Thread 12!

I can't seem to carry over the clicky links in the OP of the last thread. Can anyone else?

Sorry, I misquoted Prof Ferguson: article here ...

At age 75 with debilitating health, I have more or less been self isolating for 4 years

This sounds miserable. Is it worth it?

AmelieTaylor · 09/03/2020 15:54

Well, that just proves what most of us thought. BJ really does just think it should be allowed to take its course & the ‘collateral damage 🤷🏻‍♀️

I absolutely see all the deaths as on his shoulders.

If my 90 year old great aunt dies - (she’s currently very healthy, fit, running her own house, shopping etc, drives -safely, looks after her grand & great grandchildren and has two lovely little dogs and is a majorly important person in my life) But as is typical of her age, goes downhill quickly if she gets a cold etc I will be inconsolable and that bastard will know about it. I don’t know how, but he will

I don’t understand how anyone can be so fucking stupid & callous 😢. Bastard.

AmelieTaylor · 09/03/2020 15:59

@HopeClearwater. Did you really mean to sound so nasty?

What do you suggest someone with debilitating health does about it other than take care of themselves as best they can?

tryingtoprep · 09/03/2020 16:00

Elderly people do not need to stay home. Just wash your hands, keep calm & carry on.

Presumably that advice applies to the houses of commons and lords too. No more talk of closing Parliament because, as BJ, says, we need to just let it happen.

I blame the (lack of) opposition as much as our current government. Boris and co. wouldn't get away with doing pretty much nothing if we had any kind of decent opposition. The media too.

Very worried about my elderly relatives. Just spoke to another one. They have complete (misplaced) faith in the NHS's ability to cope. I don't want to upset or scare them so didn't mention the wise men protocol. At least they use hand gel when out.

NatoPMT · 09/03/2020 16:04

Utterlyfedup - I’m sorry, keep posting and talking 💐

Gal - that symptoms link was really useful, I was googling symptoms 5 mins ago due to a friend developing all but a cough (she’s 24 hours in so hopefully something else)

I’m sad to hear maybe a 4th person has died

AmelieTaylor · 09/03/2020 16:05

@Utterllyfedup

I realky hope this ‘panic buying’ is short lived and your orders can go back to normal.

If they deliver to you, you could try Ocado. They ‘pick’ from a warehouse rather than a store, so their stock is accounted for when you check out and won’t be sold to someone else.

Or do you have anyone who could go and get the bits you can’t get via delivery? If you’re near me,I’ll happily go for you (I’m in the SE kind of near Reading & often work
In Basingstoke, but drive all over that area. Just PM me or leave a message in the thread. It’s honestly no bother

Puppycorn · 09/03/2020 16:07

I don’t have the heart to send my child to school knowing there is a case near by and I am taking the risk. GP surgery refusing and not saying when the case visited them (the pharmacy is attached to the gp and dh went there early last week, I’m worried sick)

AmelieTaylor · 09/03/2020 16:10

Is there anything we can do about BJ’s bloody shitty attitude?!

Its just beyond belief that that Bozo is being allowed to just 🤷. Why isn’t someone making him listen to WHO & people like Neil Fergusson & John Campbell ?!?!

Puppycorn · 09/03/2020 16:14

@Utterllyfedup I can understand and it’s important that you take care of your health more. Sadly most of the population are in the same boat as yours, trying our best to provide for the family and to make ends meet. Being a low key prepper for long time has helped me in several occasions and has saved me from few. Panic buying - even if I wish to do is out of my tables because of similar financial situation but low key prepping has helped me a lot. Anyway welcome to this thread and I really hope you will have a good time here prepping, sharing ideas, recipes and what not.

Effieray · 09/03/2020 16:19

Do you remember measles parties? Mums used to take their kids to the house of an infected child in order to "hurry up the spread." That's what's happening now. Cheltenham festival, schools etc are gigantic measles parties. ☹️

pemberlyshades · 09/03/2020 16:24

WHO live tweeting a briefing now

Puppycorn · 09/03/2020 16:24

@Effieray What.. measles parties? I have never heard about that 😳

AmelieTaylor · 09/03/2020 16:26

Can someone please link to the live WHO Twitter

( I don’t do twitter, so need a link)

hankyspanky · 09/03/2020 16:31

@QueSera Thank you I'll have a look at that.

I cannot get my head around this governments attitude.

Speaking to friends and family in Northern Italy, they say that testing there is now for anyone, not just with travel history or symptoms. Italy is normally pretty lax in following any directives but I was just sent this message from someone in Menaggio on Lake Como,

"The town 1 minute from me issued a notice telling people that as of today the police will monitor people who leave their home for any reason other than work or "strictly necessary" and might file charges for those who don't comply.

I went to check their page since a neighbor said the town is "closed". Entry and exit road checks."

Thank you to everyone for being so lovely on these threads. I am sticking to here now for information and advice as there really are some vile people on the other threads!

AmelieTaylor · 09/03/2020 16:31

Thank you @pemberlyshades

TipseyTorvey · 09/03/2020 16:33

@Effieray I remember them, chickenpox parties as well. I think you've exactly described what BJ is hoping for 'let's just get this mess all out of the way so I can have a glorious brexit'. I am not really one for alarm but I'm starting to see why people might be taking their kids out of school now. Waiting for the govt to take action could be costly at the individual level.

Puppycorn · 09/03/2020 16:34

How will who’s suggestion affect the decision made in the U.K. ?

AutumnCrow · 09/03/2020 16:34

I think effieray means chicken pox parties

Effieray · 09/03/2020 16:43

😬 I do mean chickenpox. Thank you!

Mdryden69 · 09/03/2020 16:54

As a prepper I have often had a lot of valuable information and ideas from here over the years. But a lot of you people don’t seem to understand how a government works in a situation like this we are only a few steps from societal breakdown keeping the system going is the priority.

Galleyfm · 09/03/2020 16:59

Hi, I was just wondering if any of you that purchased the Defendol hand gel from Superdrug know the alcohol percentage please?

Puppycorn · 09/03/2020 17:06

Can’t the will writing be done online or should we definitely meet a person? Can anyone clarify?

RedLentilYellowLentil · 09/03/2020 17:10

Hey, everyone. Smile You guys have been busy - I didn't even see threads 10 and 11! Glad I didn't miss the kittens, @ofwarren. Smile

Things are getting a bit real, aren't they? I was in the supermarket this morning to find they had NO soap, NO loo roll, NO tissues, NO long-life anything, NO bottled water, and, most importantly, NO salt and vinegar crisps. I mean, wtaf?

There seems to be no hand sanitiser anywhere at any price. They told me in Boots that they hadn't been able to enforce the 2 per customer rule because people were getting too aggressive. Shock I must say, I'm shocked and a bit apprehensive about how fragile civilised society seems to be.

There are no cases here atm, but my doctor's is doing a smart thing, I think. Once people are being diagnosed in significant numbers, they are pairing up with another practice and one will be 'clean' - for people without a fever or any symptoms - and one 'dirty' for diagnosed patients and HCPs, and those with highly suggestive symptoms. So they will carry on offering appointments for everyone, all the way through this. I thought it was great (though could do without the stigmatising language).

I am trying to keep up with all the medical research coming out about the virus, but there's a hell of a lot of it!

Hope you're all doing OK.
