Sometimes I think you guys are psychic - was just really worried that I had felt the baby but now didn't but think I should now just chill out and be patient. 18 weeks today, had felt what i thought were kicks (a bit like a bubble or a tap below my belly button) on and off but then had started to obsess and that's the problem!

Thanks

Hello girls

It's good to hear we're all growing! Re baby movements, I felt mine for the first time on Friday. It was hubby's birthday which was a nice treat! I dont know if it's relevant, but I had had quite a lot of pain for a few days before whch was clearly stretching, because my stomach then exploded. And the baby started wriggling after that. Revelling in its new space clearly!

I definitely wouldnt worry for those who havent felt it yet. I have heard from lots of people who havent felt anything until way after their anomoly scan at 20 weeks. In case it helps with diagnosing strange feelings, I would say mine feels like strong butterflies like the kind you get when you're nervous, but more firm if that makes sense. And they are lower down than usual. I usually feel it on one side rather than in the middle of my tummy. And it defintely works if you've had some food. I always feel it after lunch now. And yesterday afternoon, about 20 minutes after I had a glass of Ribena, the little thing went crazy! Clearly keen on sugar.

Sending big movement vibes to everyone. Although, as my friend who had twins last year pointed out, we won't be so keen to feel it when we get woken up coughing in the middle of the night by being kicked in the lung.

KFW · 19/05/2010 12:26

PS babybunting my mum (a radiologist) bought me an angelsounds doppler thing cos i was worried following 3 m/c and my MW didnt bother listening at 16 wk appointment. I have only used it once, but my mum gave me a tip and I eventually found the heartbeat very low down. Basically it was almost on my pubic bone which is weird because it seems to be below the bump. Make sure you use gel. Hope that helps.

sorry to have taken up more than my fair share of space with a jumbo post and then a second one!!!!

Hevster · 19/05/2010 13:10

Happy Birthday Jacks hope you are having a good day. I didn't feel movement with DD till 24 weeks, people were always asking me if i could feel the baby moving to the point when i ended up just smiling at them instead of answering the question.
Still signed off work at the moment so entertaining myself researching reuseable nappies (we didn't use them with DD)!
Hope you are all having a good day

Daynee · 19/05/2010 16:46

Hi ladies! Glad to hear everyone is still doing well.
KFW - Congrats on the movement
Mamjo - I'm in the same boat as you...I'm nearly 20 weeks and I don't believe I've felt those butterflies yet...or maybe I did and just thought it was gas. I guess it should be happening soon for us
Jacks - Happy Birthday!!!
Dilly - I like the idea of the recycled baby shower but I think this being my first baby, I'd like a set of new things, plus my mom insists on buying like everything!

DillyDora · 19/05/2010 17:04

Hi Daynee I'm beginning to wonder if all the movements I felt were in fact gas!!!

Lucky you about yr Mum! I think family will want to buy some stuff for us, we shall see. As far as clothes go they just grow out of them so fast! We'll see....

Off I go, have a lovely evening all!
xx

MummyBeth · 19/05/2010 17:45

Hi ladies - once again I've gone AWOL for a while.

Such stressful times some of you are having re promotions, redundacy and general pregnancy anxiety! Is it any wonder women are good at multi-tasking!

Hope this little post finds you well - I'm totally exhausted today - was in Sweden at the weekend and flight home was cancelled - the next available flight was Friday so DH and I decided to fly to London and drive back to Glasgow over night - made it back just in time for my swine flu vac. Arm is still a it sore.

Lots of movement being felt just now - I think the sprogglet had hic-cups this morning and even DH could feel the little jumps.

Going to Edinburgh to have dinner and stay in a beautiful hotel courtesy of my Mummy and Daddy - can't wait!

MummyBeth · 19/05/2010 17:49

Oh and a funny story - at the airport I set the beeper off - happens every time even with 0 jewellry!! Anyway while I was being frisked the lady said "aww a wee bump" (I was in Scotland!!) and then asked how far along I was - when I said 4 months she said "Ohhh so a big bump - is it twins!!!"

Mortification central!!!

Also she's not the first to comment on me being 'big' for my stage - I'm thinking that it's just because I was previously sooo tiny and my frame hasn't changed much just mahoosive boobs and a sticky out tum - which is now protruding further on my boobs - FAB!!!

babybunting2010 · 19/05/2010 17:58

Hevster- Take a look at clothnappytree.com it's a website that my sister runs all about reusables and all the Mums on there have tried and tested them all.

Mummybeth, Had someone today at Sainsbury's say not long now! Was devestated! But people at work reckon it's just what people say as a natural reaction to a bump!

Hevster · 19/05/2010 18:45

MummyB and BabyB people are just so rude, I hope you gave them a Paddington Stare!, MummyB hope you have a fab time in Edinburgh - only been there once but it was a good night!
Will look at the website for nappies, also for anyone interested you can claim some money back on reuseables from a lot of councils, Wiltshire give you £30 back if you spend £60 or more!

babybunting2010 · 20/05/2010 08:51

How did you find out about it Hevster, i've been trying to see if I get anything from them!

babybunting2010 · 20/05/2010 08:51

Also I seem to be feeling like I'm getting Morning Sickness again at the moment, not actually being sick, but feeling it... any ideas??? x

Jacksmybaby · 20/05/2010 10:09

babyb and MummyB, at "not long now" and "is it twins"!! I do think though, that people don't have a clue what is the "polite" thing to say to pg women so whatever they say almost always comes out sounding offensive even though they don't meant it that way! It never occurred to me that it could upset someone to comment on how small their bump was, until a friend of mine got really upset over it as there were concerns over her baby's growth.

Re MS returning, mine has stayed all the way through (so far) both times now - but I do know lots of people who have had it earlier on and then it has returned later after easing off for a while.

Hope you had a lovely time in Edinburgh MB.

Hevster · 20/05/2010 10:20

BabyB initially found this website which links through to lots of councils own websites www.greenjellyshop.co.uk/council-incentive-schemes/info_17.html

DillyDora · 20/05/2010 10:54

babyb I'm sicky again, 18 weeks now and been feeling rough the last couple of days - what's that about!?

Re nappies - went to my council's website and typed in nappies I think - £50 voucher - very nice!

I keep getting the 'Where is your bump?' 'Are you really pregnant?' comments (usually from people who haven't had kids) and it's awful, as if I didn't worry enough!!!!!!! I do think people are being thoughtless rather than mean whatever they say though, it's like they are compelled to comment but don't really know what to say (and why should they) so they say the wrong thing!

MummyB hope your special night was lush - sounds brilliant!

xx

DillyDora · 20/05/2010 12:00

Essential pregnancy health information - an almond croissant and a cup of Roibosch tea seems to help with the feeling sick. Marking systematic reviews does not help though, I can confirm this now...

Hevster · 20/05/2010 12:05

DillyD excellent research thanks, will now have to depart for Sainsburys and purchase said croissant!

RooBear · 20/05/2010 12:27

afternoon all, I've been feeling really uncomfortable last few days, like a constant dull ache, as I've not had any movement do you think this is my body stretching to get ready for it? or should I get it checked out?

Hevster · 20/05/2010 12:32

RooBear would guess it's your belly stretching, my bump has been aching too for the last 2 days but I have been heaving my toddler about so might be that for me. If you are at all worried then I would phone the midwife and ask. Always better to put your mind at rest rather than worry unnecessarily, I also always remind myself that I won't be the first to ask a daft question or the most neurotic person she has had on the phone.

babybunting2010 · 20/05/2010 12:37

Hi roobear Think it's normal, have been getting similar thing on and off for a couple of days now, especially if I stand up too quickly or move too sharply! But it you are worried, give your midwife a shout.

Bebo1980 · 20/05/2010 14:45

Hello everyone, I'm a bit of a late joiner but have a due date of 29th October so am just squeezing into your group. This is my 1st so was really happy to be told that there are other people out there going through the same stuff and I'm not a complete alien!! Seem to have had a growth spurt in the last week (I'm 17 weeks tomorrow)and I feel like I've now got a lovely bump I can rest my arms on rather than a fat tummy! I also seem to be crying at the drop of a hat at the mo! Anyway now you know all about me I hope I can keep up wih all the exciting discussions..I can't wait to be a Mummy!!!

PatsyIsPreggers · 20/05/2010 15:44

welcome aboard Bebo

My tummy's just felt really tight for the past few days. I wondered if that was it's way of stretching, or just telling me that I'm eating far too much. Hungry again!

JazzieJeff · 20/05/2010 15:58

Oh thanks for mentioning the stretching thing, really put my mind at ease; mine's been kind of achey for a couple of days now. Almost like you're really bloated you know? Dropped my car keys on the floor in Tesco yesterday and when I got up from grabbing them, that felt quite hurty.
However, think I might've hurt small last night because I woke up having rolled onto my tummy in my sleep. I really didn't mean to and I'm quite bloated and achey this morning...
Still got what looks like a bit of a fat tummy when I'm in my normal clothes, but I work for the Navy so they've dished out my maternity uniform; huge black trousers with a big stretchy belly band and a big tent-like white shirt. Anyone would look pregnant in it, and to top it off I've got a massive cardigan in itchy Navy blue wool that's so huge if I hang it off the back of my chair, it drags on the floor. As an added bonus, I got the gift of a calf length short sleeved blue polyester dress to wear in the summer with buttons from the neck right down to the bottom of it. I have to wear normal flat black lace ups with it. I think I'll stick with the trousers, you know?
Welcome to Bebo1980 by the way, so jealous of your actual bump when mine just looks like a food baby! xx

Hevster · 20/05/2010 16:52

Welcome Bebo nice to have another person on the thread.

JazzieJeff uniform, well i spose it saves you buying maternity clothes for work!

am a little jealous of all you hungry people, I still have no desire for food which is just not like me!

Jacksmybaby · 20/05/2010 21:51

Evening all, welcome Bebo.

All the stretching type pains sound very normal but remember that's what MWs are there for if you are ever worried.

Cute/heartwarming child-related story for the evening: at bedtime this eve DS was asking about being married (we've been to a couple of family weddings recently) and I was explaining about DH and I being married because we love each other, etc. DS asked "and you love me too, mummy, don't you?" so I said of course, and he said "can WE be married?"!! Awww...
