not sure if this is the right place for this but I just wondered

  1. How long did you take to get pregant?
  2. Did you do anything different if you were trying for a while?
  3. What were your first signs?

I am 32; size 16, have regular periods, 31 day cycles. I came off the pill 10 months ago and ttc. On 11th month.

Just looking for a bit of hope.

Mine was a happy accident, but came off the pill in June as it wasn't suiting me. Used condoms instead, had two 33 days cycles, and then fell pregnant on holiday, calculations point to ovulating on day 17 of my cycle, am 33 years old and just under 19 weeks now

I found that when I looked back over my cycles over the course of a year in my diary they were shorter and more irregular than I thought. I recommend the ovulation sticks too - then there's no guessing. Worked first month for me.

They say that you should act pregnant as soon as you start ttc, so no smoking, minimal drinking, eat healthily and start taking prenatal vitamins. Good luck :)

amandalk91 · 25/01/2015 13:38

It only took me one month but I'm 23,i don't know if that'd affect how easy it is. I just made sure we had sex during ovulation a couple of weeks after my last period. The first sign for me was definitely sore boobs x

Hi,

  1. How long did you take to get pregnant?
We were shocked and surprised that we fell pregnant after 1 month of trying, think my other half was looking forward to a few months of fun with trying.

  2. Did you do anything different if you were trying for a while?
I tracked my ovulation via Ovia for around 2 months prior and really just had sex on those days around ovulation. I also got loads of cheap ovulation strips so I knew when I was ovulating, made sure we had sex then and luckily it happened. Also, started to use a lube called Conceive plus which helps sperm break through to where they need to be.

  3. What were your first signs?
It felt like forever waiting to be able to take the test and in that time I was major symptom checking. I felt pretty deflated as I was still having bad period like cramps, however they were a little earlier than normal e.g. 1 week before I was due. My boobs did feel a little bit more tender and my nipples began getting a bit darker.

Hope this helps and fingers crossed for you. I'm only 9 weeks along and suffering with horrendous morning sickness, but thinking back to the worry I felt when I thought it might takes months to conceive, reminds me how lucky I am, and to stop with my moaning so much.
All the best and good luck!
Sam x

Last year we had actually made the decision to stop trying for a while as my dh had been told that he may not have a job in February and it would be silly to start a family when we didn't know what was going to happen! What we didn't realise was that we had actually conceived 4 weeks previously on our weddingmoon and I'm due on Valentines Day! (Also pleased to report that dh's job is safe!)

Dd1 was a contraception fail when I was 26...! I am pregnant with dc2 now- I came off the pill at the end of May and fell pregnant at the end of August so 3 months for my body to get back into the swing of things and then fall. I miscarried this pregnancy and then fell pregnant immediately after miscareiage age 28. Been lucky

reb2g08 · 30/03/2015 06:35

Took me two months age 25.
First baby. Was desperate for it to be quick so did loads of things- used ovulation test kits to time BD, BD every day in the month, used conceive plus fertility lubricant, took pregnacare conception tablets (his and hers ones) and waited 20 mins after BD before going to toilet and laying with hips raised! Worked doing that in the second month! Didn't do any of it first month not sure if that's a coincidence.

reb2g08 · 30/03/2015 06:36

Forgot to say- first signs were I was really sweaty for a day before I missed my period!

1- it took us just over 6 months, in that time I skipped two periods. Was convinced I didn't ovulate or was going into early menopause as I'm 25.

2- I used soy isoflavones, temping and opks. I got so fed up of AF appearing and ttc was damaging my mental health, so it was our last month trying.

3- my first signs were mega boobs, that ballooned and were so painful every step I took hurt. I also had shed loads of creamy cm. A tiny bit of spotting on 7dpo, and a triphastic rise on my chart.

Good luck in TTC, I really hope you get there soon as its so frustrating. U

Gillian1980 · 20/05/2015 07:51

It took us 3 months from coming off the pill. I had one period / withdrawal bleed and then nothing after that.

I didn't really know when I might be ovulating as I didn't have a regular cycle - on pill for 17 years with maybe 2-3 periods in that time. We dtd every other day unless we were tired.

I was 34, size 22 and expected it to take much much longer.

There is always hope! But try not to compare yourself to others as every woman's body is different.

Gillian1980 · 20/05/2015 07:52

Oh, also, my friend took 7 years to conceive her first then fell pregnant while breast feeding when dc1 was only 6 months! A happy surprise!

MissMartin1992 · 20/05/2015 07:59

Took me 3 cycles aged 22.. im only 4week at the moment Smile

Wishful80smontage · 20/05/2015 08:04

First time with dd1 straight away
This time dc2 - it was after a few months when I actually did check when I was ovulating.
Good luck OP

scarednoob · 20/05/2015 08:33

First try for us, which I think was a disappointment to the OH who had been looking forward to a few months of condom free sex!! I was delighted but shocked as I am 37 and overweight, so thought it would take months - all the plans to hit the gym and lose the Christmas weight fell away...!

Viasabat · 20/05/2015 08:38

It took us 7 years. We had IVF in the end.

chasingtherainbow · 20/05/2015 09:26

Cycle 1 with dd .

16 cycles with failed pregnancy.

Cycle 1 post ectopic now 14w xxx

Gillian1980 · 20/05/2015 20:18

Oh, just realised it's a zombie thread... 5 years old!

rhnireland · 20/05/2015 20:49
  1. How long did you take to get pregant?
We had tried on and off for a year and then really tried for another year.

  2. Did you do anything different if you were trying for a while?

Yup I got diagnosed with PCOS after the first year of trying and got diagnosed with a borderline underactive thyroid 5 weeks before conceiving. I was on medication for both and also was dieting (My BMI was very high not helped by the PCOS and Thyroid issues)

  1. What were your first signs? I felt like I had a cold coming on, then I went off chocolate. My DH knew something had changed when I refused chocolate and made me take a test. For a very very planned pregnancy it was a huge surprise.

And just to give you a little hope. I'd an appointment made with my gynae to start fertility treatments in early January. I used that appointment to get my pregnancy confirmed instead. Because the 30 odd pregnancy tests weren't enough to convince me!

If I were to change anything it would be to push for treatment for the thyroid earlier. I'd been told it was borderline and not to worry about it but looking back I could have saved myself a lot of upset if I'd gotten it dealt with sooner

neomamma · 21/05/2015 07:21

Hi,

we took 17 or 18 cycles which included two chemical pregnancies and another loss at 5 weeks which, according to the bHCG levels taken at the time, never really got out of first gear. the first loss was our 2nd month of trying and then i had 8 or 9 cycles with no luck at all despite trying acupuncture and OPKs and being able to pinpoint ovulation. now 17.5 weeks with first baby aged 31.5.

didn't do anything differently so it's hard as it feels so random.

first symptom was a positive test then no period.

my advice is get pushy with your gp sooner rather than later as i had to be pretty assertive to be referred to get what i suspected might be a luteal phase issue checked. in the emd the consultant gynae prescribed me progesterone pessaries to try to boost implantation but i never used them as i got a positive test 2 days after the appointment.

good luck!

neomamma · 21/05/2015 07:24

sorry should have added i had given up alcohol for the 18 months of trying, hadn't been on the pill since i was 19, and had been temp charting religiously the whole time we were trying and for several months before so i was very aware of my cycle. hence why i was concerned about the length of my luteal phase.

whereswaldo · 21/05/2015 07:30

Got pregnant on the first month. 31 years old and short cycles 23-27 days range and had been off the pill for 11 months but not ttc. I took ovulation tests and found I was ovulating day 10 so def recommend doing that- also recommend the ovia tracking app as really helped me understand my body.
