Thread 12!

I can't seem to carry over the clicky links in the OP of the last thread. Can anyone else?

@peachgreen I got my sats monitor last month from amazon - it's been great to put my mind at ease for dd2 who is asthmatic.

KundaliniRising · 09/03/2020 11:54

@Ipdipdo, ingesting colloidal silver is not a good idea, it can cause Argyria, a grey blue discolouration of the skin, it is as far as i know not reversable.

rhij86 · 09/03/2020 11:54

@twins2019 yes I think this week is where it ramps up big time. Hopefully they will make some sensible decisions soon regarding schools, flights etc!

FuckThisWind · 09/03/2020 11:55

Which 02 says monitor did you get @peachgreen mine is still sitting in my basket. Has good reviews and is £17.99

peachgreen · 09/03/2020 11:58

Same one I think @fuckthiswind - the rose gold one? I didn't choose it for the colour, I should add! It was just a good combo of cheap and lots of good reviews!

peachgreen · 09/03/2020 11:59

Will let you know how it is when it arrives.

QueSera · 09/03/2020 12:00

I cannot Believe they are allowing flights back from Italy still and no quarantine on return...

It is truly unbelievable. The govt say we are in a "containment" phase, but I see very little attempt from them to do any containing. Not even some really simple and obvious actions, such as stopping flights from infected areas. It seems more like we are in the "spreading" phase.
Let's see what the Cobra meeting will bring....

NatoPMT · 09/03/2020 12:01

That .gov area doc says no cases in my borough, but I’ve just seen a letter dated 4 days ago from a local primary school confirming a case in a pupils family. 4 days is too far behind for it to be any use. And the uk is so well connected, and London residents movements too extensive especially for it to To be of any use whatsoever really

Just noticed that co-op bathroom and toilet anti bac wipes have a higher concentration of active ingredient than dettol wipes, plus half the price for more wipes, and not sold out

Went to Waitrose this morning and the shelves are emptying. Made me really anxious as it was full of elderly shoppers - I hate to think how they feel, I really hate to think they are scared and not prepared as they stare at an empty shelf 😭

Going to drop some coop wipes round to my 2 elderly neighbours now

@quesera spreading phase indeed :(

AmelieTaylor · 09/03/2020 12:05

@youkiddingme

Genuine questions aren’t too ‘old hat’ or ‘barking’ 😊.

Listerine, for example, is 10-30% alcohol, it’s far too low it’s mostly water. You can look up the COSHH sheet for almost every product sold in the uk.

Most shops are still getting hand gel in, you just need to be there when the order arrives. Try smaller boots stores they might not be able to tell you if there’s any
In the next order for sure, but they’ll tell you when the next order is due in at least.

You can use alcohol rub, hand rub, you can use things like IPA and mix in a little ALOE Vera - BUT personally I wouldn’t recommend it as it’s highly flammable.

Anything under 60% won’t work

It’s a bit painful, but it’s just a case of keeping on looking & asking.

Don’t spend a fortune buying from some twat on eBay who has pulled it all off the shelves and is now selling 50ml for £20 🙄

I don’t consider your post behaviour OTT,

I have set up a small table by the door. For post I’m opening it, putting envelopes in the recycling then washing my hands.

For parcels I’m doing much the same except I’m either spraying or wiping down the contents before lifting them out,

I’m being very careful with anything coming into the house as CV can live on surfaces for 9 days. I’ve now closed the spare room (prep storage) and I’m not taking anything out of there for 9 days. I have one area clear and new things can go there and after 9 days I’ll move them to the other side. It’s just easier (for me) than washing/wiping every single shopping item.

I have Dettol All-in-one (aerosol type can, but however it’s done now) that’s good for fabric& other stuff. I use that on my (canvas) nag &keys every time I come home and on the sofa in the evening before bed (especially the arms!). As well as on the car seats.

I don’t have a camping stove here (all in storage) but I’m not getting one. I
Personally don’t think power will be a big issue and if it is I’m happy to eat many things cold until it’s fixed🤷🏻‍♀️ I absolutely cannot see our Govt stopping those trades working on things in the street. But if I had my camping stove here, I’d have bought extra gas for it 😊

@OhYouBadBadKitten. Good thought about tying it all in with the budget, I hadn’t thought about it, but I suspect you’re right!

@tinkywinkyshandbag. Yes carrying small bar of hand soap is good if you’ll have access to water. I have thrown a couple of hotel guest soaps into my bag with a flannel - just in a zip loc bag. I don’t expect to use them (as I can’t think of anywhere I’d have access to water but not soap). I’m using my gel in the car, in & out of shops etc.

@just5morepeas - yes I have a roll of heavy duty black bags ‘just in case too’ but again I doubt ‘outside’ services like that will be totally stopped. Though I suspect recycling might be stopped where the sorting is largely done manually 🤢 But general rubbish may well end up being collected far less often 🤮. We have communal bins or I’d be all over bin buddy!

@Puppycorn as far as ‘contact goes’ it IS enough if we keep our own hands clean and DON’T touch our faces or eat etc without washing our hands. Other than being coughed or sneezed at, we have to transfer it from a surface to our eyes/noses/mouths.

Obviously it would be better/easier if everyone was practising good hand hygiene and coughing/sneezing etiquette.

It’s difficult with children as they bloody well touch everything then bring it in the house - which is a good reason to close all schools and keep them home. Little germ carriers!!

FuckThisWind · 09/03/2020 12:05

Haha. Great minds peachgreen I've checked out on mine now too. We have good taste it in sats monitors seems!

Yes, depressingly, and as foreseen we are still in the 'Containment Phase' according to our crap govt. I'm very frustrated.

itsnotjustflu · 09/03/2020 12:10

?? @fuckthiswind has something been announced?

AmelieTaylor · 09/03/2020 12:11

@MotherShip

That is worrying, but they’ve been treating us like dim mushrooms since the beginning. I’m worried about what they’re going to decide is ‘misinformation’

Italy seems to have been so open with information,I wish our GOVT would be. They create panic going about it like this.

FuckThisWind · 09/03/2020 12:22

BBC Newsroom and now Politics Live were / are interviewing different people who were saying it wasn't time to move into delay phase yet and restrict social gatherings. Thought I sounded like a done deal / bit of a heads up.

FuckThisWind · 09/03/2020 12:23

Experts and officials / political folk that is, not random folk on street.

AmelieTaylor · 09/03/2020 12:24

@bodgeitandscarper

I don’t think the Ariel professional powder has anything in it that will kill viral only bacterial. I don’t have time to check properly though, but the Dettol one does but you need to SOAK it for 15 minutes. I’m only using it for hand towels. I can’t face soaking all the laundry! Some ‘specialists’ have said regular machine washing should remove Covid 19. I presume in the same way that handwashing works by loosening the virus & flushing it away and breaking down its lipid later with the soap 🤷🏻‍♀️

Snugglepumpkin · 09/03/2020 12:25

Silver has antibacterial properties not antiviral.

I keep a scrap of silver about the size of a childs fingernail in my bottle of watered down pva (for sealing plaster surfaces etc...) as it stops it going mouldy.

Puppycorn · 09/03/2020 12:31

@AmelieTaylor This not -touching-face thing is not as easy as it sounds. On average we touch our face atleast 15 times an hour I heard. What I am doing is washing my hands and once dried, applying some handgel

MotherShip · 09/03/2020 12:31

@AmelieTaylor

I hope this thread won't be classed as "misinformation"!

Readyme · 09/03/2020 12:38

For those of us that have PPE when do you plan to start using it?
I'm a bit uncertain I don't want to feature in som e strangers Twitter deeded but I also don't want to be too late.

Readyme · 09/03/2020 12:39

*Twitter feed!

NutellaQuest · 09/03/2020 12:40

Checking in.. yet another fast moving thread. Looking forward to some kitten photos. Grin

AmelieTaylor · 09/03/2020 12:41

@Puppycorn. I know it’s not, I posted about it earlier! If I could cut down to 15x per hour from per bloody minute, I’d be happier. I just don’t think it does to say we are reliant on others behaviour, because I think that just makes people worry more. We can’t make others be hygienic, we CAN learn to modify our own behaviour. As worrying as my own behaviour is, it’s less worrying than relying on jo public

bellinisurge · 09/03/2020 12:53

@Readyme , I have a small amount of PPE that I bought ages ago (prepper thing). I have mulled over whether I would use it. It would only be if we had to set up a sick room in my house. To be honest, even that might be too worrying a set up for my dd 12 so I would probably have the whole house as a sick room (only a little house) and not use the ppe. Doubt I'd use it outside.

AmelieTaylor · 09/03/2020 12:57

@Readyme

I have put a new box of gloves in the car - I always have some for First Aid’ and any other normal issues. I’m not sure if I’ll use them for filling with fuel etc because I’ll probably still want to use hanf gel anyway, so utvseems a bitbpointless.

I’ve been using hand gel for a couple of weeks now.

I won’t be using my mask(s) until the stage where I would only be going out in a dire emergency. Until then I’ll just be keeping my distance from anyone sneezing & coughing. It doesn’t appear to be airborne, so I don’t see a mask as being very helpful for me at the moment.

However, I might feel differently if I was taking public transport in a busy city.
