Is there a thread for the old birds who are pregnant and over 40?

I'm on a fab thread on the ttc section but am now 7 wks preg .

I know it's early days but I wondered if there was a thread on here for the older pregnant woman who might be experiencing all the same things as me.

God, I hope I'm not tempting fate by coming over from the ttc side!!!!!

Baby girl chickbean born yesterday at 13.55, a week early, 8 days after my 41st birthday.

I was at a Netmums coffee morning and my waters broke (not dramatically, thank goodness - that would have been - just a trickle). Less than 4 hours later DD was born in the birthing pool at the hospital. Great experience - feel very lucky to have had such a problem free labour and birth.

No name yet - we were so sure it would be another boy - still can't get used to hearing "her" and "she".

MrsCrabby · 19/01/2010 20:14

Congratulations Chickbean! What lovely happy news

schipo · 19/01/2010 21:07

Chickbean, yes that's fantastic, congratulations and well done!

What a nice start to this thread too - hope it's just one of many to come.

rainbowdays · 19/01/2010 21:10

Chickbean - congratulations and wonderful to hear of such a great birth of your dd.

ande · 19/01/2010 21:19

Well done Chickbean! Congratulations to you and yours. X

PacificDogwood · 19/01/2010 21:27

Gosh, this thread has made me feel better!!

I am 43, expecting DS4, other boys will be exactly 7, 6 and 2 when this one comes along - all birthdays in the same month .
I am not sure I'll join this thread as I am trying to curtail my MNaddictioning and am on an antenatal thread.

But good luck to you/us all! And congratulations to Chickbean.

nottslass · 20/01/2010 09:56

Congratulations to chickbean - I've got 6 days left to go, but heres hoping for a Delivery just like yours !!!!!

hippychick66 · 20/01/2010 18:25

Just wanted to add my congrats to Chickbean. A daughter - how wonderful. I have 2 DS's and am secretly hoping this one is a girl but of course am more concerned about health etc.

2 sets of twins as well!!!

I have my booking in appointment on friday with the midwife and she will sort out a scan. I'll be over 9 weeks before I get to see some proof. Didn't get an early scan as am very fortunate and no history of MC's etc.

Just want to see the flippin' heatbeat.

We told our sons recently - they are so excited and sworn to secrecy. 6 year old will never keep it in until I'm 12 weeks .

Good luck to Nottslass hope delivery is really easy for you too.

pls can i join?? im 36 and am due 2 have my fourth child on 15th may...i kno im nt quite in my forties yet but feel more at home on this thread than with the younger mums. congratulations everybody!!!! jen. xxx

schipo · 20/01/2010 19:39

Jen6jen, don't suppose anyone minds youngsters hanging around !?

I see you're due in may though and want to point out that on the may antenatal thread, there 48 names on the latest list, and of those 19 of us are 35 or older. The youngest is a sprightly 26. I'm sure that's not reflective of all pregnancies nationally, but don't think you'd have reason to feel out of place. Be warned though, there is much more traffic on that compared to this thread.

Anyway, congrats on your pregnancy. Do you know if its a boy or girl yet?

jen6jen · 20/01/2010 19:43

yes its a little boy...i tend 2 relate 2 ppl who r late thirties early forties beta 4 some reason. maybe its cos my kids make me feel abt 70 on a good day. haha. x

PumaGirl · 20/01/2010 19:50

Congrats chickbean! Well done!

schipo · 20/01/2010 19:53

Jen, I can understand. It's my first (a boy too) and I'm a bit scared at what I'll find at NCT classes next month. Bit worried that DH and I will be old enough to be the parents of most of the other people there

jen6jen · 20/01/2010 19:59

congratulations schipo my first baby feels like 4eva ago now.he shouts at me and locks himself in his bedroom when the girl hes asked out says no. scary!! ha.i think part of the prob is tht i actually work in a nursery with girls who r 17 and 18 and im the same age as some of thier mums!!

hippychick66 · 20/01/2010 21:34

We'll let you in Jen. Although we're all dead jealous of the 3 at the start of your age . Actually shouldn't say all as I can't speak for the others but personally wish I was still a thirty - something.

Am dreading all the mums in the playground at school finding out I'm preg cos they will probably think I'm ancient. I don't want any negative comments to put the dampners on it.

I heard two talking a few months ago and one said, "I would like more kids but I'm over thirty now and not sure that I can start all over again!" They start early around here I guess.

Anyone had any cravings?? I can not stop eating juicy fruit eg. pinapple, mango, melon. I am eating it all the time. Am quite pleased really cos there are a lot less healthy things I could be piggin' out on.

jen6jen · 21/01/2010 08:54

my cravings have been orange lolly ices..not good 4 heartburn really but beta than the cravings 4 bleach and dettol i had with the others. ha. xx

nottslass · 21/01/2010 10:36

hippychick,I haven't had any negative comments re my age (well, not to my face.lol)
One person did say "Has he(meaning OH)got used to the idea yet" assuming this pregnancy was unplanned.

As for cravings,Ice Poles & sniffing shoe polish has been my thing !!! I did have to resist eating the snow,as I was overcome by great urges to grab a handful & "savour the flavor"

bluebell6 · 21/01/2010 11:17

thanks ande

bluebell6 · 21/01/2010 11:28

congratulations chickbean our first graduate! sounds like you had a lovely birth experience too.

All the best to nottslass for an equally speedy delivery.

Wish I was having healthy cravings hippychick... mine are all for bread bread bread and cake at the moment, but you and Jen have inspired me and Im off to buy ice poles and pineapple this afternoon

MrsCrabby · 21/01/2010 13:11

I don't seem to have any cravings just at the moment - the nausea has put me off pretty much everything... none of last pregnancy's sickness calming tricks are working, lemon and ginger tea worked wonders then, but now just makes me feel sicker...

schipo best of luck with the NCT classes we felt similar when we did them before DS, I was 38 at the time, DH a lot more than that... and he was definitely old enough to be their dad. But despite age differences and a fairly disparate group, we're now all firm friends and they are the most fantastic support group I could ever hope to find going through the first few months together really is a bonding experience and it's well worth having that network of advice, or even just a few sympathetic ears. Age is immaterial, it's the experience that brings you together.

nottslass fingers tightly crossed for you and hoping if you get to due date and decide to go for the induction that it's another easy one for you.

Since we had an early scan we have told a few close friends already - and no raised eyebrows as yet... still trying to keep it a secret at work (any top tips for hiding the start of a bump?). I don't suppose there'll be raised eyebrows there since my colleagues don't know how old I am... I try to pretend I'm thirty something like most of the rest of them. Not sure it really works, but I like to think it does.

rainbowdays · 23/01/2010 08:44

Hippy - how did the scan go????

hippychick66 · 23/01/2010 14:08

rainbow it wasn't a scan unfortunately. Just my booking in appointment with midwife. We get a free Nuchal scan in 2 weeks time. Just want to see the flippin' heartheat so I can believe it all!!!

Midwife was really nice, she said her mum had her last baby at 43 so she was totally on my side and very supportive about my age etc.

How is everyone else - all ok???
