not sure if this is the right place for this but I just wondered

  1. How long did you take to get pregant?
  2. Did you do anything different if you were trying for a while?
  3. What were your first signs?

I am 32; size 16, have regular periods, 31 day cycles. I came off the pill 10 months ago and ttc. On 11th month.

Just looking for a bit of hope.

lucybarnes it is basically chemically a pregnancy, as the hormone is produced (can't remember the name) but then you have a very early micarriage; essentially your period washes away a faulty egg, badly implanted egg or just because your body is not up for it or whatever. If your period is late, and you get a BFP and then you get your period, it is then medically a miscarriage. If your period is on time, it is medically not a miscarriage, it is a chemical pregnancy.

It took about 9 months for the first baby and about 13 months for the 2nd. i got to the point with the second where I thought I was not going to get pregnant ever.

With the 2nd, I went to GP and had ultrasound and fertility investigations. They found I had polycystic ovaries, but apparently lots of women have this and it doesn't affect fertility.

I did start to get to know my cycle and used ovulation sticks to tell when in the month was the best time. (you can a bundle of them cheap from Amazon, just as effective as shop ones). Also i had acupuncture at the London Acupuncture Clinic in Harley Street which is very reasonable. I don't know eher you are, but, anyway 3 months after starting that I conceived.

Pregnancy 1: got pregnant first month trying (aged 27)
Preg 2: third month of trying (aged 30)
Preg 3: second month of trying (aged 31)
Preg 4: accidental! (aged 36)

I know many people for whom it has take a lot longer, though. A year TTC seems to be very normal.

First signs were extreme tiredness, nausea, things tasting and/or smelling funny', lots of saliva in my mouth all the time. But very similar to PMT also, confusingly!

Oh dear zombie weirdo thread alert!

WorryWurta · 22/12/2014 13:14

3 years. Tried ivf & iui, no joy. Didn't drink alcohol/caffeine whole time, tried EVERY fertility diet, monitored ovulation etc etc. Not a sausage bar one ectopic. Then got a new (less stressful) job, started back on alcohol and caffeine, sex when I wanted not scheduled and it happened. Ridiculous.

DC1 - 1 year, PCOS aged 20, was a smoker (before pregnancy) size 12 and poor diet

DC2 - 4 years, PCOS age 25, non-smoker this time, poor diet, size 14

DC3 - 3 months, PCOS symptoms massively reduced, scan showed all ovaries on left side have gone (some on the right still) regular gym goer, better diet, non-smoker and new parter, this time 33 years old. Size 10-12

Could have been the new partner, could have been the condition of my body. I think the fact I was healthier, less stressed and exercised more certainly had a positive effect on my PCOS.

youllshootyoureyeout · 22/12/2014 14:04

9 months with first and 1 month with second. Different fathers though, so that may have been a factor.

youllshootyoureyeout · 22/12/2014 14:11

Should add was 29 1st time round, 36 with 2nd. I don't drink or smoke, although my diet wasn't brilliant and I was (am) slightly overweight, but pretty healthy.

LIG1979 · 22/12/2014 14:50

with dd - 11 months but 2 mcs and pcos diagnosis in that time. (31/32)
This pregnancy 7 months currently 23 weeks (34/35)

LIG1979 · 22/12/2014 14:54

What I did differently on the sucessful times was
a) start fertility testing
b) go on holiday (Although did other holidays and didn't fall pg.)
c) decide it wasn't going to happen naturally and drank lots of alcohol etc.

early signs - with dd - sore boobs 3 days before bfp. With this one water tasted funny about 3 days before bfp. (Did test with these symptoms but took a while to get pg.)

good luck!

Enidblytonrules · 22/12/2014 15:04

2 days!!

hlc123 · 22/12/2014 15:11
  1. How long did you take to get pregnant? 6 months with our first (I was 23), 2 years with our second (I was 28) and 3 months with our third (I am 31)
  2. Did you do anything different if you were trying for a while? Nothing different
  3. What were your first signs? With my first and third - Sore boobs, weird stomach cramps, went off coke and red meat, taste of butter in my mouth. No symptoms with second child
Kannet · 22/12/2014 15:12

6 YEARS

Just got my bfp last week

BigCatFace · 22/12/2014 15:41

7 months, not trying or preventing. Completely didn't expect it to happen (had been told I have PCOS- I seemingly don't, just cysts) and did nothing differently, overweight, smoked and drank quite lightly and was in a serious fire 1 week before conception.

BigCatFace · 22/12/2014 15:42

To add, first signs were sore boobs. I knew I was pregnant by 4 weeks.

Littledragon13 · 22/12/2014 16:00

5 months for me, my periods weren't too regular and I have endometriosis so really was expecting it to be a long old slog.

We also weren't having sex too much as we had been working ourselves to the bone and it was all down to a rare morning quickie before work!

Littledragon13 · 22/12/2014 16:01

First signs were sore boobs and feeling more irritable than normal

Nona11 · 22/12/2014 17:35

It me and my dh 13 months. No idea if this made any difference but the last two months before finding out I was pregnant I had recently swapped to a vegan diet.
I started eating a lit healthier, took more intrest in if I was get complete nutrients and discovered I was a little lactose intolerant.
It could have just been coincidence though.
My first signs were extremely sensitive breasts tmi but my nipples wouldn't go down.

StillinShockAhhhhhhh · 22/12/2014 17:36

Took me 1 year after coming off of the implanon implant x didn't do anything different than not really trying if that makes sense x first few months we constantly monitored ovulation etc but stopped about two months before conceiving x
