Thread 12!

I can't seem to carry over the clicky links in the OP of the last thread. Can anyone else?

@tryingtoprep

DETTOL LAUNDRY CLEANSE

To kill viruses*
Soaking: add 1 cap to 2.5L of water and leave to soak for 15 mins

On the bottle and on the Tesco etc websites

pemberlyshades · 09/03/2020 13:49

They are having a SAGE meeting tomorrow (science advisory group for emergencies) then another cobra on Wednesday- maybe they need more scientific advise before proceeding?

tryingtoprep · 09/03/2020 13:50

@AmelieTaylor I was thinking I'd like Tedros, WHO chief, as our PM but yes John Campbell would be fab.

Furious our government taking a do as I say not as I do approach. Why won't the media challenge this? They want to close parliament but don't want the rest of us to make any changes to protect ourselves and our loved ones. Working from home where possible, being allowed to take children out of school without fines or loss of place. The government needs to lead by example. They work for us, they're funded by us!

rhij86 · 09/03/2020 13:50

@LittleSwede, @pemberlyshades that's something at least. I'm sure we're all far more comfortable with another COBRA meeting in 2 days (especially after a SAGE one!) rather than sitting on it for another week.

Puppycorn · 09/03/2020 13:51

I really hoped they will atleast have the option for parents to keep their children home if they wanted to.. but nothing like that? I just received an email from dd’s school saying they are aware of the virus in MK so choose to follow the guidance of washing hands etc and they think school closures not be proportionate and might cause unnecessary alarm .. I’m Super annoyed

LittleSwede · 09/03/2020 13:52

I am due at a work meeting think afternoon, some time has been set aside to discuss coronavirus and how our work will be affected. We're what used to be known as hospital teachers (although we rarely teach in hospitals nowadays) and the children we teach are very vulnerable. Hoping we might be able to teach via Skype or similar.

BlackeyedSusan · 09/03/2020 13:54

Morrisons have lots of loo roll, Asda hardly any.

Both out of hand gel, soap, cleaning depleted, Asda pasta and big rice pack shelves have gaps.

Cereal very gappy in Asda.

Puppycorn · 09/03/2020 13:54

@tryingtoprep rightly said.. it’s high time they do this

Neome · 09/03/2020 13:54

I'm sorry but I just have to get this off my chest. I read the Graun's summary of Govt update.

How absolutely bloody pathetic.

Urgent message arrived from school while typing. Apparently someone's got headlice.

LittleSwede · 09/03/2020 13:56

I'm really hoping that we'll be allowed to take children out of school a couple of weeks before Easter without penalty. Closing the schools would be even better if course but not sure that will happen.

itsnotjustflu · 09/03/2020 13:58

Crikey another on Wednesday. At least they're not waiting another week to discuss the viruses progress. I read on FB today that Spain isn't taking it seriously at all and those with CV are allowed to carry on as normal

LittleSwede · 09/03/2020 13:58

pemberlyshades didn't know about the Sage meeting, now hoping that things will move forward towards Delay at Wednesday's meeting.

Neome · 09/03/2020 13:59

Couldn't resist prepping for headlice feel free to give me a slap if I'm showing signs of hysteria.

itsnotjustflu · 09/03/2020 14:00

Also seen the worrying riots in Italian prison...... no doubt same would happen here

MoonlightMistletoe · 09/03/2020 14:00

Think we should go on strike

ofwarren · 09/03/2020 14:01

  1. Not as bad as feared.
RageAgainst84 · 09/03/2020 14:03

319 :(

RageAgainst84 · 09/03/2020 14:03

Oops sorry

tryingtoprep · 09/03/2020 14:03

Posted before I saw your reply @AmelieTaylor That's good, thanks. I think I'll buy some in that case.

I bought an extra box of latex gloves yesterday. Also some fennel tea. I can't remember if it helps the immune system, the respiratory system, or it's an anti-inflammatory but hopefully it will help boost my health in some way.

I've tried again to encourage my elderly relatives 70s and 80s) to avoid supermarket and public transport. They have faith in the NHS and think no-one would ever be turned away for treatment. I don't know how to protect them without scaring them. Would you spell out the wise men protocol if you were me?

rhij86 · 09/03/2020 14:04

@ofwarren so that's an additional 1,447 tested, with an increase of 46 positive cases, and 1 additional death compared to yesterday.

Puppycorn · 09/03/2020 14:05

Ok a friend has got a text from our GP that there is a confirmed case of covid in the surgery so they are cancelling all appointments today and closing the surgery. The schools are closer to this gp surgery. How do we even react to this?

Funkycats · 09/03/2020 14:06

It's just so tricky isn't it? Ranty post on my local Facebook group because medical centre's 'doors have been locked' to anyone who doesn't have a pre booked appointment.
So many of us can't just stop at home. I keep vulnerable people clean and fed. I don't know how they will be looked after if quarantine is enforced. My daughter works in hospitality, and is meeting tourists all day. Her staff are staying off, so more falls on her, but she's not the boss and can't close.
For us, maintaining hygiene and avoiding unnecessary mingling is the best we can do. (I'm pleased she took my advice and has prepped)
Italian tourist are still flocking to her (EU) city, and cases are increasing there as well.

Puppycorn · 09/03/2020 14:12

Attached a photo of radio 5. So please raise your concerns if you have any. Thank you
