Thread 12!

I can't seem to carry over the clicky links in the OP of the last thread. Can anyone else?

I am still waiting on my masks (ordered early January) so only PPE I have is surgical gloves. I did debate that I should have used them this morning when I brought our bin in. I might use gloves for getting cash out etc soon. We have enough food etc. to not have to go out and mix with people

twins2019 · 09/03/2020 13:01

Still in containment my arse. I know Boris is desperate to salvage the economy to be in a strong position for brexit talks but we can't keep pissing in the wind. For example how the hell is it sensible for Cheltenham to go ahead!?!

itsnotjustflu · 09/03/2020 13:03

I also plan on using card only petrol pumps and wearing gloves....v soon!

MoonlightMistletoe · 09/03/2020 13:03

Still in the containment phase? Wtf are they playing at Angry

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 09/03/2020 13:04

Is it wrong that I’m relieved that my youngest is coming down with a bad cold? She Is 24yrs old, has additional needs, colds make her pretty miserable, but she loves attending her college. I now have a ‘legitimate’ excuse to keep her off, without looking like I’m over reacting. Every cloud...Blush

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 09/03/2020 13:05

Ps, I’ve taken her temperature, so I’m not concerned that it’s the virus.

youkiddingme · 09/03/2020 13:12

I have disposable latex gloves, but for some things I am using acrylic knitted gloves which I then soak in antiseptic for half and hour and then do a quick rinse and spin - otherwise I think they will fall apart if I put them in a full wash every time I go out.
I was thinking I would wipe shopping over with dettol wipes as I put away. I always wash hands before and after food prep and after cleaning so if something slipped through I don't think it would be long between handling it and hand washing.
I'm just going to avoid buying stuff I don't think we need I think.
Hope that's all reasonably sensible.

youkiddingme · 09/03/2020 13:18

Oh and thank you for all the answers. Soap and bottle of water are now in the front hallway.

bellinisurge · 09/03/2020 13:21

Ho hum. Just been advised that two people in the office are being tested following symptom presentation. Guess we'll all have to work from home.

Posharmchairs · 09/03/2020 13:23

Haven’t managed to get everything on my current list yet so that will be an afternoon job as small still needs a nap.
I have just emptied out the dehydration machine of 6 bell peppers which now fit in a cereal bowl.
Going to do the same with mango and kiwi and sell it to small as “sweeties”. As they’re going overripe anyway.

Dry peppers and mushrooms will make excellent stock when re-hydrated via a soak in hot water and make our store cupboard sauces much nicer.

On a more serious note, I feel like here and my dh are the only platforms I can speak freely without people thinking I’m mad.

I feel like the poo pooing attitude is going to make a hard situation potentially catastrophic.

Vaughan Gething, Welsh Assembly Minister for Health and Social Services says that the advice remains the same for Wales as that coming from the central govt at this time, but that 'we don't want to wait until there is a significant number of cases before we act'. More details on the Welsh Govts plans, including shutting schools at a later stage, are expected later this week.

Must admit I'm disappointed, I was hoping they would take a stronger stance than good old BJ. They may well do yet, I guess.

@Posharmchairs they are going to have to do what they've done in Italy and threaten a large fine / possible imprisonment because all the 'it's only flu' folks are not going to behave

bellinisurge · 09/03/2020 13:30

@Posharmchairs , if the fruit, especially the kiwi seems too mushy, whizz it up with a bit of stewed apple to dehydrate as fruit leather. Dd loves fruit leathers so much I had to hide them from her.

itsnotjustflu · 09/03/2020 13:31

Remaining in containment phase FFS www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51796072 Sporting events not going to be cancelled. Schools not going to be closed etc etc

itsnotjustflu · 09/03/2020 13:32

All a load of nothing about nothing :(

rhij86 · 09/03/2020 13:33

@itsnotjustflu I was really hoping they were at least going to give the ok for parents to take kids out of school if they wanted, and more selfishly for me, was hoping they would at least encourage working from home where possible. I'm getting really anxious travelling to work (public transport) now that there are confirmed cases in both the city I live and work in, but it appears work will only be taking guidance from the govt.

Am I to assume these cobra meetings are only going to happen once a week, unless something drastic happens in between?

itsnotjustflu · 09/03/2020 13:33

yet this has been said "A European Union expert said the UK had only a "few days" to implement measures to prevent an outbreak like Italy's, which is the worst outside China with 7,375 confirmed cases and 366 deaths." AND still nothing has happened. I'm guessing Whitty and Valance said no not yet

itsnotjustflu · 09/03/2020 13:35

Me too @rhij86 this is soooo disappointing and very concerning. I'm not sure how often they will be. I guess it depends on what happens

tryingtoprep · 09/03/2020 13:38

Hi All.

I'm finding it impossible to keep up with the threads! I've had to skim through so apologies if I'm repeating things. If only these thread were the only thing moving so fast...

Absolutely agree about the dismissive attitudes towards older people and those of us with underlying conditions. I too didn't like the way they emphasised the poor man had health conditions. He may have had health issues but he was clearly fit to fly. He'd returned from a holiday haven't he?

So many people live mostly normal lives with medical conditions, and the "elderly" aren't all at death's door. Not that 60 is old anyhow.

About laundry. I didn't buy the Dettol liquid. Some of their products specify they kill viruses but that only mentions bacteria. Would biological powder not work? It contains bleach.

AmelieTaylor · 09/03/2020 13:40

@itsnotjustflu

I read that too

WTAF do they think they’re playing at?!

Can they not understand that it’s at the point of money going back’ already!!

People are going to die & it’s going to be their fault!! I’m beyond 🤬🤬🤬

AmelieTaylor · 09/03/2020 13:42

I wish John Campbell was leading this.

Effieray · 09/03/2020 13:44

This is complete conjecture, but I wonder if government are letting Cheltenham festival go ahead in order to make virus spread quicker in population and therefore "get it over with" faster?

Either way, it is due to their lack of honesty and clear communication that I am even thinking this! 🧐

Justmum89 · 09/03/2020 13:46

I'm wondering if they have set figures in mind. Like so many confirmed kris so many fatalities and then things will spring into action? Perhaps that's wishful thinking and even then I suspect the numbers would be way higher than would make most of us here comfortable.

LittleSwede · 09/03/2020 13:48

There is another COBRA on Wednesday.

Justmum89 · 09/03/2020 13:48

Cases don't know why my phone auto corrected that to kris 🤦‍♀️
