Thread 12!

I can't seem to carry over the clicky links in the OP of the last thread. Can anyone else?

@Allonym my gp surgery is closed until further notice and have cancelled all appointments this week. They are asking to call 111 for advice

bellinisurge · 09/03/2020 15:07

' "One of the theories is you could take it on the chin, take it all in one go and allow the virus to move through the population without really taking as many draconian measures.”

  • Boris Johnson '

There's a word for people who believe in that sort of thing.

Funkycats · 09/03/2020 15:08

@Effieray did he really say that?!

Effieray · 09/03/2020 15:09

I can think of many but I try not to swear!

Legoandloldolls · 09/03/2020 15:11

@Effieray OMG did BoJo really say that?

Conservatives wont get in again if us Brits see people dropping dead outside of A&E. Surely he must know that?

Fark.... Dh said this is my new hobby but I cant feel any comfort right now.

Re washing the clothes- if it gets fat stains out of clothing then the enzymes will break down the virus shell.

When we had noro I added a cap full of bog standard disinfectant to the powder draw. But I only do that if things are minging.

This is going to be a long road. Dont waste too much cash

Effieray · 09/03/2020 15:11

Yep. He said it a couple of days ago on This Morning

Justmum89 · 09/03/2020 15:15

My local news are reporting that a school ski trip left for North Italy on Saturday and is returning home today. Trip cut short because of the lockdowns. School are "looking forward to welcoming the students back" no mention of isolation 😡 the stupidity angers me.

Did Bojo say that? I've missed that. He clearly has no interest in the conservative government being re-elected!!

rhij86 · 09/03/2020 15:15

on twitter:

@realDonaldTrump
So last year 37,000 Americans died from the common Flu. It averages between 27,000 and 70,000 per year. Nothing is shut down, life & the economy go on. At this moment there are 546 confirmed cases of CoronaVirus, with 22 deaths. Think about that!

Now this one gives me the rage! Honestly how did the world ever get to the position where these two clowns were running the show Angry Angry

rhij86 · 09/03/2020 15:16

@Justmum89 "Trip cut short because of the lockdowns. School are "looking forward to welcoming the students back" no mention of isolation " fml...

FuckThisWind · 09/03/2020 15:17

If BJ is stood at a podium outside No 10 in a couple of weeks wringing his hands saying "these are dark days for us" I'll throttle the bugger!

Effieray · 09/03/2020 15:18

Both Johnson & Trump are muppets...

But unfortunately muppets who have their fingers poised over two buttons, deciding which to press.

One button is labelled "save the people."

The other button is labelled " save the economy."

Guess which one they're going to press?

Effieray · 09/03/2020 15:21

(Sorry, I am simplifying things; I know one impacts greatly on the other but at the end of the day people ARE the economy and I am angry.)

NatoPMT · 09/03/2020 15:24

Omfg at that arsewipe Johnson saying that.

That is what will result in the prediction 2 weeks ago that they would run out of beds and go Three Wise Men, leaving people to die when they aren’t prioritised for care

He’s a psychopath - the whole idea of delay is to reduce pressure on health care and understand how to treat

The man just does not care

GalOopNorth · 09/03/2020 15:25

I feel as though I am an unwilling victim of an unpleasant experiment.

How can he be watching Italy and thinking “Yes, bring it on”

We are socially distancing, hoping to avoid the peak. We are the lucky ones who are able to do this.

SeaToSki · 09/03/2020 15:25

For those with questions about laundry. I did a search on general corona viruses and came up with this advice for killing the virus on clothing.

Don't skimp on soap, wash at above 60 degrees and/or put in a dryer on high heat for 28 mins

So I am sending all the DC out in fleece jackets that can be put in the dryer without a problem and when they come in I just put them in for 30 mins. Everything else is being washed and dried as normal except I am putting two detergent pods in for big loads and I am doing it every day and not letting it build up/fester. I also dry almost everything in the dryer so I don't have to worry about shrinking things. The few items I can't out in the dryer are just not going to be worn for the next little while. (I live in the US so using a dryer is pretty essential)

Puppycorn · 09/03/2020 15:29

@Effieray hard truth isn’t it. It’s very hard for me to believe all this is happening around me.. very surreal and covid case walking into Gp’s..I don’t think I will take any risks from now on.. too stressful to even think about it

GalOopNorth · 09/03/2020 15:31

Nato, I quite agree.

I can’t believe it. I do believe it, but I feel kind of hollow inside. Extraordinary times.

And the figures are SO low because of the testing regime. I have said it before but bears repeating- Professor Neil Ferguson, lead mathematical modeller for disease spread in the U.K. said, when Italy (with a much better testing regime than us) had about 500 cases diagnosed that they probably had BETWEEN 80 000 and 100 000 cases in the population.

Drives me mad when people say ‘only 300 out of 60 million infected”

The number who have tested positive is NOWHERE NEAR the number who have it.

Which will soon (5-10 days) become very very clear as about 10-20% of those who have it reach the stage where they need help with breathing Sad

Funkycats · 09/03/2020 15:32

I need to get a life - I just watched the Boris Johnson good morning interview on YouTube.
He does not answer any detailed questions at all, and Philip and Holly really tried.
Like pp said above: he just doesn't care!

QueSera · 09/03/2020 15:32

@hankyspanky
About powdered soymilk, I've not tried this but it looks decent:

rhij86 · 09/03/2020 15:33

@gal0opnorth oh god I didn't know that RE tested cases VS actual cases. I mean obviously I knew the actual cases would be significantly higher but that much?! Christ on a bike...

GalOopNorth · 09/03/2020 15:36

That is what Prof Ferguson said. He is an expert in this.

The information about the progression of the disease day by day is from here:

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-covid19-day-by-day-symptoms-patients-2020-2%3famp

rhij86 · 09/03/2020 15:37

@gal0opnorth oh I believe you! I'm just shocked at how bad the numbers are, or more precisely shocked that I didn't realise how bad they were

Utterllyfedup · 09/03/2020 15:39

At age 75 with debilitating health, I have more or less been self isolating for 4 years. Certainly not up to supermarkets and now would probably get knocked over in the scrum. I have always had my groceries home delivered . However with this panic ( buying and behaviour), it is becoming more difficult. So yes panic buying is so selfish. A sign of human behaviour that is totally self first. I only buy what I need every two weeks, partly as funds don't allow more. The whole ethos disgusts me. I rest my case.

Justmum89 · 09/03/2020 15:40

4th Death just come through on breaking news 😢

Effieray · 09/03/2020 15:41

From the Cobra meeting this morning: (I paraphrase)

Elderly people do not need to stay home. Just wash your hands, keep calm & carry on.
