Thread 12!

I can't seem to carry over the clicky links in the OP of the last thread. Can anyone else?

If I worked in a medical
Centre id want the doors locked too - seems sensible to me. Partly for the risk of someone bringing CV in, but mainly to stop those people who think screaming, shouting & worse will get them an appointment.

AutumnCrow · 09/03/2020 14:20

How old is her baby, @Moonlight? That's worrying.

Legoandloldolls · 09/03/2020 14:22

I have frozen eggs in ice cube freezer bags. Also chopped up my wilted veg and frozen that to see how it turns out.

I caved and bought a O2 saturation monitor too. Trying to clean up and stay on top of my housework as well

Funkycats · 09/03/2020 14:22

Yes I agree amelie It's my doctors so I'm glad they are doing it.
The other 2 locally aren't though. According to this fb group they are being more sensible by not overreacting 🙄

bodgeitandscarper · 09/03/2020 14:22

@AmelieTaylor, thanks for the info re the washing powder. I don't think I could face soaking the laundry, so I'll have to hope a good wash will zap any contamination. God, there's so much much to consider with this stupid virus isn't there?

Mrsemcgregor · 09/03/2020 14:25

This maybe be/probably is a stupid question... but if soap kills viruses by destroying the lipid/fat membrane then does the detergent properties of washing powder not kill viruses?

Funkycats · 09/03/2020 14:26

We're washing stuff as normal, and hoping the soap and water do their thing. The only difference is that we charge upon our return home, and put clothing straight into the laundry.

AmelieTaylor · 09/03/2020 14:26

@ofwarren. Thanks 😊

@MoonlightMistletoe

tell her to try not to worry. It’s not generally ‘out of stock’ so she should be able to get some from their next delivery. I don’t know how much more expensive it is, but our boots keeps it behind the counter, so I’m sure they’d still have some as people are less likely to buy it all if they have to ask for it.

I’m
Not sure if you said how old your niece is, but if she’s old enough maybe starting to wean her would be a good idea and maybe getting in some 1st stage baby food.

Funkycats · 09/03/2020 14:26

*change

itsnotjustflu · 09/03/2020 14:26

@moonlight is there any available on amazon prime? I've not seen an issue in my area. Only soap, anti bac products and loo roll still out of stock....oh and that clothes powder mentioned on here

itsnotjustflu · 09/03/2020 14:27

and yes that's VERY worrying as that's the only nutrition a baby can have :(

CookiesAreForEatingNotStoring · 09/03/2020 14:28

We have oxygen sats monitors and have had them for years because my son has brittle asthma that gets very bad very quickly without many visible symptoms. The fingertip ones generally are quite good, I always check ours with one at the surgery/ward to see they are reading the same.

One word of caution though, cold fingers (and fidgety fingers) (especially children’s) can give false low readings. They are useful as one tool in assessing the severity of the situation, but can not replace instinct and the combination of visual and other information about the patient’s state.

Guacamole · 09/03/2020 14:30

New to this thread and haven’t read all the posts but I wash I was more of a prepper. Went to buy san pro today, first tried Boot and then Superdrug and they’ve barely got anything. I can but Always night time (I have Always they stink) or Tena pads but that’s it! Off to try my local supermarket now. Never occurred to me to stockpile san pro.

AmelieTaylor · 09/03/2020 14:46

@Funkycats 🙄🙄 Since when did preparing & making sensible decisions get referred to as panicking?! There’s been a ‘thought shift’ in this country & I don’t like it. Thank fuck people were more sensible during WWII or mist if us wouldn’t be here. This govt would have denied it was happening and bomb shelters wouldn’t have been built until you had a bomb land within 10ft of your house 🙄😖

@bodgeitandscarper I am only soaking the hand towels (and I bought a very distinctive set of tea towels to use as hand towels) as they’re easier to soak and dry)

Yes,there’s a lot to consider, that’s for sure. It’s so easy to try to do the right thing then re contaminate a surface straight away.

I’m pretty anal about kitchen & bathroom hygiene anyway, but this has my head done in already. Every time I think I have it nailed I see another source of contamination 😱

I’m not sure some things are going to survive months of this treatment - especially things like my car key fob 😫 Luckily as I’m still renovating there are a few things that are going to be replaced anyway so I’m not fussed how they react to the constant Dettol spraying (front door latches, taps etc)

@Mrsemcgregor. I think most of the ’Specialists’ I consider knowledgable/sensible seem to think regular washing should kill it. But they haven’t been able to do much testing as they’re not being given much of the virus to test/try to kill. Understandably it’s been going for testing of vaccines etc. (I don’t totally understand, one would assume there was more than enough to go around by now) but that’s my layman’s understanding from what one science bloke said on LBC.

Being in & out all day changing when we (especially I) come home isn’t practical, so I’m just keeping all outside clothes out of the bedrooms, wiping down hard chairs and using the Dettol all-in -one o the soft furnishings & car seats/hand bag etc.

Though it’s going to wear thin if we have to keep this up for months 😖

itsnotjustflu · 09/03/2020 14:47

If you have anyone doing your head in with the 'it's only flu' rubbish - pass this on to them. Although that still doesn't help the 'but it won't affect me' idiots.
What I'd like to see is some sort of medical evidence that the time frame it took to kill people in China and Italy was much shorter than that of flu. If you get my drift

He is only just 5months old so not weaning yet, I will have a look on Amazon Thankyou for the suggestion. It was a challenge getting formula before in our area so I'm hoping the shelves are restocked soon.

rhij86 · 09/03/2020 14:50

@MoonlightMistletoe hope you manage to find some!

Puppycorn · 09/03/2020 14:58

How many cases today.. 319 is it?

ooopsupsideyourhead · 09/03/2020 14:58

Will the figure of 319 be increased later today so you think? That was the picture at 9am, but the last few days they have released updates later than 2pm, some later than the main announcement too - Scotland for example released a few more cases yesterday evening.

Funkycats · 09/03/2020 15:02

allonym they are still taking pre booked appointments and phone appointments.

Puppycorn · 09/03/2020 15:03

I feel the numbers are slightly off. MK page reports second confirmed case while my GP surgery is closed as a confirmed case visited them. The comments showed the second affected person is thought to be the relative of the elderly gentleman who passed away .. but if you take the gp case does it mean there are 3 cases now ..
