not sure if this is the right place for this but I just wondered

  1. How long did you take to get pregant?
  2. Did you do anything different if you were trying for a while?
  3. What were your first signs?

I am 32; size 16, have regular periods, 31 day cycles. I came off the pill 10 months ago and ttc. On 11th month.

Just looking for a bit of hope.

  1. 1st was unplanned so n/a, second took 2 months, third took 3 months but was MC, fourth took 5 months.
  2. yes, started getting more methodical and calculated timings and got more obsessive crazy looking for signs every month!
  3. varied each time
tumbletumble · 22/12/2014 17:47

I was 30 when I started TTC (stopped using condoms). Similar size to you. Got pregnant with DC1 on the third month of trying. DC2 and DC3 both first month of trying.

Cherryblossom200 · 22/12/2014 18:12

I fell pregnant in the first month, was a bit of a surprise as I was 38 (just turned 39) we were not really trying so perhaps that's why it happened as no pressure.

First sign, I just felt odd. Hard to explain but I didn't feel normal and it happened pretty quickly. I felt out of sorts, a bit hormonal just weird. I also felt implantation pains, at the time I wasn't sure what it was.

Fattyfattyyumyum · 22/12/2014 18:33

First month with both. Dtd once or twice mid cycle. very lucky.

Fattyfattyyumyum · 22/12/2014 18:34

perhaps relevant that we don't really drink alcohol , exercise regularly and are healthy weights

I have always got pregnant immediately (four times - two pgs, two very early losses) but I am at that age now (mid-30s) where lots of my friends are starting a family and my impression is that the 'average' actually conceals two groups: people who get pregnant very quickly, within a month or two, and most other people, who are more in the 6-18 month bracket. It must be frustrating for you, but it sounds pretty normal.

Also lots of people I knew who'd been on the pill for a while and charted their cycles as they came off it found that they didn't ovulate either at all or regularly for the first few months, so you might have been 'trying' for 10 months but only actually had a chance for the last few.

One thing I have noticed is that couples seem to be more likely to get pregnant very quickly if they haven't been together that long. But maybe that's just because new couples are having more sex?!

If you have 31 day cycles you might be ovulating a bit later than the average, more like day 17-20 than 14. But regular sex in the run-up to ovulation is more important than catching the day itself, because the sperm can hang around for a while. There's a good book called 'Taking Charge of Your Fertility' which explains all this if you are interested in being a bit more proactive (I used it for ages to avoid getting pregnant! But it explains the opposite as well . . . )

  1. First cycle, very lucky. I have never used artificial contraception and I think it help
  2. Bleeding gums, exhaustion
Findingthisdifficult1234 · 22/12/2014 19:58

Concieved on second cycle when started using clearblue ovulation smiley sticks and I also brought the clearblue fertility monitor too!
Had been trying since the beginning of the year before that, and concieved in October. Good luck OP x

Findingthisdifficult1234 · 22/12/2014 20:00

Oh and didn't have any 'first signs' I was pregnant. I tested 4 days before period was due and got a positive. Tests were negative the day before this.

sianihedgehog · 22/12/2014 21:51
  1. Literally on the first shag after coming off the pill the first time (a total shock, as being 37 I expected it to take a while!), but then I miscarried. We started trying again immediately after it was safe to, and it's taken two months for me to get pregnant again, however I've had complications again so not sure this one will last either. I rather wish we were having trouble conceiving rather than this. :/
  2. Never had the chance to worry about it. I think we're just both very sensitive to my cycle, though and tend to naturally hit exactly the right time. Both times we've only had sex one or two times during the month i conceived.
  3. My boobs looked awesome, my nipples and genitals changed to a darker colour, and I had a positive pregnancy test. And no period, although I have had spotting.
Nocturne123 · 22/12/2014 21:54

1st cycle for dd and 3rd cycle for ds . First signs were twinges in my uterus and was a lot more thirsty than usual.

Good luck!!

babynelly2010 · 23/12/2014 11:38

1st time 3 months not trying really but not preventing nothing different
2nd time on first try but MC, did go on holiday that was the only different thing I did.
3rd took about 5-6 months after MC this time I did acupuncture and stopped drinking alcohol and caffein.

Kungpowkitten76 · 23/12/2014 11:57

I am 38. The first time it took 3 weeks, but we miscarried at week 5.
The second time we waited for a period as advised, and I got pregnant straight after my period. I am now 13 weeks.
The only thing we did was I started taking Pregnacare conception tablets when we started trying.
First sign was nausea and sore breasts.

Good luck xx

coastergirl · 23/12/2014 14:16

Wasn't actually trying. We were thinking about maybe trying, and DTD once unprotected, at a point in my cycle when it really should have been impossible. Both pretty unhealthy too, tbh. Overweight, me drinking too much, very stressed.

Only sign really was late period. I had sore boobs but I often get them before my period anyway.

RudyTuesday · 24/12/2014 05:14

Took us 2 years. What finally helped was getting an ovulation monitor. Turned out I ovulated right after period where I'd not usually be up for dtd. Fell pregnant first month of using monitor.

RudyTuesday · 24/12/2014 05:15

Oh and I was 37 and first signs were feeling dizzy and sick

Sonics · 24/12/2014 05:21

It's took us 3.5 years with 1 mc about 18 months in. It was a long and hard journey but we got there (naturally) in the end. Keep the faith and be there for each other. Don't put your life on hold either as it can totally take over everything.

Hope it happens for you soon

Sonics · 24/12/2014 05:23

Oh and I found out I was pg 3 weeks after starting a new job! They've been great with me though - don't worry about work it'll happen when it happens and everything else will just have to fit around it

I think using pre-seed might have helped us to finally conceive

Salene · 24/12/2014 05:50

Age 34 , OH 37 and was a heavy smoker

We normall used condoms, last New Years eve we where drunk and forgot to

3.5 weeks later my period was late and bam you guessed it

Preggers.

So for us the one and only time we have not used contraception

It was a shocker to say the least,

But now I'm lay in bed next to my 3 month old little boy I'm so glad it happened, he is adorable

blacktreaclecat · 24/12/2014 06:01

First pg- 3 months, mc 7 weeks
Second pg - a further 12 months, lap and dye plus clomid. Had to terminate due to trisomy 21
Third pg- 6 months later, array cgh ICSI. Perfect little boy now 2.6
It can take a while and a lot if heartache but he was worth the wait and every tear I shed (and £ we spent!)

kaybug · 28/12/2014 13:06

It took us 18 months. It was heartbreaking every month finding out we had been unsuccessful. I went to the doctors after a year only to be told that because I am young (26) we had to try for a year and a half before we could have any tests or support. We were devostated. I was then booked for minor surgery under a general anaesthetic for an unrelated issue and told to stop trying until after as I couldn't have the op if pregnant. I laughed at the time as it seemed like it would never happen anyway! We stopped trying but didn't use protection so that I could have my op, it was the one month I was adamant I could not be pregnant and didn't rush out to get a test the second I was late. A week later and still no period I took a test thinking it would be negative like every test before that (I had a glass of wine ready for with my tea downstairs!) and through some miracle I was pregnant! Op has been postponed for 9 months and I couldn't drink the wine but who cares! So worth it! I hated everyone who said itl happen when you stop trying but I hate to say they were right! I'm not 16+3 and couldn't be more excited!
sorry it was a long post but I love reading other people's stories and thought I would share mine too Smile

kaybug · 28/12/2014 13:07

now not "not" lol

persepolis123 · 28/12/2014 13:25

With DS it took 11 months. Pregnancy 2 we conceived first month of trying but miscarried at 5.5 weeks. Pregnancy 3 was again first month of trying, I hadn't even had a period after the miscarriage. I'm now 29 weeks.

With DS we went in blind not really knowing much about when I ovulated. Before my second and third pregnancies I gave myself a good break from taking contraception beforehand and really got to know my body and cycle before ttc. With this pregnancy I also used ovulation sticks.

Good luck OP.

dietcokeisgreat · 28/12/2014 20:55

Ds1= 2 cycles ( regular cycles, size 8-10 , age 27 both of us)
This pregnancy = 7 cycles ( 25 day cycles, size 8-10, age 31 both of us)
