospital to see consultant if it's not being managed.)

AmelieTaylor · 09/03/2020 17:57

@FuckThisWind

I suppose they’re most realistically covering their own backs by seeing anyone they haven’t actually reviewed in a long time. I suspect shoukd shit hit the fan not having reviewed you could possibly cause them issues and they might also be seeing (charitably) that you’re well prepared it (kess charitably) if you’re one patient they can stop giving inhalers to.

I’d go, but I’d try to take some precautions and lots of hand gel!

Have you looked any more at your options with regards to leaving your job?!

Hope you’ve enjoyed your day if not being coughed, sneezed over and generally not being in the firing line for bugs & bad behaviour 🌷

I noticed when I was in waitrose early Saturday morning, that they had all the students on the tills. Which is quite unusual for my Waitrose - they usually have the ‘more mature’ ones on, The young girl that served me was suffering from a bitIf a hangover and the poor kid was counting down the hours until home time so she could go home to bed - they’d literally just opened 😖🤣

Coughsyrupsucks · 09/03/2020 17:59

It’s just occurred to me that if the worst happens and this takes out all her grandparents (all in their 70s with a mix of asthma, COPD, Diabetes) and god forbid me (asthma) and her father. My daughter doesn’t have any contact details for any family or friends. She doesn’t have social media at all (her choice) so couldn’t even get hold of them that way.

She’d be all alone and no clue what the hell to do, or who to ask for help. So I’m going to message friends and ask if they would help and if they mind her having their details.

The situation in Italy March 9 2020. Taken from news conference so maybe not spot on (not great at Italian!)

Changes in 24 hours:

Dead +97

Positive people today (this is the number of infectious people so does not include those dead or healed) +1598

Healed +102

Total cases to date +1797

POSITIVE 6387 -> 7985
DECEASED 366 -> 463
HEALED 622 ->724

9172 cases to date

Neome · 09/03/2020 18:01

Really sorry to hear you’re feeling so scared puppycorn fingers crossed the headteacher is helpful.

hankyspanky · 09/03/2020 18:01

Todays figures from Italy are truly terrifying but I'm trying to keep it in context that now they are testing everyone, not just those showing symptoms.

VenetoResident · 09/03/2020 18:01

I'm sorry, I've not read the posts since this morning. Busy HE my two DC!

Galleyfm · 09/03/2020 18:01

Thank you @AmelieTaylor. I did look and don't know how I missed it. Shock doh!

VenetoResident · 09/03/2020 18:02

@hankyspanky Can you link to anything saying that? I've not seen anything to support that locally.

mybrainhurtsalot · 09/03/2020 18:02

Has this twitter thread from an Italian dr been posted already?

threadreaderapp.com/thread/1236933818654896129.html

I found the link via another MN thread.

From the same Dr, there was also this: mobile.twitter.com/silviast9/status/1236733304843522049

The graph shows a jump in the CFR to an estimated 6.4% as the hospitals are becoming overwhelmed with cases.

Teamed with the the link just posted by @Oxyiz it’s all building a very scary picture of what is likely to happen here v soon.

hankyspanky · 09/03/2020 18:05

@VenetoResident I've had that first hand from friends and family in Como and surrounding villages, I posted it earlier. I see you're in a different area so it may be different?

FuckThisWind · 09/03/2020 18:07

Totally agree @AmelieTaylor funny they asked if I needed any new relievers, but it must be on record that I only picked my latest one up last week. For all they know, it could be my only one. It isn't. I have 3. Because I try to keep one on me, one in the car and one at my parents.

FuckThisWind · 09/03/2020 18:08

Oh fuck. 5th death!

Come. On. Government!

VenetoResident · 09/03/2020 18:09

@hankyspanky are they in one of the regions that has been quarantined already for two weeks?

They tested the whole of Vo'
Twice!

But having spoken to doctors again today we still can't get tests.

hankyspanky · 09/03/2020 18:09

@VenetoResident I just read back my first post and I've not written it very clearly. In Lombardy they are testing anyone who is asking for it, whereas previously it was just people with travel history or contact tracing.

Sorry if that caused any confusion.

GalOopNorth · 09/03/2020 18:11

I honestly thing they are not going to do anything until it is too late.

The testing is nowhere near enough.

The cases are here, and they will know all about it when they start to hit the hospitals over the next couple of weeks.

We have pulled our DC from school until Easter and are homeschooling. School have been amazing as I am immune suppressed and DH is ex teacher.

I am vacillating between thinking I am overreacting and worrying we are not doing enough.

Utini · 09/03/2020 18:13

I haven't seen this posted yet. The government are considering asking anyone with even mild respiratory symptoms to self isolate. Possibly within the next 10-14 days. Personally I think they should do it now.

Among the 7985 positives:
• 2936 are in home isolation
• 4316 hospitalized with symptoms +759
• 733 in intensive care +83

Total in hospital = 5049 +842

Orangecake123 · 09/03/2020 18:21

The rising figures UK are scary- personally I think we will be hit worse than italy because nothing is being done deliberately.

I also overheard a conversation in iceland same "it's just the flu" script.

I came home for the weekend and shopped a tiny bit for her, mainly just couscous and quinoa but the queue took 20 mins in our local aldi at 9.15 in the morning.

Orangecake123 · 09/03/2020 18:22

*the same.

lachy · 09/03/2020 18:22

@FuckThisWind Sad

I agree. It's time for some significant action (actually its beyond time) and for this to be taken way more seriously

I make the fatality rate 1.5%

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 09/03/2020 18:22

It strikes me that a disproportionate number of people with serious underlying conditions are contracting this.

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 09/03/2020 18:23

I mean as a proportion of all cases. I know it's more dangerous for them but why so many in the first place?

GalOopNorth · 09/03/2020 18:25

I think that lots of people are contracting it, but those with underlying conditions are the first to get seriously ill with it. As per Italy, I think this is the start of a sudden acceleration of cases as very ill people pop up, finally get tested, then die of what is later confirmed to be Covid 19.

We are not picking it up because our testing is still closely focused on travel, when we now have people dying of it who have contracted it through community transmission.

Which according to published timelines of the disease was probably caught ‘in the wild’ nearly 2 weeks ago.

mybrainhurtsalot · 09/03/2020 18:28

Crikey, Veneto, thank you so much for keeping us all up to date. Each day the numbers look scarier - this seems to be a 10% increase in people in hospital (including intensive care), now up to nearly 3/4 of cases?
